Vintage Rolex Insert

I am just waiting on the dial now Oliver, as soon as I get it I will let you know :D

Don't forget how far the pound goes against the dollar at the moment, it was cheap really. I thought I would share my search results so others may put together a very accurate insert for their pride and joy :D:)

Saves buying a load of crap vintage inserts off the bay anyway :p

Cheers B)

I found this insert here:

http://www.pmwf.com/Watches/WATCHSALES04/W...orRolex1680.htm

It cost me $66 delivered, but it looks great, and original vintage dots fit with no problem because it has a 2mm hole!

The dot that came with it looked quite good to, but not like the original.

Cheers :D

You sure the hole size is 2mm and not smaller. The gen dots are 2mm overall so would need a smaller hole, 1.5mm I think offhand?

Thanks for the link, Mickey. I happen to think that's a pretty good looking insert even w/ the stock pearl that it comes with.

Very good point. As un upgrade the insert font is better than the MBW version and the pearl that was in there was better.

Sorry I did not take a picture of the pearl before I removed it.

66 bucks and the insert is better than the stock MBW version for sure.

Cheers :D

Just one question? Does the insert snap into place or have you glued it?

Just one question? Does the insert snap into place or have you glued it?

The insert clicked right into place, no glue. In fact so did the pearl, very firm fit :)

I will add a tiny bit of glue though when I start wearing the watch I think, what would be the best type of glue to use? Could you post a link maybe please?

I would be happier knowing that it had a bit of glue securing it :D

What I did with my inserts was to clean the back with emery paper to give the glue something to adhere to. I then cleaned both the bezel and back of the insert with some isopropanol cleaning fluid to remove any trace of grease. Then I used a cocktail stick to put tiny spots of araldite rapid at each 5 minute mark on the bezel and snapped the insert into place. Then after cleaning any glue from the front on the insert (there would be none at all if you are careful) I used a cocktail stick again to run a small bead of superglue around the bezel and the insert at the rear.

I also glued the dot in as well with araldite to make that ultra secure.

mickey,

thanks for the link. unfortunately i was snoozing and missed it..doh,

my gen 5512 could do with a new pearl to fill its hole up. ill keep my eyes peeled though.

nice job on the insert though. its very nice indeed and looks good. bet it felt satisfying :)

FYI, if you want to keep the insert in there with something more than a snap fit, i use some clear nail varnish on the underside.

holds it great and is easily broken to allow the insert to be removed.

using glue is scary, theres always the chance its not going to let it go when you need it to.

When I saw the insert with the gen dot, I was very pleased with the result to say the least :)

I waited until I received the insert and was sure the dot fit OK before I posted the link. I did not want people to buy the inserts until I was sure they were the correct size and fit etc.....

Now we have a good source for vintage inserts and we can buy gen dots, that is if he has any left :)

Thanks for the tip on securing the insert, I will go with a glue that is not so strong I think :D

"All I need now is a bold date overlay, but I can't find one anywhere :( "

My friend,

A member PM me the link to www.cubic-works.com and they do have the bold date wheels you want.

The problem is, I paypal him the money October 10th, and NOTHING.

No overlay, and not one single reply to my mail from them.

If anyone has one of these or can send me to a different supplier, i would appreciate it very much.

I would almost try to buy again from cubic-works.

Just because i cant find anywhee else and i need one of these.

:bangin:

I contacted the shop that sold me the insert and gave them a description of the date overlay I needed. I sent a picture too and mentioned it must be a clockwise date change. They replied they could get that part for me and that it would be $17 delvered! :D

I will wait and see what they send before I get to carried away

Rest assured I will post pictures regardless, as soon as it arrives :thumbsupsmileyanim:

Cheers :)
