  2. This is not watch related, but thought I'd share a note my lil one wrote to the tooth fairy when he was about 4-5 years old. I remember he was reading/writing relatively early. At any rate, was cleaning up his room and found it amongst his things. He's now 14 and is thinking ahead of what he might want to be. I think a career in investment banking would be a good choice!

  3. I always figured the 7836 and 9315 were the same except for the 9315 accepting 2mm springbars and different clasp and hoods. You can make a pretty good replica '9315' with a 'Mary' 7836, a long clasp with or without diver extension, and proper hoods. You need to use a clasp with 8 adjustment holes in a row, not staggered like on a 93150. I made a '9315' using a 'Mary' 7836 and the main trouble was finding a connector piece to attach the flip lock end of the clasp to the bracelet. I had to take the last link in the bracelet apart and use a different connecting link. I left the dive extension off so the extra links would fit under the clasp cap without removing a link. Rivet flip locks... I had a genuine 6538 from the late 1950s and it had a swiss rivet oyster with a long clasp and the flip lock lever laid flat on top of the clasp cap, there was no notch in the top of the clasp cap for the fliplock lever. It did not have a diver extension either. It laid on my desk for years but I can't find it right now. Update.. I found the old clasp cap and it has 8 adjustment holes like the 9315 and the top is similar to a later cap except for no indention for the flip lock lever. It also has crimped 'buttons' between the last two adjustment holes to hold the bracelet under the cap. The flip lock hinge hole is pulled out on the left side.

  5. For those who don't know me I used to race Astons and yesterday was sent this great photo of me racing at Brands Hatch a few years ago. The actual shot is approaching Druids. I managed to win this race (the field are somewhere behind) and topped 175mph on the straight. Thsi car is a very special car with 650bhp and weighing 1150Kgs and was very quick! Regards AJ

  7. Once upon a time, there was a factory in China that invested in building a high-quality, very accurate rep Submariner at a higher price point than was typical for reps (then, anyway). That factory was known as the watchmaker9 factory (WM9). The exclusive source for these watches in the US was a guy named BK, who did quite a bit of quality control and some additional mods before selling the watches on. Then BK's contact at the factory disappeared (this was around 2011 or so, the rumor is he was killed in a car crash) and the watches were unavailable for a while. A couple years later, out of nowhere, this TC guy shows up selling what are clearly updated versions of the WM9 watch. Apparently he reconnected with someone else at the same factory. (More details and speculation about this in BK's section of the website.) Some of us were sketched out at first (and I still, frankly, don't believe his original story that he just started building watches one day and the TC sub was the result) but he's clearly pushed hard to improve the product, has worked with different factories to get better parts, and has proven himself a trustworthy dealer to the rep community. That's who this TC guy is. I won't post his name but he's not private about it, I think it's on his blog.

  12. Auto, thanks for trying. There's a thread here where someone tackled this exact problem, creating a flat end midlink to replace the squished midlink joining the Mary's 7836 to the endlinks. But I sure can't find it!

  13. No link to anything and since I do not take pictures, I have not posted any pictures. I have a lot of genuine stuff saved over the years with most of it mixed in with watches and parts of all kinds so I can not find any certain part without a day long search. This morning I dug out some genuine parts (bracelets mostly) and of course there was not a single folded oyster in the bunch to compare with a WI/Mary bracelet. The genuine folded oyster bracelet must be on a watch. I can't even find the WI/Mary 7836 bracelet that I turned into a 9315 type. "...pics or it didn't happen." Some nice sunny day I will put my replica watch junk together in one pile, genuine stuff in another pile, take a few pictures of it, and send them to Nanuq and he can vouch for me so I will have a little bit of credibility. I do keep genuine stuff separated from replica stuff with notes on what's what.

  17. Here's a post from KingFrog before he got all butthurt that we don't take him super serious - very interesting eh? Hey All 09 December 2014 - 10:36 PM New to watches,,,,,,well good watches. I have started a replica collection but m in the market for a GEN Brietling because Rolexs are considered replicas far more. If I am going to drop $5000+ I want a nice watch to hand down to my nephew that won;t be considered a replica and some nice replicas to enjoy as well. I spied a Project X replica Rolex (only 25 Gens made) I want. So its nice to have a site where BOTH gens and REPs can be discussed. Hopefully I will learn more about both

  22. The old one looks like a classic Submariner. 16610 was the last one of its ilk. The new one is just a bloated, boring and soulless piece. Absolutely NOTHING desirable in the new fat Sub to me.

  23. We are finishing the first prototypes, which we plan to launch in Basel this year. Depending on production schedules, I expect that they will be available for purchase either at that time or shortly afterwards... Eh si! Romano de Roma...

  24. For now, 6x is the highest we offer. We are working on a 10x loupe, but I am not currently happy with the performance of the optical design we were able to get thus far (though to be honest I am in the minority here, as most people who have tried it are impressed), and I will only bring it out if we manage to put together something extraordinary. No point making "just another 10x loupe" - we are striving for another disruptive game-changer, like our Model 01 6x loupe...

