I just for the life of me can't understand how this board allows this guy to still function?? Sure freely sharing information....yeah I get it, sorta? So here it's kind of accepted and entertaining to allow members to freely rip others off, welcome him back the next day to find another victim! Thought I'd try my hand at one of these... Brief departure from the 1940's dress watches I've been working on lately This project started more as a curiosity; I was intrigued specifically by the whisperings and 'myth' of dials that were so close to gen, that they may as well be. So, my adventure initiated with a dial and hand set from cc33; great guy to work with and cannot say enough good things about him. He's truly an asset to the community and I consider him one of the great authorities on Big Crowns. He's really done a lot of research on these and it shows in his fantastic builds. The dial base is a genuine Beyeler, refinished to genuine specs in the same process that such dials were produced back in their time. The gilt fonts, chapters and index are all base metal, framed up with chocolate brown 'tropical', patina. Sealing everything in is nitrocellulose lacquer... Which provides a nice, glossy mirror-like finish. Looking at the dial at an angle, one can see that the gilt attributes are actually on a different, lower plane of the dial surface; adds a lot of character and depth to the watch. After seeing the dial up close and in my hands, I knew I had to keep going. Hands are a nice set of gilt with lollipop seconds; nice match to the markers. Had to have a small repair done on the seconds hand; the tube had separated from it completely and so I had to have a new one riveted on (but it's all set now). A project just wouldn't be a project without a few hurdles along the way; it would be a bit boring if there were no troubleshooting or problems to solve and everything just went together without any effort I love LOVE the big bubble of the lollipop seconds... Maybe one of my favorite details on this watch. Perhaps especially so, considering the effort needed to get it sorted out The insert is a near mint, pristine example of a fat font I had come across on luck. It appears to be, perhaps from a 1680/8, as the fonts are slightly beige in tone. They're a great match to the cream luminous markers on the dial. I also picked up a nice, even faded grey insert, but felt that it wasn't quite as good of a match to the overall feel of the watch. Just chucked that one back into the spares box and will maybe find a use for it someday... The movement is a clean 1030, fully overhauled by the master up North And wrapping it all up is a case from Phong, matched with a gen 800 crown that I picked up for a whopping $15. Took a bit of a risk on it as the pics were not great, but there were some small details that stood out that I felt comfortable with. That... And it was only $15! Sure, it's got some wear... A knick here and a small ding there... But for the price... I ain't complaining. As mentioned in other threads, my crown doesn't screw down completely; a common problem as many gen examples out there seem to suffer the same issue. On to some pics... No, Joey you are the one making things worse. You ask why others who aren't missing watches are posting so why are you posting? Just because someone signs up to the forum and plays nice for a while doesn't excuse them stealing others members property. You seem to be imaging some code of honour that doesn't exist - rwg ain't the army, son.

People want the truth. The things said about md2020 may be true, or might not be, in part, or not at all. But those casting the unfounded accusations are making the problem worse, as you said.

Wasn't expecting any less. Not easy making wise decisions with such a large ego standing in the way.

Very good point, thanks for saying that. I'm going to have a look in his profile and see if I can remove the ads for his services. That's a much needed change. Red: no harm, no foul. I've been looking for the opportunity to use the word aggrandize for months.

I dont think the feedback system here is a cover all in this instance mate.... Given matters for a few are still outstanding completing FB under the member profile shouldnt be the only means of feedback or trying to achieve some settlement to the issue.... unless of course you have written it off.. I would hope that at this stage that a ban is not considered or suggested in anyway and that Mike understands that the door is still open for him to resolve things and move forward.... Surely that is imperative to those guys that cant afford to write anything off....

I been asking the mods to at least have a warning to not deal with this guy. Under his name he advertises that he repairs watches. If a new member comes on and sees this I'm sure md2020 is going to try to deal with any member that contacts him. You can agree with me on this. Believe me I would totally love for this scammer to be totally banned but you have a fair point about Scotty getting his watch back. This guy has been lying and scamming us since July. He cause us to argue with members for no reason because if some of these members knew what we now know about this junkie lying thieving scammer they would have not said a word.

A fair point and well said. A point valid for this forum and our real lives in the real world. Freedom to work out our problems is always better than a resolution forced upon us.

Scotty just posted that he has had communication with MD2020 over the last month, and received his watch back. If I ban MD2020 than Scotty loses the ability to PM him. Do you see anyone here accepting and finding humor in MD2020 ripping people off? Have you read a post here that welcomes MD2020 back to find more victims? Have you seen anyone here welcoming him and endorsing his actions? If you have, point them out and I'll deal with them. Sure, I can be a nazi and ban people for pissing me off. Who's first? Anyone want to speak up? Your neck is on the line. Anyone? That's not how we operate here. We are not the Gestapo, neither are we a democracy. Everyone here is empowered to stand up and shout and complain when they see bad behavior. We also encourage everyone to mention good behavior when they see it. Heavy handed moderation results in members that are afraid to say what's on their mind. Then we're no better than the other boards that ban people for wearing the wrong shirt. That's not who we are here. It's a very fine line between allowing someone to remain here, keeping open lines of possible communication (that the scammer is likely to ignore anyway) vs. banning the lying bastard, only to have a dozen people pop up in PM asking why I did it? They're the silent ones that don't complain, and are using PM to resolve their issues, and don't say anything until after the fact. Do I listen to the 4 or 5 people that are calling for his head? Or do I try to let YOU GUYS keep the fires burning and warn each other? Is this place to aggrandize the ego of the Moderators, or to let you have a community to share in? Exactly how much Gestapo do you really want here? And how much freedom? Think hard about what you want this place to look like. We have many years of RWG culture behind us, and that's not to be squandered lightly.

MD2020, Are you going to speak up and defend yourself? Your last log in time is publicly visible on your profile. How about clearing the air and reestablishing communications. I think that's what most of the anger is over. You may yet save your relationships and in the end make your customers happy.

I think being able to own such an accurate rep isn't meant to fool anyone, but rather to have the satisfaction that it's as close to the gen that we can achieve - and frankly it's no shame owning a rep of such an iconic piece - simply because such a gen piece may never be available to the 99% of real Pam fans like us.
