Quantum Of Solace, PO's brief appearances

Timepiece

OK, I watched the movie in the theatre and like all of us on RWG automatically looked out for the wrist shots.

Afterwards found the DVD rip on the net and started looking for the scenes where I remembered 007's watch appears more visible.

Unfortunately I have not found any close-up shots yet...

Bond and his PO just before entering the hotel room of a villain:

After killing that villain:

Anyone already got better pics?

No it is not the 45.5MM. According to Omega it is the 42MM in this film, plus you can tell. Daniel is not a big guy nor does he have big wrists just because he is muscular. The smaller watch wears bigger on steel and the larger watch wears smaller on rubber. The large size on steel would look way bigger on him and to me it is very clear that the watch in these photos is a 42MM watch.

He did wear the 45.5MM version on rubber in Casino Royal though...

For comparision, here is my 42MM on my 7.5" wrists. As big as anyone would ever want it I would think. It wears way smaller on rubber though so it is no wonder they used the 45.5MM for that in the last film if they wanted it to really pop. The 42MM on rubber is far more understated...

New Omega Seamaster Limited Edition: Planet Ocean 600m Quantum Of Solace

Sep 23, 2008

An Omega Seamaster watch has become one of the key elements of James Bond's image, along with an Aston Martin car and a Walther PPK pistol.

The November worldwide release of the latest James Bond movie - much-anticipated 'Quantum of Solace' - will be commemorated by the introduction of a new limited edition Omega Seamaster watch.

The new Omega Seamaster Planet Ocean 600m Quantum Of Solace Limited Edition will be available in a limited number of 5,007 pieces. The technical features and design details of the timepiece perfectly match the needs of the most famous spy and strengthen his irresistible charm.

The polished and brushed stainless steel case of the Omega watch measures 45.50 mm in diameter. The case construction incorporates a stainless steel unidirectional bezel with a black aluminum ring, as well as a stainless steel screw-in crown. The helium escape valve is found at 10 o'clock. The curved scratch-resistant sapphire crystal is provided with inside anti-reflective treatment.

James Bond movies' fans will be delighted to see the words 'Quantum of Solace' that are discreetly laser-engraved on the inside of the sapphire crystal.

The screwed-in stainless steel case back of the Omega watch features a '007' emblem stamp engraved with the limited edition number. The timepiece boasts 600-meter water resistance.

One more exquisite design detail worth special attention is the pattern of the black dial - its texture has been inspired by the checkered plastic grip panels of a Walter PPK, James Bond's weapon of choice.

The dial of the Omega watch is completed with polished flat facetted applied Arabic numeral, the brand's name and logo, as well as white Super-LumiNova polished indexes and hands. The central seconds hand improves readability of the dial due to its red tip.

The Omega Seamaster Planet Ocean 600 m Quantum of Solace Limited Edition is equipped with Omega's caliber 2500, a self-winding mechanical movement fitted with the Co-Axial escapement technology. The COSC-certified movement offers 48 hours of the power reserve.

The new Omega Seamaster goes on a brushed and polished stainless steel bracelet fitted with a Diver's clasp. Omega and James Bond collectors will be pleased to see the timepiece presented in a special black Quantum of Solace presentation box.

Well to each his own and that is why we all learn so much from each other here. The watch not only does nothing for me but it also makes me uncomfortable when I look at it. I find the pattern and texture to be very distracting and unnerving. I would even go sa far as to call the dial cheap looking. It actually reminds me of the rubber straps on the Breguet Marine watches. The straps are really high quality actually but that diamond relief moonrock look makes it look cheap in my eyes too for some reason. Come to think of it, there aren't many heavily textured dials that do it for me. I like things a bit more subtle. I'm also never a big fan of printing on crysals or the 3-D effect it has. UN has done that on some new watches and I don't like it there either. Anyway, I can see why people will like this watch though - especially younger guys. It is very "in your face" for sure and is certainly unique and interesting in its own right. I think I'm shaping up more and more to be a bit of a traditionalist I guess and for me, the plain old 42MM PO is perfect. Wouldn't change a thing...

Love Omega's, would never buy a james bond theme watch, they do nothing for me.

Not sure what it is, just hate the idea of having an expensive watch with a movie written across it.

I've never been keen on the commemorative Omegas, simply because Bond would never wear a watch with his serial number on it, so I view them purely as a marketing ploy rather than true "merchandise", but this monstrosity takes that marketing to a new level/low. It wouldn't be so bad if it was the 42mm version, as that at least appears in Quantum of Solace, but this just comes across as a way of shifting a load of 45mm Planet Oceans. I think only the most diehard Omega collecting Bond fans will buy it. I can think of one watch collector I've encountered who will likely buy it, but I don't want to name names as what he buys with his money is his business.

I should point this out. When I firs saw this watch I was confused becasue the dial is checkered like a Wather PPK grip. I didn't understand this because he was still using the P99 in Casino Royale. Oh hell they threw any common sense and continuity out with it anyway. Point being that I was surprised to see that they switched him back to the PPk in the new film. They need to make up their minds.

Yeah, me too. Notwithstanding that I happen to not love the dial on this one. I wouldn't have bought the one with the 007 second hand either for just that reason...

Tried the QOS on at the AD and its even uglier in person. You can't even read the dial printing because of that obnoxious pattern, and the QOS laser etching on the crystal is impossible to read as well. It just looks like a smudge or scratch. Terrible looking watch. Caseback was nice though.

Hard to believe such a thing possible  I guess it just shows what marketing is all about ;)

I don't think there were any close up shots of the watch in Quantum Of Solace.. And I liked it that way. It was a very subtle Omega product placement in the movie.. Everyone knows now that the current Bond wears an Omega Planet Ocean.. Thanks to the Omega poster ads pasted all around the world.. :)
