Rare GMT "Fat Lady" on Ebay

This is an interesting model. Not many Rolex people know that they briefly produced a GMT II with Submariner clasp and thicker case. These are not yet highly collectible, but I believe they WILL be.

This particular watch isn't in very good condition though. I'm actually surprised how old the dial looks, despite the watch being only from 1983.

Nothing wrong with the watch though, I'm sure it's genuine.

See The Fat Lady here.

How can that dial be so corroded and the movement looks basically fine?

Good question. I have a feeling that this particular watch might have been compromised with water at some point. Dial definitely looks much older than it is. Not normal aging for a watch that "new" (imho).

Another trivia fact: The "fat lady" only came with the "Coke" red/black insert from the factory. AD's changed them by customer request of course.

BT, I posted about this watch back last year in my Mystery Vintage Quiz...

Anyway, what's with the Fat Lady insult? The 16760 with factory red/black bezel is, and should always be known as the 'Sophia' (as in Loren) much more fitting for such a voluptuous beauty.

As for condition, well the 1st series no-dates are still 25 years old and even the best looked after example shows dial aging.

Compare these two, born merely weeks apart....
