All of the photos I see on this site and the dealers sites have a bluish tint to them, while the real watches are crystal clear. Is it just poor photography or does the AR definately give the watch a bluish hue which isn't present on the gen? 2) Are all the DeWitt's offered by the dealers the same or are their differences among them? I ask because the model I'm interested in (the Academia Chronograph Sequential Black) can be found on various dealer sites from $335 to $400+. What gives? Thanks for any info you can provide. I'm going to try my best to give you an answer but note that Dewitt is not my area of expertise here. 1) Yes, most members from what I have read report that rep tint gives off a bluish hue and is not up to gen standards. If you sincerely like the piece, I recommend getting aftermarket AR coating from one of the forum's fine AR specialists. In my opinion, the AR is more than passable during casual wear. It might not be as strong as gen, but gets the job done. 2) You will need to be more specific. Some websites are scam websites and might not offer you the same watch as our dealers will. Materials, movements, and quality control procedures play a role in pricing that should be considered. Also, make sure you're looking at precisely the same watch on every site. The watch can be found at Silix's site for $335 Silix at Josh's for $398 Josh or on the higher end at Angus for $418 Angus That's a huge price spread for watches sourced all from the same factory. Traditionally there used to be the argument "first choose your dealer, then choose your watch." All of the dealers you chose are excellent, however, I believe all three of them drop-ship. RobbieG Posted January 2, 2009 Report Share Posted January 2, 2009 I had one for a bit and they are not up to gen quality IMO, but for an inexpensive rep I think they are fine. The AR is not reallt that big of a deal but of course Chief can fix that if it bugs you. But then again, if I am to be truthful, the gen watches are not really that nice. Interesting designs, but like a lot of their newbie brothers of that era (Dubuis comes to mind as another crappy brand), they are kind of cheaply constructed. Which is a big disappointment since they are wildly expensive. The other thing I don't like about that whole camp of "new" brands is that they all use too much rhodium and the metals when polished have that watery wet look which makes them look like costume jewelry. BRM's are like that too, BTW. Not to pick on them all though - and sorry I'm OT now, but by contrast another modern brand, DeBethune are really, really, really, nice and well made. World class. I just think that if Dewitt is going to charge what they do they should have more substance. But of course, the market is always right and resale values have plumeted compared to the old guard. WIS know a fad when they see one and that is apparent in the sales figures. One AD that sells them near me can't get rid of them. Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

As for Angus aka Puretime, he's great ( even though I've only used him so far ), answers emails promptly and with detail, willing to answer questions on sourcing reluming, servicing etc, great dealer.
