  2. The dial opening on the gen is bigger on the 1680, that I know. On the reps it is confusing because they often use one case to cover both models. My advice would be to measure the dial opening or seek advise from those who have for the particular case you are interested in.

  5. I spoke to Christian Lass the other day and he agreed to give all regular members of RWG a discount of 30% off his online courses. Christian Lass is a watchmaker at Patek and is preparing these courses in his off time. I took one of the courses myself in the past and it really got me jumpstarted to work on watch movements myself. They are high resolution video and explain step by step what to do, how to do it and most importantly why to do it. Any regular member (don't join the forum just to get the discount as you won't) who is interested in taking a course please contact me via PM and you will receive a coupon code to get your 30% off. Single lessons of the courses are available to watch for free so you can get an idea what to expect. Check them out at learnwatchmaking.com.

  9. Hello everybody, I'm Bennie from the Netherlands. After visiting Hong Kong in Januari I'm infected with the "watch virus" and started to dig in the hidden world of reps. I joined the Dutch site "replicahorloge.net", but it seems they are off line since a few days. Anybody knows why? On the other hand I am sure I wiil find all the info I need here.

  12. Welcome to our community I hope you will find a home here. I think that the Dutch forum has closed down. I didn't go there much as Dutch is one of the few European languages I can't struggle by in. On the bright side one of the Moderators from that forum is a popular member here. @martijnp

  14. Sure ;-) I can help. It starts with an idea. Think of what type of dial and case you want. Look at builds you like or always wanted for ideas. Here is a little quick guide to Panerai cases and looks. Takes a case set, I usually purchase from River. He has most vintage styles. Ebay is good too ;-) or buy through m2m for parts. Then your favorite dial maker to make your idea come to life, bigwaved, black shark, Pratt, Nastas, belkin, or pvirus. There are many others just a few I heard about. Buy a movement like a 6497 for manual wind Panerai with seconds at 9 o'clock. Buy a nice pair of hands to go with the dial you designed. Last but not least a perfect strap to go with your build. Here is an idea that I'm working on to get built soon. A Metri style dial with a twist. Sent this to a dial maker with a radioactive theme. Told him to to try and get a nice gradient using warm colors red orange yellow He came back with this model And after the dial gets completed I will work on getting the perfect case, hands and strap. I can send videos on how to assemble and disassemble if anyone wants. Sent from my iPhone using TapatalkFor more advanced builds there is aging, case shaping, plexi choices, hands aging ... Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk It takes a little practice but after you do your first build you will be hooked. For more advanced builds there is aging , case shaping , plexi choices Kploy is the man for that, hands aging ( look up boiled egg trick for that) Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  15. Nycrounders and bigwaved and mrthompspnr and who knows how many others, you know you're killing me here. Innocently showing glittering gems on this thread, like "oh THIS old thing??" For those of us who don't walk on water and divide by zero, what does it take to put one of these together?
