  2. So it seems the factories are picking up on some of the new bteitlings and the latest to get the rep treatment is the good ole steelfish! This time they have brought out a blacksteel steelfish, it sounds like it has been well done, as you would expect from a watch that has been repped as many times as the steelfish has. Correct DLC colour, not the black pvd, dial is perfect as you would expect. Comes on the pro diver, I'm sure there will be a racer deployment available from dealers. All in all it seems to be a winner. What do you guys think!? http://www.ttw-138.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=16_144&products_id=16829 Sent from my SM-G935F using Tapatalk

  3. For me... I could have picked up some nice gens for what I've spent in this hobby, but to me, there's not a lot of fun in doing that. I'd rather spend the time to research a build, understand the history of such a piece, hunt down the parts and see what I can put together with my own hands and tools. I have an appreciation for what I have on my wrist, and I know what went into it. In terms of cost... I think that's all relative, right? I have more than I'd like to admit into my Patek builds, but the amount is a small fraction of what the gens would run me, and that's if I could find examples as clean as the ones I've put together. For me, maybe that's the other facet; building something that's not the most accessible or available in gen form. And sometimes... It's about pushing the limits; to see how close or accurate a build can get. In the end, only you can justify what makes sense, or what doesn't. If it makes you smile every time you check the wrist... If you look back on a build with no regrets... I think it's nothing to worry about Life's short... We should all do what we enjoy doing!

  10. Hi gents! Sorry that I've been gone for so long! Bought a Porsche and have been spending a lot of time on some other forums lately I need to dust off the DSLR (yes, there is literally a 1/4 inch of dust on it) and work on some pics! Been a while... Not sure I even remember how to use the dang thing!

  14. Indeed you guys are very welcome to spend time here while the RWI team fix their issues, I hope you like it here are you are still welcome here once normal service resumes on RWI. The only thing better than belonging to one great forum, is belonging to two?

  15. Hello Peeps!Been floating around w/o much introduction or what not so here's one. Hi. I'm from Singapore. I collect watches. To be frank I'm having post-rwi withdrawal syndromes. It has always been there or RG, and a little on and off rwg (hence the low post count). It's really weird to be the newbie again. Anyways a watch forum will always be a watch forum no matter how the layout or "theme" may differ right?Currently I do have a handful of unmodded and modded watched in my collection and always in the hunt for more - the usual thirst for new blood. Also I am on the fence of whether to start work on a franken black theme/RC or wait for one from m2m. 23. I would use a local bank, rather than try to use and overseas account. Looks better on your credit rating, and it's always good to establish a relationship with locals. Personally, since I live in a rather small town, I have always used a locally owned bank rather than a branch of one of the big boys. All the bank officers are locals for the most part, they tend to stay in one place so I'm not always having to do business with someone new, plus decisions are made locally, and usually are easier and quicker. Coming from the U.K., hope you can survive the Houston summer!! It's HOT!!! Close enough to the gulf to get all the humidity but none of the cooling ocean breeze. Sure is nice in the winter though. 24. Got to be careful with homeowners, read the fine print, they have a pretty low cap on jewelry, watches, art, etc. we keep all my wife's jewelry and a few of my watches in a fireproof safe, but the problem is that doesn't insure loss while away from home. I have all my firearms insured with a rider on my homeowners policy. May have to look into Jewelers Mutual. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

  25. "The way I look at watches like this is you can either build a franken or buy at the top end from a very reputable seller." Yep. I go with option 1. Frankenstein would be the only way to go at current prices. Q...Why? A1...Because I do not trust 'dealers/sellers' no matter what. I have known too many and most of them are slicker'n a newborn maggot. A 2...Because there is no telling where the market will go. A 3...Because we do not know how good the counterfeiters really are. The $130k '100% original and genuine' silly-milly sub sold at auction last year just might be a knockoff and get busted. That would kill the market. Knowing what I know (and it ain't much), I have no doubt whatsoever that it is possible to make brand new 'old' rolex watches today. Just look at how close we can get for $3k or less. How close could we get for $20k or $25k? Prettydamclose is my guess. You take a highly experienced vintage rolex guy with a machine shop and plenty of time (no wife/GF chewing on him 24/7, no cell phone/internet addiction), and he could surely crank out a perfecto case (starting with available offerings) in a month or two that would pass for 45 years old. The remaining hurdles are the dial/hands/bez/insert. No doubt there are 'specialists' somewhere making them too. Probably out west somewhere right now...pizzing on dials to age them in the desert sun.

  26. The way I look at watches like this is you can either build a franken or buy at the top end from a very reputable seller. If you do the former, you have a convincing watch you can wear, the later is a watch I doubt many would be comfortable wearing and buying anywhere else in the market is likely to be paying well over the odds for a franken anyway. Same goes for COMEX subs
