"Why would you want to downgrade a 1570 to a 1520?" Pretty good question. For me...I did not have a spare 1520 so I went for a '5512' project with a 1570 rather than a '5513' project with a 1520. "How easy is it to convert a Rolex cal. 1570 with date parts (from an oyster perpetual) for use as a 5513 cal 1520 movement? " Complete no date 1570 and 1520 movements are interchangeable. They are basically the same except for escapements. The 1520 has a flat hairspring and the 1570 has a Breguet overcoil HS. They are easy to tell apart after the differences have been pointed out so a 1570 in a 5513/AK etc would stick out if anyone was looking closely. Converting a 1570/75 date movement to a no date to use in place of a 1520...remove all date parts and calendar spacer. Install 1520 center wheel with canon pinion and hour wheel (lowers hands). Casing dimensions are different for 15xx date and no date movements...no date movements have stems closer to the front of the watch because of no date works. Mainplates etc are the same size, the calendar parts and calendar spacer make the difference and this is why the center wheel, CP, and hour wheel are different. The sweep second pinion is the same for them all, the difference is in the second hand tube. Btw...a no hack 15xx movement can not be readily converted to a hacking movement. There is a groove machined in the hack movement mainplate for the hack lever. A hacking movement can be converted to a no hack movement by removing the hack parts.2 points

Yes. Game over for me. These projects were started in 2005 and have now 12 years in the making. Results can't get better than this. Investments were serious in time, sourcing, mod and a gathering of skills, not only mine (thank you Stephan, thank you Gordon, thank you Ross). 6152, with old eb. Cortebert / Rolex, cal. 618 (among other special features as a 1/1 double bezel custom made etc..) 3646, with old eb. Cortebert / Rolex, cal. 616 2533, Idem Photos are crappy, but I am not very good at it. After all these years the irony is, I find each one of them huge and less and less wrist time. I am considering to let go of the 3646 for a grail vintage Phong Blancpain FF no rad dial. In the meantime enjoy and Merry Christmas to all. A big cheers to all the mod pioneers that shared along the way and to the friends I made here from 2004 on.1 point

Hey folks, it's been a while since my last post here. But back I am and while I was strolling through my watch pics a few days ago I thought it could be nice to have a thread where I (and you of course...feel free to comment and/or participate) post a pic of one of my watches and a short story about it. I bet I'm not the only who can tell a short (or sometimes a longer) story to the watches one has and had. So for the first watch/day I start with the watch I think I miss most of the ones I had... A Seiko "The great blue perpetual SLT063P1". The first time I saw that watch I was immediately amazed of the blue. It changes with every angle from a very blueish blue to dark grey and from some angles almost black. But when I had it on my wrist it felt wayyyy to small for me so after only a few hours I sold her. Few month later my liking turned to smaller watches and I realized that "The great blue" was the ideal watch for me, so I tried to find one. But...they were rare as hens teeth and still are. After an almost endless search I found one in an unbelievable mint condition. But silly me sold her again a year later or so...thought my "Seikotime" was over and I was building an Omega collection...well...silly young me... I'd love to hear about your watches...and to see of course1 point

You know we all started right where you are now. I well remember thinking I would never work out what the hell guys were talking about, then slowly bit by bit I understood more. Believe me there are guys here who know more than I ever will and I still take advice all the time. That I should what the forum is for. 99.9% of the people you meet won’t even notice your watch. Of those that do, most could tell. I have a $20 fake Rolex with a quartz movement I wear for gardening and mucking out the horses. I love it, it is a complete POS and nothing like a real Sub, but you know what? Most people including my girlfriend can’t tell the difference. There are diffences, often in movement, you might notice the cheapest is a 21 jewel movement. Which is a cheap generic Chinese movement, next up is maybe a Miyota clone, then an ETA clone, finally a Rolex clone. Very generally speaking you get what you pay for and the fit and finish will also be proportional to the price.1 point

Yepp...you are right...love that story. Do you still have that watch? My watch of the day today is (or better are) my gen Omega Big Pumpkin and her black sister (sold). Usually I'm not that deep into "colorful" watches but when I saw the Big Pumpkin for sale back in 2009 I felt the urge to get it. I traded ( 'nother silly me story...coming up tomorrow) my Tudor 79260 for it and the day I got it felt like this watch was just made for me. It was the first time since 10 years that I wore a watch every day no matter if she fits the colors of my dress. And so it happened that I still wore that Pumpkin when my second son (third child of four) was born. So this watch is meant to be the watch my son is getting from me once I feel he's mature enough for it (I have watches for my other kids too).1 point

@Mike on a bike , I've tried twice to upgrade to VIP through the rwg.cc/store link. It keeps telling me my display name and email address is in use by another member and will not let me complete the transaction. If you can provide me with a link where I can easily upgrade then I would be more than happy to.1 point

Unfortunately this is one of the many disadvantages of the internet. People can disappear out of ones life for all sorts of valid reasons! Some go out if business, some retire, some even become seriously ill and worse still some even pass away and in this case we have no way of knowing? I myself have lost contact with lovely people I have befriended all over the world from different interests etc. I know some of these are deceased and there would have been nobody outside their contact to inform me? An example was an 87 year old I knew from the lung cancer forum and not receiving news in nearly 15 years gives me one conclusion as our last conversation was a very nice and memorable one!1 point

@Mike on a bike last time I tried to upgrade it wouldn't let me, it said "This product has already been purchased" or something to that effect. Any ideas? That might be what's stalling out some of the others...perhaps? (Glass half full)1 point
