  1. That's a nice looking SFSO. The AR looks fantastic. Is that the v2 or a modded v1?
  2. That's really bizarre. I guess you'll know soon enough what it is. Be sure to post some pics when that box arrives!
  3. That's a seriously big watch. Definitely skirts the line between timepiece and diving ballast! I've never seen one posted here, but I'm keen to see it. Be sure to post some pics if you get it!
  4. I had to chuckle when I saw that he's been lurking for 3 years and that these were his only two posts. A flash of brilliance after a long wait...
  5. Congrats! That's an awesome looking looking sub. TC does incredible work.
  6. Mike, you'll never know how many of us live vicariously through your posts and pics. Keep'em comin! Myself, I've got 2 kids under the age of 4 and a son due in November, so I'm on a strict 2 watch a year diet. A two watch a week pace is almost two awesome to contemplate! As a watch enthusiast, and an angler I admire your catch and release ethos. That said, I can't believe you let the TC sub go. You might look back on that one as "the one that got away"!
  7. Although it's definitely not my area of expertise, there are quite a few posts on this forum about movement swap surgeries. The ETA clone movements die pretty frequently, so it's something many folks have had to do. If you had a ETA in the watch, a new ETA should be relatively easy for to swap in. If you can't find a watchmaker who is able to solve the issue, it's an option worth exploring. But like I said, I'm no watchmaker, there are much more qualified members on the forum better equipped to answer the question.
  8. @abat: Hmmm. You're either a gigolo or a management consultant. I'm guessing the latter, but you never know... If the latter, greetings from a recovering management consultant!
  9. Can't beat the price for a new movement. It should only be $20-$30 and are easy to source on the interwebs. Now if a gen Rolex movement goes wonky on you...
  10. "German really!? and yes! Montblanc is a brand that woman easily spot!! I think many of them love this style brand!" Well, it may have been born in Germany, and originally manufactured in Switzerland by a South African owned firm, but by god it was the Chinese who brought it to the masses BTW, if anyone ever finds this thing still for sale in some dust bin of our trusted dealers let me know. I might buy a couple for spares
  11. Worst case scenario, you can always buy a Gen ETA movement for $150 or so and swap out the bad one. Not a great outcome, but at least you're not totally without options. Gen ETA's are relatively easy to source if it comes to that.
  12. Those Hasselbald pics are a little too convenient. What are the odds that ww12345 would have those pics at the ready, and the have in-depth knowledge of the camera's functionality to undermine Ipcress's evidence of a fake lunar landing? I'm beginning to suspect that ww12345 was planted by New World Order into this very forum 3 years and 5 months ago precisely to keep the rest of us sheeple in the dark when Ipcress arrived to educate us. And a particle physicist suddenly pops up out of the blue as well? Too convenient indeed. WAKE UP SHEEPLE!!! <end sarcasm>
  13. Great pics. That is truly an amazing watch!
  14. The quartersawn piece (on the bottom row, third from left) has incredible grain and medullary ray flecks. You should charge him quadruple for that one! Better yet, I'll drop by and put it into a fine piece of furniture where it might be more at home.
  15. I saw Lanikai post pics of it on a wrist check thread a few years back and I bought one from Silix shortly thereafter. I think it was the sleeper rep of 2010. I've gotten more comments/compliments on this rep from normal everyday people than the rest of the reps that I own combined. Women in particular seem to love this watch. It's not a super-rep because there are small deviations vs the gen, but it's the most gen-like rep I've ever had if that makes any sense. It blows my Omega PO v4 and Breitling SFSO out of the water. The fit and finish is incredible. The other bonus is that it's so obscure, no one has ever seen a real one in person, and the fit and finish is so good it would never occur to anyone that it wasn't a gen. I actually wear this watch to most trials and negotiations. It's my good luck charm. I wrote a full review of it entitled "Montblanc Sport Chrono: Sino-German Underdog Extraordinaire" back in 2010: http://www.rwgforum.net/topic/113487-review-montblanc-sport-chronograph/?hl=%2Bmontblanc+%2Bsport+%2Bchrono
  16. I'm wearing my favorite Rep of all time: The Montblanc sport chrono:
  17. Welcome to the forum. Congrats on the gen; that's a truly spectacular watch. Sounds like you got a decent rep as well (especially given the $18,000 vs $278 price difference). Let me be the first to lend my voice to inevitable chorus pleading: "Rep vs Gen Pictorial Review!!!"
  18. Deathy afraid of frankens. I've seen some of the work that our talented members produce. Some of watches they create are simply amazing. I'd love to see a competition where Nanuq or one of our other talented members gets a TC v6 sub, and a $1,500 modding budget, and a Rolex expert gets the finished product and a gen sub for comparison and serves as judge. The rules would be that the judge wins $5,000 if he identifies the gen, pays $5,000 if he guesses wrong, and gets $500 if he admits he's not sure (no opening casebacks of course). I'm guessing that the outcome would be that the judge walks away with $500 and new perspective on frankenreps! If I had $6,500 that I didn't need, I'd sponser that contest. Ultimately, that's the game anyone is playing when they buy a used Rolex in a private party sale. Since I don't have the coin to risk it, I won't buy a used gen watch unless it's from a jeweler, or from a 3rd party that's agreed to have it "inspected" by a jeweler/watchmaker locally. That said, I'm not a rolex expert. There are plenty of guys on here who know enough about Rolex's to take the risk, but I'm sure not one of them.
  19. I'm procrastinating. There is no better place to do it! Nice mouldings by the way. Do you guys produce them in house?
  20. It's not every forum that has particle physicists and vintage camera afficionados at the ready, that's for sure
  21. That's a lousy feeling. On the bright side, if it was a gen, you'd be out $6k. That's one of the wonderful things about reps! My daily beater is an Omega PO that I've treated horribly. I swim with it, wear it doing remodeling work, built a stonewall while wearing it, etc. It's so scratched up now it looks terrible. But on the bright side, it cost me $225 and those lovely Omega LMPO's are calling my name! Still it's lousy to lose a watch you love. Hope you find it. If not, you should drown your sorrow in a new Cartier or Rolex to ease the pain until it turns up in some small pocket you didn't realize was in your luggage...
  22. Nice diamond chrono. If you don't mind the larger watches, you're going to be spoiled for choice here. I'm thinking of buying my wife a Cartier Ballon Bleu rep that looks pretty nice. It's a larger larger watch than what she typically wears though so I'm not sure if she'll like it.
  23. Welcome to the forum. You've come to the right place if you're in market for some top notch reps! The trusted dealers here are about as good as it gets in the rep world.
  24. It's the gift that keeps right on giving. It's like front row seat to a half-wit Troll exhibit. Everybody get's a bucket of peanuts with their ticket stub, and people just can't help feeding trolls
