  1. So, here is what is done better explained with a quick sketch of the mod performed. Skecth is just for illustration, it is not a working drawing... The top of the case is shaved slanted: looking at the drawing you will understand why I believe it is the best option. Shaving it flat can't work as we can't modify the inner part of the case on a budget as that would imply very expensive works that would exceed the price of a Vietnam made case. And the point here is to stay around 1/2 the price... Therefore, you can all get now why the retaining ring has to be modified too to sit properly on the case. Here is a case un-mounted, so you can see the shape of the parts. Once it is assembled you can't see at all that slope. That's the trick !!!! Now you know. Enjoy the pics.

  3. I now perfected my technique to thin cases, and that allows me to realize more accurate PCG cases using the regular cartel case!!!!! See: this transformation consisting of shaving the mid-case upper part allows the crown to appear centered. Exit the low crown issue !!!! I recessed the crown tube seat for the crown to be under the bezel, as it should. This also leaves more metal to shape the CG. I could make good Square Crown Guards this way. Two are on the way, we will see the outcome, but I'm pretty confident. Enjoy the pics !!!

  9. A Black Bay is around €2500, so the cost of removing it from the rest of the watch is slightly alarming?

  11. We have both a reasonable knowledge of Islamic texts, but let us not focus on the strict interpretation, instead I think we should understand that the world religions were founded in a past more brutal than the way we would wish to live today. In the Garden of Gethsemane the Disciples were tooled up, something many Christians cheerfully skip over. It doesn't sit well with our modern interpretation of Christianity that these man were not hippies full of love for all mankind or that they were carrying arms in breach of the law. Christianity, Judaism and even Buddhism according to direct scriptural reference advocates and even insists on things we would utterly condemn today. My father is an Orthodox Priest, but I know he would be perfectly happy to be treated by a Jewish doctor, even though he is absolutely forbidden to do so. I also know that his bishop in fact has been treated by a Jewish doctor. Islam I grant is rather more black and white than many religions in scripture, but when and where men decide to "overlook" certain scripture in favour of living as more enlightened members of the modern world community we should do what we can to welcome and encourage it. Such is the only pragmatic course of action.

  12. My thoughts also go out to our victims and their loved ones during this horrid times of grief. Life is just so fragile and one never truly knows when that morrning or evening will be our last one with our loved ones. I speak on the anniversary of my father's passing exactly 3 years ago today. One event that I remember at my mother's funeral some 12 years ago when I noticed something out of the ordinary just as we were leaving the sermon and were making our way into the hall next door for the wake, It wasn't about who was there nor how many people had attended as I did not know half of those that had attended nor would I ever recognise them. It then struck me that I saw a gentleman wearing his kippah, another was a Sikhu Indian and also a Syrian man that I knew was a Muslim that seldom came to have his clothes altered at my mother's Seamstress boutique. I found this event very sorrowful but at the same time very peaceful and also quite bliss. At the wake I saw many of them mingle with each other and saw both the Jewish gentleman and the Syrian gentleman speak with 3 other people while holding their cup of tea/coffee. I asked myself why could this not be in every corner of the globe?? When my mother was single, she had been a volunteer at a church orphange having always had a passion for children where she had also been an au paer both in paid and unpaid work.. I recall as a teenager many years ago, where some people I hardly knew would stop to say hello to mum and it was only after I had asked my mother who they were that I knew the correlation, My mother never saw this event but I damm wished she did because she was all about peace and indoctrinated into her children the same. Bros, please lets cherrish and respect one another as when one thinks about how long we live in comparison to how long we remain dead, we can just about say we never lived!!!

  20. Guys, I feel bad here and I must explain myself: it's not that I don't want to share. As some of you might have guessed I'm very active in restauring genuine Rlx watches, and my clients know my workshop... I can't afford to mix both worlds as I'm pretty sure they won't accept that dark side of mine... And I don't know who's out here on the forum. Taking pictures of my highly recognizable equipment is something I can't do. I am sorry... And I hope you understand.

  22. Nothing but the best news to report. New stem came in the mail as well as the gold plating solution. As some background, when Chris thinned the case, some of the edges were just not plated well. I sent it back to him along with a full bottle of gold solution and he sent it back basically exactly the same and told me he used the entire bottle on the case. I now know that was a lie or he didn't know what he was doing because I plated a nickel, a SS screw and my entire watch with like a thimble full. I started off by plating a nickel. That worked pretty easily. Next I tried a stainless steel screw without the SS activating solution. Absolutely nothing. Dipped the screw in the activation solution and presto. So now it was on to the watch case. Didn't really work at first so I dialed up the voltage to 10V and it worked awesome. (The howto was written by Mikey over on Rep Geek. DIY plating on a budget.). Mine was really on a budget because I just stripped some wire I had laying around to connect everything up. The key is to make sure you use the SS activator and then just play around with the voltage until you see results. Once it started working it made all the edges perfectly gold. Sooo nice. I also used the gold buff solution immediately after each application to make sure I removed any blackness. That stuff really shines up the gold and I will likely use it anytime the watch needs a shine. Here's my not so sophisticated setup: Once the case was absolutely perfect, i reassembled everything, cut the new stem to length, places the crown in the hole and it slid exactly into place. Not sure what happened but maybe removing the glue and compacting everything down helped just enough. Couldn't be happier. She's better than ever!!!!!! Thanks to all who chimed in. She's back baby!!!

  26. Rep gold doesn't hold a candle to gen gold. Its a very obvious difference in color and weight. Good luck affording a gen gold rolex bracelet. You're looking at 4k + for a good condition example… Thats IF you can find one for sale. I would stick to SS rep watches and leave gold to gen.
