  1. I finally got in some 2824 16200 cases, it was a really long wait as they have been unavailable since about Feb of this year! Dimensionally these appear to be the same although the machining tolerances were not as tight as older batches. Progress, right? I snapped some pics of the steps these go through to make 1016 cases although I forgot to take a pic of the rough machined case before drilling any holes. I start out with a plain "vintage" style 16200 case They then spend some time on a little CNC lathe I built and get the tops of the lugs machined to give them a thinner profile. You notice the burr left side of the lug top. All of these burrs have to be removed by hand with a file and sanding. After they come off the lathe they head to the mill where the lug get "ventilated. I set up on the right, drill hole, rotate case 180 degrees and drill another hole. When they are all done I set up on the left and repeat the process for the remainder of the holes. When this is finished I finish de-burring the case, brush the lug tops, and it's ready for either a polished or aged finish. Here is a comparison between the original and re-shaped cases. I hope this sheds a little light on the process.

  6. Ah, welcome to the thread Bart, I’m sure we have enough music heads to keep this thread running and running. You should do a write up on your HiFi as well, I love to read stuff like that.

  7. I have a huge collection of vynil (I started in the early 70's) but I listen to them less and less... Today I listen mainly to CDs via DVD player/ Amp/ Speakers... (small size bookshelf...) I've been the "Stanton-Thorens-Marantz-AR" geek but no more... When I have some new name/album to check I look for help on YouTube... then if the album is good I buy the CD on eBay (often at a very low cost...)

  10. Hello and welcome, ok so the only advise is perhaps purchase a cheap set of casebAck removers off ebay and once you've removed the caseback then apply a SMALL amount of gasket grease(the stuff you use on the rubber waterproof gaskets) to the small ball bearings on the rotor. Try to remove any access grease with a bit of cloth. Bottom line I'm afraid is that you will never get rid of the clicking sound on this PARTICULAR movement, my suggestion is try and find the model of your dreams with a better movement, if your a Rolex fan then the SH3135 is as quiet as you will get because the rotor is on a jewel rather than bearings as per gen. Hope that helps Cheers DH

  12. Presious has landed in Sunny (!!!) Cornwall. We have friends staying at the moment so are showing them a few of the tourist sites. Firstly, Mousehole - a quaint little Cornish fishing village, named so because a local cave looks like a errrrr mouse hole....... A short drive to Porthcurno followed. A bit of history here as it's where the first transatlantic communication cable came ashore - right in the middle of the beach. Allowing telephone calls between Europe and the USA. These photos were taken by the Minack open air theatre - cut directly into the cliff. Onwards to Lands End. The most Southwesterly point of mainland UK. Not too much to see here because of the vast amounts of the Cornish liquid sunshine falling from the sky. If if I get a chance I'll take a few more before it wings its way north to ....... A nice thought would be to keep a running total of the distance the watch covers. So far the estimate is: China to MOAB about 8000 miles MOAB to Sogeha approx 3125 miles Sogeha to Kernow about 900 miles Kernow to Nikki6 gestimated at 512 miles

  13. Just make sure you are sitting down and in a private place when you do. I was in fits of laughter, this thing is hideous. Also it is virtually impossible to tell what time it is because the dial is busy and dark, as are the hands. My six year old daughter thinks it is wonderful and wore it while watching Barbie - tells you all you need to know really
