freddy333
2 may be the real deal. Hard to tell from the pictures.
By-Tor
I suspect both red dials are fake. #1 definitely is. Come on... that's just laughable. I'm 99% sure #3 is too.
polexpete
Reds are fake white is real... P.
freddy333
Actually, on 2nd look the 2nd dial looks like an NDtrading piece that may have been relumed, which is what threw me the 1st time. So they are all probably fakes, with the 2nd 1 being the least objectionable.
mezzanine
Definitely not bad. All are reps, as far as what I can tell. I should clarify that by saying re-dials... The second one is the best of the re-dials. Still not gen. Check the 'O' in the Rolex and the small horizontal lines on the "E" and "L", those are very precise on the gen. The coronet looks good to me, and the "m" in the subscript is what made me think it was gen on first glance.
freddy333
These & most of the 'repainted' dials sold by NDtrading & other dial vendors are not in fact redials at all. What they are are new aftermarket dials being marketed as 'repainted' to give them some degree of authenticity, which they do not deserve.
Greystash
3 might be fake, but the font and color of SUBMARINER looks great.
Greystash
Sorry sir, but number three is a simple MBW dial - The red Submariner writing is one of the biggest flaws - compare with the real thing and you will see. While I agree the font curves in three aren
alligoat
The back of the second dial is unmarked. My gen from '78 is stamped Beyeler on the back. Lume is somewhat sloppy, so I'd agree that it looks like a redial, or it's an outright fake. I concur with freddy that the NDTrading dials are new. They refer to them as redials in an effort to stay out of hot water with the Rolex guys is my theory.
alligoat
I agree, Rep. I think they are flying under the radar. Don't know if the patent rights have expired or not on the vintage stuff. As a hobby, I love it, but it's not a business I'd ever get into. And moving to Thailand and sippping Daiquiris on the beach w/ TTK would only work for a short vacation as far as I'm concerned.
alligoat
Well, i just ran across dial #2 on ebay. I still don't like it, even if the guy is a member of IWJG. http://cgi.ebay.com/Rare-Vintage-Rolex-Sub...1QQcmdZViewItem item # 190200761300 if the link doesn't work
freddy333
Good find, Alligoat. I still have reservations, but the seller does have a good track record of selling Rolex, so maybe it is gen.
