cableguy Posted May 26, 2009 Report Posted May 26, 2009 (edited) I really want a 2001 Sec @ 6 model, but as we all know, they are known to be time bombs. I just was curious to see how many people have this watch and how long its lasted you. Edited May 26, 2009 by cableguy
ubiquitous Posted May 26, 2009 Report Posted May 26, 2009 (edited) I built this one for my Uncle around July of last year; I think it promptly shit the bed maybe 3 months after... Edit to add- My original post on this one is here: 116520 thin case Even then, I had forewarned that this thing was likely not to last. Still, I was expecting a little longer lifespan than just 3 months... Edited May 26, 2009 by ubiquitous
Neil_McCauley Posted May 26, 2009 Report Posted May 26, 2009 I've had mine since January 09 with the "improved" reliability movement with skeleton gears and it's been going strong. I hack the movement when I'm not wearing it to reduce wear and tear on it.
watchlover1 Posted May 27, 2009 Report Posted May 27, 2009 Purchased mine from a scam site 2 years ago and working fine. It stays in a watch winder when it is not on the wrist. It has never been serviced.
POTR Posted May 27, 2009 Report Posted May 27, 2009 Clarification for some... Hacking the movement so the watch doesn't run is ok, but you could end up with wear issues with the crown & threads... oh, and improper distribution of lubrication if it sits for long periods like that.. Additionally, simply not running a 'sliding clutch' type chrono, while the watch is running actually increases friction and wear, the opposite of what you might think...
ubiquitous Posted May 27, 2009 Report Posted May 27, 2009 Agreed, POTR. Probably better to just let the watch run down to a 0 reserve when not wearing it.
ubiquitous Posted May 27, 2009 Report Posted May 27, 2009 No biggie. I always let my watches run down to 0 when I'm not wearing them. I figure that the time has to be set anyways... Might as well let the mainspring relax a little when it's not called to duty
chefcook Posted May 27, 2009 Report Posted May 27, 2009 Has anyone positive long term experiences with DLC coated plates or graphite mods on this movement? I've seen that some of you did it, but actually never heard what happened to these movements after a year or so...
freddy333 Posted May 27, 2009 Report Posted May 27, 2009 Sorry, Guys. I just found this thread. This 1 (which contains a transplanted rep dial & gen hands/pushers/crown/tube) is going on 5 years old This 1 is about 3 years old (same movement) And this is the 1st watch treated with graphite powder (still running)
jfreeman420 Posted May 27, 2009 Report Posted May 27, 2009 I have one of the first generation with the thiner case after they fixed the subdial rings to be thinner like gen (the first ones had fat ugly rings aroundthe subdials.) This one is still running strong, keeping good time after 5 years or more. Two others with the fat case in two tone work when they want to. Usually run for a couple hours and then stop. This problem happened within a couple weeks of the purchases. I would still like a reliable, thin case two tone version.
cableguy Posted May 28, 2009 Author Report Posted May 28, 2009 thanks for all the replies....i guess ill hold off on getting one. I dont really feel like spending 300 on a paper weight.
