  1. Getting Josh to do 'parts' is a little like pulling teeth, sometimes necessary but the process is painful and you feel a little sore afterwards. What's he quoted you for the bracelet? PM me if needs be. Thanks.
  2. I'd like to get the bracelet (mine's on rubber) but finding it difficult to source it as spare, couple of dealers have said can't get hold of. If anyone can point me in the right direction, I'd be very grateful
  3. Quite. I admit I'm disappointed to be proved right about them just using a pic and not even attempting the Ti-N-C process nor sourcing a gen to colour-match, but I'm quietly confident the V2 version will be much better.
  4. Not over this side of La Manche it's not. Dammit I've spent the best part of the summer shuttling across to Paris and back, and now I'm not this is out. Any chance you could pick one up for me? I'd happily pay you 'generous' postage. Shoot me a PM if you're willing, as one doc to another And as for apnoea for 14 mins..... http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/magazine/4964488.stm "The current record stands at eight minutes, 58 seconds, but freedivers have held their breath for up to 15 minutes by breathing in pure oxygen. That is how the BFA believes Blaine will pull off his stunt."

  6. So will you be welching on that bet Jake? Or shifting the goalposts and bleating about seeing the watch in person? I think we've put that issue to bed now hopefully.
  7. You could be right, but the DeepSea will sell by the bucketload. If you want an heirloom for your kids and grandkids, you'd be better looking at some model, like the 1655 or Milgauss previously, that sells in the region of 32 units a year worldwide
  8. Actually I have to disagree strongly there - I'd say it's very much the classic Rolex sports look. The YM and YM II, the 'Gaytonas' etc. these are ostentatious, whereas the SDDS is merely a modern take on a hard core technology-loaded tool watch.
  9. The Aquagraph is a gorgeous beast, and to be honest, I much prefer it over the DS, intriguing though the Rolex is. Maybe I should just get the 'Graph relumed in blue, save myself a few grand
  10. I'm not sure where all this 'bracelet out of proportion to the bracelet' is coming from. When you've had one on your wrist then you can judge. As a comparison, here's a wrist shot of an equally chunky divers watch on SS bracelet, one that wears it well...
  11. Perosnally I love grey or anthracite dials. On the Skyland, aside from the versatility and less-common attributes, I think the grey dial allows the numeral markers to stand out a little more, their black-painted outlines providing a look similar to a drop-shadow. If I cave in and buy one of these shaving mirrors, I'll go for the grey no doubt whatsoever.
  12. Not the only one. Aside from the promo shot of course. I sense that a real world lume shot will be the dealmaker for some, me included. But still the overall heft of this beast appeals to my aesthetic senses, I don't know why but it just does. Bear in mind though that according to an AD pal of mine who's had it on his wrist, there is an issue with the lugs "hanging air" - sits high due to caseback and chunkiness of case means its not the most comfortable wear if you have average or smaller wrists. Not anywhere as near as comfy as the 116710.
  13. Me love the 1655 long long time Sad Doc has no 1655 though
  14. That makes it 0900 for us GMT folks (we're on BST right now ) May see about working from home that week - perfect breakfast viewing
  15. What's that in GMT or CET? 0800? Ah a nice early morning wake up call
  16. I seem to have a new-found respect appreciation for the committment, hard work and discipline required for synchronised swimming I'll second Andy's request. When it's on again?
  17. The Apnea is a great model, one of my favourites. It's basically a 14 minute timer using a rotating red disc which "fills up" those holes in the dial, used to time a dive, specifically a freedive (no artificial underwater breathing apparatus). Name is derived from the medical term "apnoea" (British spelling ), which describes an unfortunate condition where you temporarily stop breathing (common amongst snorers or if you're brought out of a general anaesthetic). Not usually a big fan of white dial watches but I'll make an exception for this baby (much nicer than the black dial IMO)
  18. Thanks all, will give it some more thought (and research)
  19. It's all me me me isn't it? Explain to me how you think you'll be able to hear from someone with the rep (and gen) when the rep hasn't been released yet? So should we just lock this thread until it's out, just to please you? This place doesn't serve to provide you with real world information nor should we have to bend over backwards to accommodate your precious sensibilities on what we can and can't comment on. As for your admiration for Neil's insults, you're right, he'd have ripped you a new one for living up to a certain stereotype.
  20. I think that's a very rational and probable assessment all round.
  21. Juicy - if it's soft-feeling it's probably got a little silicone mixed in with the rubber. One glaring thing I noticed was that the gen has a standard Ti caseback, unlike the PVD front - gives a nice two-tone appearance. See? ... Couldn't be a more obvious flaw with the all-black rep you'd think, right? ... But then, what is this I see??? A "V2" updated version also from Josh, offered side-by-side....hurrah!
  22. You just can't help yourself having a dig at me can you? Even when Mickey also calls your comments for what they are. The caseback in the photos IS "shitty" compared to the gen, it's not even close in accuracy around the LE and serial markings. No trick of the light there, or dodgy angle. In this instance, the photos do not lie. The case coating is a less definitive matter, but not helped by the (and I'll use the word again if it's alright with you) "shitty" photos Joshua's brother-in-law or whomever, takes. Black against black background? Lots of image contrast and other tweaking? Not good. But it's also clear that the coating on the case is also not right. I know for a fact that even Breitling found this treatment difficult to reproduce and initially there were a lot of QC rejects, and initial production (the first 100 or so serial) were slow off the factory line (was also around this time that they switched the subdials to the half-in-half tuxedo finish). So expecting the V1 maker to be able to match something accurately without a gen to compare directly with, or the exact specs, is a bit naiive. And the photos, whatever you say, tell that story clearly. It looks the very same bog-standard black PVD-type coating we've seen on many a rep, most recently as a brushed finish alternative on the "ceramic" Black Seal. The Skyland Black Steel (hmmm, SBS is quite a fitting acronym, although that's slightly heretical given the 5517 Sub) looks very different to this PVD look, that's all. Where you see pointless "speculation", we see an opportunity to voice concerns in an attempt to correct flaws at the prototype stage (as seems to be happening here maybe). Perhaps you may consider that if we "reserve comments until the watch is out" and it turns out to have annoying but significant flaws, then that's a little like closing the stable door after the horse has bolted. If we all stopped "speculating" and left things to your ilk, we'd probably be sitting here wearing "shitty" Submariners with rehauts you could stir-fry in, and CGs that you could plough a field with.
  23. Thanks for all the input guys, appreciated! Kruzer - do you have a link for totaal? thanks Dluddy - been a while since I bought from Drew, always wanted a black/copper shell cordovan for my 217 but he discontinued - may have another lookie there though Slay - ah yes MF, had a 1942 back in the day but sold it. Having a peruse through their site now. To clarify, I prefer something classic, contrast-stitched, nicely thick, aged but not distressed or faded, a nice deep rich dark brown colour, not as easy as one would expect.
  24. Looking for another 26/26, something along the lines of the papya brown MP-XI I already own, both in colour and quality/feel, but ever so slightly different if that's possible. Predominantly for a 187 but would like to equally work on my MP-sporting 217 if possible. All input (with links or pics) appreciated. Thanks!
