  1. Hello guys, I plan to make case kit for the first Submariner Rolex 6204 using the gen 6204 case that I just acquired. Case will be made in gen specs that will accept Rolex Cal. A260 Movement, but will add eta adapter for it. Case kit will contain : —————————— - Complete midcase with caseback and gasket - 5.3mm brevet Crown with tube - Complete bezel assembly - Tropic 16 plexi - 6204 pencil hands (option for A260 and ETA movement) - ETA movement adapter Please tell me what do you guys think. If have interest enough I will open the pre-order and also will run the batch only once since we need to honor this beauty. 6204 case is bottom one, above is 6536/1. 2. "Remember my old adage about "save your money and wait for the one you REALLY want to come along, instead of buying a crapload of watches that are almost good enough?" That is very good advice. I have just about stopped looking for 'grails' but will jump on one if the price is right. A few examples: Wanted an Aquadive 200M cushion case diver and did not want to pay the $$ for a reissue and could not find an original at a reasonable price so I put it on the back burner. A few months later I ran upon a genuine vintage example in very good condition...for $35 (thirty five bucks). Wanted a stainless 1970s Hamilton military issue watch. None around here and too much $$ on eBay etc so I waited. Found one later at the local flea market and traded into it for $0. It came with a 7 jewel Durowe movement with plastic balance bearings (!) so I bought a $25 eBay watch with a 17 jewel Durowe movement and I'll end up with about $50 in it counting a new crystal and strap. Wanted an all original Accutron 214 Astronaut but would not pay current prices and there is a lot of junk out there anyway so I waited...and waited. I put a friend on an (unseen by me) pocket watch/wristwatch collection and it had a 90% condition 214 Astronaut with the original coffin bracelet mixed in with the others along with a '666' Accutron 218 'Devil Diver'. He bought it all and gave me the Astro and '666'. Believe me...it does not work out like this very often. Otoh if I pay a lot of $$ for a 'grail' watch, it does not make it any more of a 'keeper' even after wanting one for a long time. As soon as I get it...the 'gotta have it' feeling is gone and it is just another dumb watch. Why is that? Because when I pay a high price for a 'useless' item it can tend to breed contempt for the item, especially if I find one later for two thirds the price or try to sell it and the prices have done a 100M Deep Dive. The four examples above are exceptions to the 'useless item theory' because I got what I wanted for very little $$. Imho and experience. YMMV

  4. I recently bought a Maranez Samui steel dive watch here: https://www.maranez.com/watches.php#!/Samui-steel I was looking for something that reminded me of a Doxa with the "Project Aware" turquoise blue dial. This looked the part so I gave it a try. Price was $349 and that included FedEx shipping worldwide! Wow, that's Big Boys territory. So how did it work out? The watch arrived in days, not weeks, and it was much much more than I'd hoped for. Yes, it's a direct ripoff of the Doxa cushion case. Yes, the dial screams "Doxa" from every angle. So let's think of this as a Doxa on steroids. Granted I'm used to the thin 60s Doxas so this thing's heft might not seem as dramatic to the rest of the world. But Jesus Joseph and Mary this thing's a brick. Solid. Carved from the center of the Sun then machined to satiny smoothness. It has the required cushion case and tophat bezel, with a low profile caseback to keep the height down. It has a massive 11mm screwdown crown WAY bigger than any Doxa that went before, that looks perfectly proportioned. Kneel before the king, Rolex "Big Crowns", this thing has you beat by another 50%. The flat sapphire crystal is AR coated on the inside and produces wicked cool blue reflections on the wall. The bezel doesn't rip off Doxa to the point it has USN dive tables engraved on it, but it's plenty useful for timing a dive if you know what you're doing. Inside lives a nearly indestructible Seiko NH35 movement, and if you do manage to break it, a replacement can be had cheap from 100 sources. It autowinds silently and comes on a nicely formed thick rubber strap with lots of length but no vanilla scent. What more can a guy ask for? Give Maranez a look, if you can catch them when they have inventory available to be shipped. People are figuring them out, and they sell quickly.

  5. My first Zero to Hero Watch was the Bulova Accutron 214/218 back in its day. The Hamilton Electric's reputation scared many away from batt watches so my expectations started out at zero. Present day Zero to Hero is the Accutron II. Did not care for them until I bought a couple at deep discounts on eBay when they were discontinued. I am Ok with them being owned by Citizen, they are a good outfit. My Hero to Zero brand is rolex (NPFY), therefore I have no swiss watch heroes. Btw...our rlx, pam, omeg, etc forum watches are mostly china made, not swiss made so I can like them if I want to. Ha! I post mostly about rlx because I have traded/worked on them and there is a lot of interest in rlx on RWG.

  6. Panerai here too. When I was buying my first "real watch" I made a point to check out all the major brands. My visit to the Panerai site lasted about two seconds accompanied by a brief expletive 🤢. Now my 009, 036, 040, and 212 reps are among my favorites.

  7. I do love a nice Speedy but only have 1 compared to many Seamasters. I think that the incorrect subdial spacing on the Speedy reps puts me off.
