Which Vacheron Constantin is that?

It is a fantasy watch. The real version does not exist. It is sort of a cross between a few Malte and Patrimony watches in the line with the case definitely supposed to be a Malte case, but VC has no dials with an exposed balance. It is most like the Malte Dual Time Regulatuer which there is no rep of:

This is the closest I have found in looks to it but it is terrible of course. Maybe they don't make it anymore?

If you want an accurate VC rep, this is as good as it gets:

These Patrimony watches are not bad either:

But when you get into reps from the big three (Lange, Vacheron, Patek) you are always asking for trouble. The reps just never quite cut it and the accuracy and feel are really marginal at best...

I just mean that the really fine dress watches are hard to rep because even the movement decoration and materials are so fine that there is no way to make an Asian or stock ETA movement to look right. Also, the hand finishing and assembly of those watches is the whole thing. Many of them are very simple and so the luxury is brought out in the fine details. They don't pop without them. So again, reps of these can't help but fall short.

By contrast, the sports watches are more about eye catching design and many of their movements may even be based on ETA movements themselves. There is also less super fine hand beveling, etc. done to the cases, bridges, etc. so reps of these can get blindingly accurate.

Another major factor is materials. All the finest dress watches are never built with steel. So right off the bat a fine dress watch which is small that is supposed to be gold or platinum just feels terribly light, flimsy and cheap in steel. Just letting you know some of the trappings of buying reps of fine dress watches. You are better off sticking to the sports watches IMO.

Do you mean they look nothing like the gen? (just to clarify my lack of english vocabulary

Thanks a bunch, I saw the Patrimony watches at a show yesterday and they are absolutely superb, timeless watches !

As you say though, the value is in the detail on that type of watch, the hands are bent manually for instance, I doubt the reps are like that.

Hi,

New member but into classic watches both gen and sometimes rep. Traded a genuine Vacheron Constantin a year or so ago and also had a friend who had a similar Rep model from Josh?.

The glaring problems apart from the overall finish, weight and fineness of the case and dial was the careless placement of the numeral batons - the rep ones are never straight or indeed the correct profile. The hands on the rep are a flat metal disaster, whereas the genuine ones are superb close up. The differences in real life are immense. Maybe better never to see a genuine one at all - otherwise you would never buy the rep!

Thanks, but...Oops, pulled the trigger yesterday with PAM11, oh well...it's not like I'm going to be able to afford the gen anytime soon anyway! Was it a rep of the Patrimony Contemporaine ? I just noticed the rep had AUTOMATIC written whereas the gen doesn't.

Rather OT here, but I was some nice classic Jaeger-Lecoultre watches today, fairly similar to this VC, a bit cheaper too. I was disappointed in the Patek Calatrava 5127 that I saw for the first time, pretty small and too much gold !
