  1. No, not that modern crap. I picked this dial up years and years ago for no good reason as the only bidder on eBay from a seller in Japan for pennies. I then found the midcase and bezel a few years later by chance from a seller in Australia for cheap and the project was on. The case is not branded, but it is probably a Waltham, or similar. I do believe it is the correct case (there are a bunch of slight variants on this deep diver case). I added an AS 1701 movement (still need the black date disc) and a sterile but otherwise correct case back. It probably had the brand polished away at some point so that there is just a faint serial number left. I also bought the correct handset on eBay for just $30. Found it on my very first search! But these are not those hands. The seller must have gotten another offer and magically "lost" them. Quite disappointing. So, here we have something that is close enough for now. The good news is that there are pictures of this watch on the internet with at least half a dozen hand sets, so either it came that way or the hands were replaced over the years. I would still like to find what I believe are the officially correct hands. I still need the correct case back, or to get mine engraved. That will be tough, so I'll probably stick with the sterile back. I did find a Blancpain case back for the 34mm version for sale awhile back, but at $700 it was more than I have in the whole project by a good margin. Cheers!

  2. MQ has a fat font with serif that looks not bad to me. Unfortunately he ask +200€ for it and it’s a bit hard to deal with him. He will try to send you another insert than the one you ordered based on his website pics. It’s pricey for an aftermarket but far less than gen fat fonts insert.

  3. Any updates with the results??? I am very curious as I wasn't in particularly lucky with mine. I purchased one from a reputable dealer (source not disclosed as he is a good dealer) and when it arrived it seemed like a nice fresh clean movement that seems to be a good economical substitute for the real McCoy. I went for and paid more for it than the usual ones as this was regarded as a better quality one than ones sold mainstream. Advertising marketing jargon as they say!!! When I replaced the dial I had problems getting the feet to latch on. I thought that the feet had bent but trying it on the genuine movement they fitted in without any problems. Upon trying on the clone again I had problems and had to juggle the dial to slightly bend on of the feet to fit it on. I fitted it into the case and noticed that the keyless works were rough as guts. The stem would not set properly with time setting and also with rapid date change. The new stem needed to be recut to fit the crown. This is where it gets better. I put the stem in time setting position as I have done since the beginning of time and removed the stem. Upon resizing the stem, I place it in and the winder is stuck in the calendar position. Yes, you guessed it, the yoke slipped out of place even in the mythical magical position that everyone swears by to avoid readjusting your keyless works. My biggest fears were realised when I had to remove the dial again after a painful ordeal of fitting it on. Upon adjusting the keyless works and resetting the datewheel on, it kept on falling off. I removed the DWO to see what the problem was. The jumper spring was damaged. Don't know how that happened but may be it was already faulty. Don't' know??? Maybe I did it when putting it on. I removed one off the dead original and fitted everything back on. Fingers crossed!!!! Casing the movement and trying to set the time, the hands fell off. Remove the movement again and I notice that the dial feet had broken off. I now know I was at a huge loss, so I dismantled both movements for my curiously and noticed that the feet holes in the clone were slightly off. Incidentally the clone was also dry in many places without oil so it would have stopped after 6 months anyway. Now this is not the first time I have done this as the other dozen times it all went smooth with a genuine eta. The time I spent on this I could have worked it as overtime at work and bought myself 3 genuine movements. There is much debate that the clones are becoming indistinguishable from the genuine but that is a myth because you can see the roughness of the clones and you develop an eye for it. Will I buy another clone again??? You guessed it!!!. Will you put your hand in the fire twice? I can guess that one too!!! Just my experience with my clone movement

  4. You got a face, a name and address now bro. But if you want to get him personally, I think there is a queue forming now. This debacle will continue, and the seller will come on and post his side of the story soon.

  17. The replica daytonas with full working chronos are too thick, and the movement used in them is a lot less reliable. The ARF ones have chronos that work partially (up to 60 seconds), and the correct thickness, or at least one which is much closer vs gen. The movement, though not as reliable as say, the A2824 or 2836, is still more reliable than the modified A7750 sec@6 with full working chrono. I agree with @themannier though, the non working chronos are not issues at all. Let's face it, chronograph functions on watches these days are 99% unused and serve more as decoration, adding complication to the dial. I hardly even touch the chronos on my gen daytonas. In this hobby, it is often that we make decisions about what we can live with, and what we cannot. For me personally I will rather have the correct thickness, a more reliable movement, and I can live without working chronograph. You have to make your own decision about your preference though.
