I'v spent the last 2 days reading the posts here and feel much more confident about starting my new hobby now! I'v started out with a Omega Seamaster GMT (blue) from Andrew for $108. Wanted to start off small and I looked around and found that it was a resonable rep for a very reasonable price...! I'm now looking for more omegas, hopefully 2-3 within the next 2 months...Not really going for another company atm. The one I know I want is the UPO 4th Gen but i'm really blank on a Omeaga dress watch? Any ideas? As far as dress watches go, I quite like the Railmaster on a strap, an its very accurate too 100% agreed. Just to say, welcome, ferrariz! And also, you got what might be considered a dress watch by some (my father wears it to semi-formal occasions). I am going to suggest the Railmaster in SS, because the rep straps in leather are AWFUL. I always ask Andrew to try and change them to SS, or rubber. My understanding (though I haven't tried it yet) is, that you take the crappy strap and salvage the buckle...and transfer the buckle to any of the high quality after market straps out there...or buy OEM. Maybe I was too hasty. Upon closer inspection, the DeVille is the dread 7750 with seconds at six -- these have notorious problems. Add to that the chronos, and that's asking for Tee-rubble. Please do an ample search before deciding on it, Ferrariz. The Swiss ETA Railmaster looks a surer bet. However, the straps are no problem at all. Toady gave you great tips. You're all right there. That date thingie threw me. For the record, the seconds subdial at the 6 o'clock position on the 7750 movement, causes trouble. The IWC Portuguese is a prime example of such a problem -- some members even go to the bother of having the subdial "frozen" (gears removed from the movement, as it works overtime and grinds down). These are all terms you will have to acquaint yourself with, and hitting that Search will be invaluable to you. Just PM in case of need though! Lady V has answered you in her post below...but "Seconds at six" refers to the second hand that continually runs, being located at the 6-o-clock position. A traditional movement may have it at 3-o-clock in a subdial arrangement that has subdials at 3-o-clock, 6-o-clock and 9-o-clock, or at 6, 9, and 12-o-clock with running seconds at 9-o-clock. To move the running seconds from 9-o-clock or 3-o-clock to the 6-o-clock position requires something like 13 gears as the Meister of Movements The Zigmeisterzumba has illustrated. The Chinese rep movements do not properly do this with jeweled gears resulting in an "over-worked" drive train to power that seconds at six, resulting in premature failure due to grinding gears.
