  1. Hey, most forums have this kind of utterly useless (but fun) music thread, so why don't we open one too? Besides browsing for the watch forums, I listen a lot of music during my "office days". Actually I always have something in the player. Right now I'm listening to this amazing progressive rock album from 2007. It's one of my most played records of last year. Porcupine Tree: Fear of a Blank Planet Keep 'em coming!

  2. Back over a year ago, I wrote a pretty extensive write-up about my 6542 build. I really can't call this my build, because while I own the watch the build was a joint effort involving a lot of members here on the forum. Since the original post I have made a few changes to the 6542, the first was a dial swap to an Ingod44 White dial. This is the 1675 dial that they were selling, as the face is identical to the 6542 dial, but this is a flat plate dial with feet, and the 6542 dial is a "pie pan" shape (like and upside down pie pan" with rolled edges that snap on to the genuine Rolex movement. this won't work on the 2846 movement. the other modification was to send the caseback to JMB and let him work his magic!! He engraved the Pan AM logo and the issue numbers on the case back.I also swapped out the rep stretch rivet bracelet for a gen 65201H Jubilee bracelet. For those who have come along since the original post, here is a brief rundown of the components Case : Ming Quy 6542 case this is a pretty accurate case, and it has a correct plated brass bezel and correct case back Case back: Came with the case, and engraved by JMB This is not the flat "stepped" case that appears on later GMT's Insert: JoeyB Lexan- these are the best around, if you build a 6542, you need to get one of these Crystal: The case came with a genuine correct crystal, but it was cracked. I believe we used a Clark crystal Dial: Ingod44 White 1675 dial Hands: Small GMT hand is a rafflestime that JoeyB modified to be more correct. The other hands I believe came from a puretime 6542 that we were using as a donor watch Movement: 2846 Slow beat with the GMT gears came from the puretime 6542 Crown: Gen Rolex Bracelet: Gen Rolex Jubilee w/gen 55 endlinks, "A" code clasp (1976) This is not the correct bracelet, as the 6542's came with rivet bracelets and were probably changed to 7836 bracelets at service, but this is and old comfortable bracelet and wears well. That pretty much sums up the build, lots of folks were involved in this, as there were numerous problems along the way, several were movement related, as the 2846 is a pretty old movement and this one required several trips to the shop to get right! Here are a few photos I took today. The last one is a pair of Rolex GMT's the black dial is a gen 16750 which is the second generation after the 6542 so you can see the progression of Rolex GMT's from 1958 to 1983 The watches are shown with some of the PanAm memorabilia that I have accumulated. Thanks for looking

  4. Hi, fantastic project You´re starting there. I was looking at throwing a Yuki gilt dial and hands together with the athaya crown in this 5513 Cartel (unbeatable price from Sead) but in the end it´s working so well and it´s so nice to wear with all flaws included that I just left it beaten up as it is before breaking anything. Meanwhile even on old gens I have also seen mix-ups of all kinds of parts (those available, not exact replacements) so 4me it really doesn´t matter too much. One day still might replace the crown, age the insert and maybe relume the dial but for now it´s like this:

  8. Took a chance after droptopman's recommendation and sent mine to Cwazy. Just got these sneak peaks today. Turn around time is quicker than his spreadsheet would indicate, and it's about time to get this thing put together ...

  11. Update... I got home and unwrapped the package and guess what? It looks like a woman's watch. Showed it to my missus (made out that I had actually bought it for her) and she said "I like it, but I wish it was a bit bigger" Story of my life...

  12. First off it is quite the contrary, here guys are not shills for dealers as a matter of fact on some other boards you get jumped for calling a dealer out here we are not like that: feedback only works if there is good and bad. I have an idea why don't you give him the top three w/ pros and cons because we are looking for guys to come hang out with us to discuss/enjoy our hobby together, which is our purpose as a board not a service for hit and run shoppers. PS I have seen your PMs in regard to this thread you are on thin ice. Disagreements are one thing but gentlemen hold themselves above such uncouth correspondences.

  14. You've been a member for 7 years and still don't get it? You must have the reading comprehension of a child because it doesn't take 30-40 hours to figure your list of "top" reps in ANY brand. It takes a few minutes using the search "who has the best sub" and you'll find countless threads where newbs like yourself have asked that question and have had it answered by some of the more patient "rep shills", as you put it. If a few minutes is too much of your precious time I suggest finding a new hobby where there are more pictures and simple sentences for you to figure out what's going on. To use your words... Maybe, just maybe, if people just used the blasted search function they would find the latest that IS OUT THERE. Why do participating members of this forum have to work for you newbs? The forum is a body of knowledge. What in life is just GIVEN to you? Please. Man up.

  15. So what are you doing here sir, just trolling for a fight? First off, I don't think the vast majority if us take ourselves too seriously, or are we pompous guardians of the facts on reps. But what we are serious about is knowledge, and that extends to reps and genuine watches. We have realized over the years of participating in both rep and genuine watch sites, is that knowledge can only be learned by reading and research. And another factoid that may surprise you is that most of the members here not only own a bunch of reps, they also own a large number of genuine watches as well, and I'm not talking about a watch box full of Timex's and assorted department store and Walmart watches, but some very expensive brands like Rolex, Audemars Piguet, Omega, etc. AFA the guy/gal who wants to quickly buy a watch and not get scammed or receive one that is "utter rubbish"to quote you, I would advise that they spend their 400.00 USD on a new mid range genuine watch. They will get a new watch, a warranty and peace of mind. What of course they won't be able to do is show off their new "Rolex" to all their friends at the local bar. If they are serious about buying a good rep, then stick around and learn like we all did. All forums,of every ilk live or die by member participation.I heartily welcome any and all who are willing to contribute by participation. I will eagerly share my meager knowledge with them. If however they are among the "hit and run" crowd, I have no time to waste on them. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

  16. I shouldn't respond to the trolling, but I will anyways. Actually they are all "real" watches in that they all keep time. Many of the members here do have or have had genuine watches. Calling the time pieces many of our members have "cheap fakes" is quite an insult. All you need to do is look at some of the stunning pieces that have been built by the members. For some it it not about owning a "Rolex" but it's a passion for watch collecting, studying the history, and sharing that passion and knowledge with others. Part of sharing that knowledge is to encourage others to take the time to do some of their own studying... Try to wrap your head around having 12 instead of 1. I am a good example of this. I have collected Rolexes since the 80's but usually only had 1 at a time. I have had many genuine Rolexes over the years but really did not know that much about the history or intricate details of them. This forum has opened my eyes to the real world of watch collecting. Doing my first Franken build was far more satisfying than any gen purchase I have made. So instead of 1 or 2 gen pieces I am collecting all the models I like. Not to say I won't buy another gen, I am currently shopping for a 1966 5513, but not to replace my reps to add to them. Sent from my droptop using telepathy.