  25. Hello everyone! Long time watch collector, turned loupe maker. I hope it is ok for me to post here - if not, please accept my apologies and delete this post. I will not comment on whether our loupes are worth their price (though I'd love to if you really want me to!), but if you have any questions as to what sets them apart from all others, what accessories will be coming for them, and how these loupes came to be, feel free to ask... Cheers, Alberto

  29. First three reps I purchased were TT Subs, back in early 2004 when I first came to the community. I have owned 2 "TW Best" models of this watch, and also one very old CN model from Joshua. Our family friend owns a genuine TT "Serti" Sub, which I have handled many times. So I guess I have some kind of insight to write about this replica. I never wrote a decent article of those old reps of mine, and this is the watch that LOTS of members have asked me to review over the years. TT Sub is kind of a "newbie magnet" in many ways. This replica model is not new, but the factory has introduced one very dramatic change: Better (smaller) winding crown. This is much welcomed improvement, because the "Jumbo" crown used to ruin this rep competely. Other than the crown, this watch is basically a Noobmariner with gold parts. By many (including me) the Noobmariner is considered be the best ever-out-of-the-box Submariner replica. The crown guards and pearl are very reasonable, and good enough as they are. And once again, only the "Noob" Rolexes have the correct, thick cylindrical "front rehaut". The other factories (including MBW and TW models) aren't quite as good in this regard. However, the actual rehaut depth is about one millimeter too low on the "Noob factory" Submariners. In the "old days" the last link that connected the bracelet to the SEL used to be just layered with a thin surface of gold, and the side of this area was left "naked"... i.e stainless steel on the side was visible underneath the gold layer (on top). That was another serious flaw and "deal breaker" on this rep, which has been fixed for this particular model. Just like the SS Noobmariner, the lugs are beautifully finished. The usual question is: "How good is the blue"? Well, I can safely say it's pretty damn good. Older models used to bee too "purple", but this watch doesn't have the problem. Blue is deep and rich. Here's the rep and gen side-by-side. The following photo is courtesy by member "JNKAI" (thanks). This is the exact same replica model, but notice how awfully HUGE the winding crown was before the "update". Utterly ridiculous. Like I said, I'm glad it has been fixed. Oversized crown is very typical problem with most Rolex replicas, and frankly I don't understand why it is so difficult to get right. This brings us to the best part of this watch, which is the dial. Just like on its stainless steel counterpart it's virtually perfect. This factory really knows to get the dials correct, and regarding the Rolex reps it's once again in the league of its own. Just for fun, you can check how my "Noob factory" GMT Master II dial compares with the genuine HERE. The best dial photo of this watch is from John Holmbrook's Rolex Reference Page, which I used as a source once again. I tried to shoot my watch from the exact same angle and here's the result. (Genuine on the right). As you can see the only differences worth mentioning are the minute hand (gen has larger luminous area), and the datewheel (which fills the larger area of the cyclops). The gens come with two different bezel font colors (gold and plain yellow). Both are correct. You can't seriously except the rep dial to get better than this. I was also positively surprised that hands and hour markers have the same luminous abilities on this watch. Usually lume on the hands is much weaker. My intial impression of the bracelet wasn't great, as it was in dire need of oiling. That's very typical for the replica Rolex Oyster bands. The links were stiff, made noise and didn't feel smooth at all. Oiling, as usual, changed the feel immediately. After having the watch in my possession for a week, and after comparing it to countless of gen pics I began to appreciate the bracelet a lot more. The gold tone might be different from the 18K, but I doubt it could be detected easily. I was going to get a gen TT "Serti" Sub from my friend for the comparison for this article, but unfortunately his long business trip ruined this plan. Experts say that the 14K gold tone isn't quite as rich as the gen 18K. The gen (supposedly) has more "creamy" color, while the rep tone is more yellow. Eurotimez posted a thread about the bracelet, and according to him the middle links are solid 14K gold. According to Eurotimez, the gold in this particular TT Sub comes in three different qualities: Plated 18k (will fade and wear off quickly) Cheaper gold with a thin 14k layer that will eventually get off, leaving ugly black spots where it wears. Solid 14k gold (this particular watch in the review) = never wears off. As you can see the clasp has a gold layer all through its surface, and it's absolutely IMPOSSIBLE to keep scratch free. Gold layering on the clasp area (around the coronet) isn't quite as smooth on the rep, which could be detectable. Same can be said about the crown, the layer isn't perfectly smooth. But it's good to keep in mind that we're talking about rep of a $8K watch here. PS: What many people don't know is that all parts on the genuine 16613 aren't solid gold, either. The gen has plated crown and clasp area. Based on my experience, treating the rep TT Oyster bracelet with car wax is the best option to make it feel more substantial. It makes a difference. One annoying thing about the TT Oyster band (rep and gen) is how easily it collects microscopic hairline scratches. You only have to breath into its direction to get it scratched. Merely photographing this watch was enough to get a few of them here and there. Not that it would bother me, but I hope the customer who will receive this watch isn't one of those "anal types". Here's the traditional review wrist shot. This definitely is a pretty watch. Conclusion: Without a doubt this is the best TT Sub replica I have ever seen. And that's exactly why I wanted to review it in the first place. Now that the crown has been fixed, I seriously doubt this can be repped much better. I'm impressed how detailed the finish on this watch is. The dial is utterly amazing, and the plated bezel and pearl are very good as well. It would be very interesting to compare this against the new MBK version, and hopefully I have a chance to do that in the near future. Thanks again our new dealer, ***"Eurotimez"*** for borrowing this beauty. Good luck with your business ventures! Thanks all members for your continuous support, and I hope you enjoyed this another small pictorial of mine.
