  1. Bracelet is back from MY. Man he does great work. Looks and feels like new. I think dbane is putting the finishing touches on this so should not be long now. Sent from my droptop using telepathy [emoji466]️

  2. For those of you that know me, you know I'm not a huge fan of the current version of the TC cases. But with a little work, they are acceptable for an early 16610 or 16800 build. But the challenge is getting the lugholes drilled properly. I've seen some very bad efforts at lughole drilling in a non-lughole case and as such, (next to bevels) is one of the tougher mods to do right. Here's an example of a case I recently worked on for an early 16610 build. Right after drilling: Even at high speed, burrs will inevitably build up around the hole. After a light grinding and repolishing. Along with modest bevel action: Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  3. After having a rep Tudor 9411 for the last year or so, I fell in love with it and its style so have been eyeing to get a genuine piece for the past several months. It has been difficult for sure, eBay, VRF and Rolexforum have seen many pass through but all at market prices - the black 9411 fetching around US$3.5-4K depending condition. Anyway, fast forward to a few weeks ago, I saw in a local pawn shop a nice little 9411 come in and I thought I would check it out... It was pretty nice - a early 1980s model with what seems a later dial (no longer made by Beylar) and with a very clean bezel. The crown was still the old 702 and the caseback had a more unique engraving font. Driven by a 2784, it was also keeping good time too. However, the acrylic crystal was a bit strange, it was a domed crystal, seemingly more like for a 1675 with the cyclops more towards the center of the dial. Putting aside the questionable crystal for one second, the other problem as usual was the price - the vendor was asking A$5.3K which equated to around the US$4-4.2K mark. Definitely on the high side and without a bracelet, it was difficult to swallow. Over the subsequent week or two, I was unfortunately drawn to it over and over again and after getting confirmation from several members of this Board that it was indeed genuine, I went back to negotiate and see if I could take it home. After some haggling, some of which I must say was quite generous of the vendor, I was offered a price too good to walk away from. Some quick pictures for now. Note that I have only swapped out the crystal for a generic 127 and have put it on a rep 93150 bracelet - will need to hunt for the genuine ones to complete this set. Overall, very happy with this piece. Welcome all comments! thanks.

  4. Received the dial over the weekend and I have to say that the pics of these do not do them justice! I will be retiring my MBW dialed Explorer and this will go into a new build for my daily wear watch.

  13. It is an awful situation, made worse by the fact that other forum members are dealing with the recent theft from the watchsmith Rex over on RG. Similar to the MD2020 fiasco here. And then that forum member was recently slandering you on some of the boards. I'd send the email out. Anyone with half a sense of decency and compassion will understand. Hang in there.

  17. My condolences to you and all your family Mickey. Remember the good times and the good and fun times you've had with your Mum. Celebrate her life! And definitely send that group email out, doesn't need details, but do state you'll be "off line" for 'x' weeks and you won't be reading any emails or working until your return, "thank you for your understanding, etc, etc."

  18. Micky, even though you were expecting it, it will still be a shock to you and it will take time to adjust. ANY customer of yours that doesn't show compassion/sympathy should not be welcomed back in my opinion. Yes, business is business, but this is community (as AJ has proved) and people should understand and support you. Send your group email, explain that you will be in contact in a week, two weeks or whatever. It's not going to cause anyone problems not having a 'fake' watch for a few more days.

  19. Micky may I suggest you tell everyone that you are taking the week off and therefore everything will be slightly delayed by that timeframe, they shoudl all understand. Regards AJ

  20. I ain't saying it's right. But you're saying a foot massage don't mean nothin', and I'm saying it does. Now look, I've given a million ladies a million foot massages, and they all meant something. But we act like they don't, but they do, and that's what's so [censored] cool about them. There's a sensuous thing going on where you don't talk about it, but you know it, she knows it, [censored] Marsellus knew it, and Antwan should have [censored] better known better. I mean, that's his [censored] wife, man. He ain't gonna have a sense of humor about this [censored]. You know what I'm saying?

  23. Personally, I don't like display backs on Divers. If a dive watch is a "Dive watch", then it's by my definition a tool watch. Dive watches have had closed backs primarily for one reason, it's safer from a water ingress standpoint. Of course, the AP diver is a diver, but it's not a "Dive watch" nobody except someone who is super rich is going to take a 15K+ watch 60 feet underwater. First because diving is hard on a watch, if you're in areas with lots of coral, it's inevitable that you are going to bang or scrape on coral heads, second getting back on a dive boat especially if the seas are a little rough is like trying to ride a mechanical bull at the state fair!! I have banged my watch, camera, dive computer on the steps or rails of dive boats plenty of times, just trying to get on the boat. All of the above is the main reason professional divers wear relatively inexpensive tough watches. I believe the primary reason AP went to the display back on Divers was to foil the rep makers, another exercise in futility. I believe that they are alarmed by the accuracy of the high end reps, and mistakenly believe that this will make it impossible to rep the divers. Sort of like Rolex using the etched coronet on the crystal and the Rolex, Rolex, Rolex engraving on the rehaut. Stopped those nasty fakers in their tracks didn't it? I think I'll just keep my V7

  24. Quick update on the progress. The bracelet is somewhere between the PNW and China on its way to MY for a full restoration. Case is in NC getting engraved and everything else is with Dbane waiting patiently to be assembled. I was hoping to have this done before a long overdue vacation in the middle of May, but looks like we may be pressed to reach that goal. Regardless I cannot wait to see this baby assembled. 25. Ok guys, finally found a decent 7206. Just picked her up this afternoon. Obviously she needs a restoration, but everything is there and looks to be in good shape. Needless to say the excitement level is increasing...

  27. Mendota, I hear ya. I was lucky in that I knew there was a Voldemort dial coming sometime within 2 years. So I put together pieces that would take that dial, eventually, and built something I could love (but not respect) in the interim. There's the difference. The MQ dialed version was good enough that walking Waikiki one evening I passed the Ferrari shop and next door is the huge Omega shop. One of the salesmen was just going in and saw me wearing something flashy so he held the door and basically dragged me in. We sat and admired PloProfs and POs and chatted about the coaxial movement and he finally said "is that a Big Crown you're wearing?" I smiled and handed it to him and he thoroughly checked it out. True, it was salty from a day in the ocean so he didn't try the crown. He called the rest of the guys over and they all passed it around, saying they hadn't seen a real one in years (little did they realize they still hadn't). They had the big pads out on the counter and the whole deal. They handed it back gently saying they couldn't believe I'd risk getting it wet, and I said "just because something gets old there's no reason for it to quit working right" and smoothed back my greying hair. They all had a big laugh and we parted friends. They dragged me in so it wasn't technically a violation of forum rules, but the Daz modded MQ dial and hands was easily good enough for them to accept as gen.
