omegaunit Posted May 24, 2008 Report Posted May 24, 2008 I am looking for a decent vintage rollie that requires the least amount of modding. Any suggestions?

perry563 Posted May 24, 2008 Report Posted May 24, 2008 I have both a MBW 1680 and 1665. The 1665 is by far the more substantial and believable rep. As proof to this I wore my 1680 on a business trip a while back and only received a lukewarm response from my watch fanatic co worker. A few weeks later I wore my 1665 and that same co worker could not believe the quality. He threatened to put it on his wrist and not give it back! They are both great watches but the 1665 has more heft and weight while lends to its believability as a rep.
radiohead101 Posted May 24, 2008 Report Posted May 24, 2008 For me the best vintage rollie is a MBW DRSD. Since it graced my wrist I haven't worn my *gen* Tudor Sub. The vintagized MBW DRSD is the most beautiful watch I've ever seen. I just stare at it all day long. The rehaut is so sexy. Sometimes I want to lube up and ..... just kidding.
omegaunit Posted May 24, 2008 Author Report Posted May 24, 2008 Looks like MBW is the way to go. Aside from MBW are there any others? I don't want to spend too much.
FasTTaP Posted May 24, 2008 Report Posted May 24, 2008 So MBK DRSD is the way to go if you want an ultimate vintage rollie, but what are the necessary mods, and who does this in Europe... Since The Zigmeister is 'retired', what are the options ? Is there any way to buy a pre-mod ?
Slartibartfast Posted May 24, 2008 Report Posted May 24, 2008 I am looking for a decent vintage rollie that requires the least amount of modding. Any suggestions? You cannot beat he 5508 from silix. jgpp63 Posted May 25, 2008 Report Posted May 25, 2008 I've just got this vintage 5508 http://www.repgeek.com/showthread.php?t=12740 It's a cheap Sillix Asian that's had the dial and case aged and the lug holes drilled, thanks a lot to Denis in Canada. It now lives on a grey Nato strap
Toadtorrent Posted May 26, 2008 Report Posted May 26, 2008 If you are looking for the most accurate out of the box...that is one thing. If you are looking for the one that COULD be made the most accurate with a lot of mods...that's another thing. For me...I just like this inaccurate vintage 6263...well...because of the acrylic tach ring. I can't seem to find the post where this was discussed (the accuracies/inaccuracies and the love of the basic design anyways). To those who are wondering...the sore points are: Symmetrical chrono pushers (gen has asymmetrical)Printing of the ROLEX and other text is too largeFrozon subdial at 6 (good thing as it makes it more reliable...but bad because it's not as accurate)
