  2. Had a rare day at home so I decided to work on my A/6538 build that's been dragging on for years . its a budget build based on a silix case /welded. The bezel is made from a random spare one I had that fit the case, German silver welded on/replated. I don't have the tools or time to make a two piece bezel, and as far as I know there's some solid 'prototypes' which are acceptable for the vrf echelons anyway Made some fat bars from the vintage Pam compression system, drilled out the tubes and press fit regular 'fat' spring bars inside. I will probably weld them to the case when the time comes. Having a dial done which will be incoming soon. (Burford style) lots of issues still to figure out, but some progress... project is still in early stages !

  3. This is just my opinion on the service of the 2 movements. The reason I give for not servicing the Asian movement is because of the quality of the parts. You can buy a brand new Asian 2836-2 or 2824-2 for around $100. A new swiss is around $220. The main difference I see between the asian and swiss is the metal used. The quality of the metal used in the swiss is much better than the Asian. When I loop the asian parts I can see that the quality and finish of the parts is much less than those in the swiss movement. Things like the mainspring and tub, the gears in the train, the date corrector wheel, the hairspring, the yoke, the yoke corrector and so on. While you can certainly service the asian movement, by the time you get all the parts installed and put back together, you're approaching the cost of a movement. You certainly want to replace all the gears in the train, those cost around $20. The mainspring, depending on the age of the movement could be very weak, again because of the metal used to mfg. The mainspring assy is around $20. So now, if you put all those parts in, you're almost at the cost of a new movement, including the labor. I don't think I've ever seen a third wheel and pinion break on a swiss, but I've seen several on an asian. The quality of the metal used throughout the swiss movement provides years of trouble free service. While the asian movements of late have been greatly improved, and really perform well, they are still not on the quality level of the swiss. For the money, asian is still a great buy. However, if you have a major problem with it, just replace it. You'll be glad you did. That's my take on it.

  7. The sales forum, the page glitch. These are things that are expected with any technology update. Look, Apple has glitches with every new iPhone. It just comes with the territory. The difference is, when it comes to message boards, people want instant satisfaction. We have something unique in the close-knit community here that, frankly, isn't at the other forums. People will come back once the kinks get worked out - incentive to come back just expedites that process.

  8. Hi guys, Not much going here so I thought I'd post up something new. This is (I believe) a one-of-a-kind build (for now, anyways) 1990 Rolex Air-King Salmon. This is the only year you could get the 3-6-9 Salmon dial with the lug holes case. Since everyone knows I build my own watches anyway I didn't stress over the 36mm case size... Specs? JMB Case set Gen Crown Gen ETA 2824 Raffles Dial and Hands

  9. Tried it on a jubilee. Think I'll save that for the blue dial build when the case gets here...

  10. What are reps? I have no idea what this is about. We don't have a Brig, just a secure offshore facility run by Legend as a Black Op, so Admin has total deniability. Oops I didn't say that outloud did I?

  11. dont hate it. except for the crown guards (looks like a rep) but why the cyclops on the anniversary model? is it maybe because people who bought it the first time would now need glasses to read the date?

  12. I was hard on him, that I do not hide, but this stuff reaaaaally bugs me. If you guys know me by now, you know that I have a big problem - we can call it almost a pathological hatred - for people profiting on others, and scamming is the ultimate form of that behaviour.

  13. Found this very usefull, thought it seems a little insecure.. just use some strong tape between the retainer and the bezel itself. Here's a screenshot: That's the cheapest way i think. The guy who did it said it worked for months. And after that he just changed the tape for a new one. Phil
