  1. Thanks for info. So if I don't plan on using a date function am I otherwise okay?
  2. Bringing back an old topic.... so if I buy a rep with a modified 7750 movement (resulting in 3-6-9) layout, could I replace the Asian movement with a gen 7753 (particularly if I'm planning on using a gen dial)? Will the stems line up or am I asking for trouble? Thanks.
  3. I much prefer the "Lemania" movements or the Venus 175. The 7750's are fine, but as stated, you should really have it serviced sooner rather than later.
  4. Feeling like I need to add a Bi-Compax Chronograph (registers at 3:00 and 9:00) to the collection, specifically looking for one that uses the Seagull ST19 or Venus 175 clone movement. What's your favorite that is actually available at the moment? I was looking at the DeWitt Academia 1940, but tried both Josh and PureTime and seems difficult to source at the moment. Thanks for the suggestions. IronMarshal
  5. Does anybody know the dial size for the Explorer I? Does it happen to be 28.5mm? Thanks for any help you can provide. Iron Marshal
  6. Homer used to sell some gorgeous unbranded Chinese tourbillons a while ago. I bought one in rose gold that tarnished pretty badly and would love to buy a similar one in stainless steel, but can't seem to find anybody that sells them. I've seen branded versions (Minerva, etc.) for sale, but I'm really looking for the unbranded version with the power reserve and guilloche dial. Does anybody have a clue as to where I can source that watch? Thanks for the help.
  7. Has anybody found any sterile / aftermarket straps with the style of 1) Ulysse Nardin Maxi Marine Diver strap (rubber with titanium / stainless steel inserts), or 2) Breguet Marine rubber strap? Thanks for any help you can provide. Ironmarshal
  8. Do you have any problems with the rose gold oxidizing? If so, how do you take of the rose gold watches? Thanks for sharing the photos. IronMarshal
  9. I'm not so concerned with the movement issue with VC and PP, etc. watches, except to the degree they impact subdial spacing. I care about the finishing of the case and dial much more, and I don't think it's beyond the reach of the rep makers to come up with passable reps. I'm certainly not taking a watch off my watch to let anybody inspect the movement through a display caseback!
  10. I wouldn't exactly call a tourbillon a simple mechanical movement.
  11. For those of who who have bought tourbillon's: who can service these movements when the time comes, and it is going to be ludicrously expensive to do so?
  12. Breguet Classique Here is the updated link. KB, the VC you posted is definitely in the running as well, particularly if neither of the two I originally posted pass muster.
  13. I'm looking for a rep of a nice dress watch and came across these two that I really like. Has anybody seen these in person, and if so, how do they look in person? Breguet Classique or Vacheron Constantin thanks,
  14. Has anybody seen a rep of the MB Sport Chrono with the blue dial and bezel? I know the black dialed rep has been reviewed and looks fantastic, but I was in the MB store the other day and loved the blue version. The hue is very distinctive, and if a blue rep is available I'm curious to know how it stacks up to the blue of the gen.
  15. I like the orange....to each his own I guess.
  16. I have to agree with the crowd on this one....hands down, it's better lume. I've actually quite buying watches with lume (which sadly is most watches) because I'm sick of either having poor lume or the added costs of sending it out for a relume. I'd love the get the Mont Blanc Sport Chrono, but I hate the idea of sending it out for lume.
  17. I love this watch as well...I went to the Mont Blanc store in NYC last time I was there and tried on the blue faced gen and it's a stunning watch. I'm actually saving up for the gen at the moment, but i may buy a rep in a different color to add to the collection. Great review.
  18. Did you see some of those wipouts in the ladies downhill? Brutal crashes....those ladies are tough.
  19. Really looking forward to this one...I've been waiting for them to refresh this model for a while. Here's to hoping it turns out well.
  20. Timely thread...I was just looking at the gen of the watch the other day and intended to see if there was a rep of this watch. Can't believe such a cool watch has surfed below the radar. I'll definately be picking one up.
  21. Love the blue surf, but as others have stated, the newer UN's are a little too much for me...I actually prefer the old style MMD. I've been debating purchasing a blue surf, but I really want the dimpled rhodium dialed MMD, which surprisingly has yet to be released. I know lots of others are lusting after this watch after looking at all the photos RobbieG posted of his gen.
  22. In Bruges....instant classic. I'll definately watch that one again at some point in the future.
  23. I went to the Yacht show in Monaco a few years back and the watches were crazy as well. A fair representation of Rolexes, but not nearly as many as you see in the States. More Lange & Sohne, IWC and saw a few VC's.
  24. Couldn't agree with By-Tor's comments any more highly. The difference that most people point to have to do with poor finishing of links than the composition of the steel. I started off in love with Rolex, the fell out of love, and now I'm feeling it again. Can't go wrong with the classic styling of a Rolex.
