blade007
Hiya guys, I opened up my SOSF today (curiosity) and realized that its not 2824-2 as i thought (rightly/wrongly). It has a 2836-2 stamp on it and is SILVER. all the pics etc I have seen on this board the movement is golden. is this normal for SOSF? I will try to post pics once i get home.. Cheers
UB7
No need to fret, this is perfectly normal. I think most dealers offer it with the 2824 but angus offers it with the 2836. I think the only little difference is the datefont on the 2836, not sure if it's more/less accurate but i'd like to know as my SOSF has a 2836 aswel Edited September 2, 2008 by UB7
LegendofSpeed
AFAIK, there are no more 2824's in any of the reps.... everything has been moved over to the 2836... The last 3 "2824-powered" reps I have had delivered to me have all been 2836...
blade007
thanks for the quick response guys. that has made me feel so much better. phew.... but why is the movement silver and not golden as seen in some pics by eurotimez? do they come in silver too or is this some new kinda chinese rep? FxrAndy
silver or gold makes no difference in my eyes as long as it keeps good time, i have both sorts too.
LegendofSpeed
I'm trying to remember.... so i can't say with 100% certainty... but i believe silver is actually better... in that it has more stringent QC and is a better offering... and I believe that gold signifies that it has swiss parts, but was assembled in Asia... P4GTR
Yah, I believe the nickel mvmts are swiss surplus mvmts, the brass ones are the ETAs made in china. However this is just what ive put together from a lot of reading on the boards. I just got a 2824-2 two weeks ago in a SMP.
supermanx
I wonder if there are any other differances in the cases, because a 2824 is not a straight swap with 2836 ( I know, tried to put the 2836 in my 2824 sfso). I thought I read they redid the case at the beginning of the year to accomidate the asian and 2836 in 1 case instead of seperate like previously. slickdick
I wonder the same thing, the stem doesn't line up.
Paneraibob
They can not line up at all because they are different in hight 2824-2 11.5''', Dm= 25.6mm, H= 4.8mm 2836-2 11.5''', Dm= 25.6mm, H= 5.05mm So you could be happy with the 2836-2 Cheers
slickdick
So either the movement has the wrong stamp, or the case is indeed different (different crown position).
