I'd vote for a nice Steelfish Superocean v2. I think I'll be buying one myself pretty soon. I bought a SFSO v1 back in 2010, and I was blown away by it. At the time it was considered one of the best reps ever produced. The consensus is that the new version blows the old one out of the water, so it must be pretty incredible. I can't wait to get my hands on one.

Either way, it's a real bummer. Nothing worse than non-fitting parts!

How Hard is upgrading Movement in a Explorer II 40mm Rep?
dovo1695 replied to JJPanerai's topic in The Rolex Area
90% of people don't know what an automatic watch is. 9.9% of people know what an automatic watch is but don't know the different movements. .099% of people know the different movements and might notice the difference if they had the gen vs the rep side by side. .001% of people would notice the second hand speed without a gen beside and know it to be a rep. The good news is that .001% of people are either watchmakers or members of this site! It's a cool rep that you picked up for next to nothing, enjoy it! That's my 2 cents anyway -
As a general rule, I'd say it's best to avoid precious metals in a first rep. They are often disappointing. That said, if it's gotta be rose gold, then go for it, you'll find better reps here from the trusted dealers than you will elsewhere on the web. If you can settle for stainless steel, you can get better reps. There was a post recently about super reps for ladies that should be easy to find with the search function. The cartier Ballon Bleu is fine rep at a similar pricepoint. Not trying to discourage you, I just want to give you a heads up. Best of luck!

It's a damn nice looking watch either way. For 6k though I'm pretty sure I could fill a watch box or two with amazing reps that don't have an alarm problem!
-
Well, if they send you junk, or nothing at all, in the very least, you now know exactly where to look for the good stuff. Best of luck!

The last one looks gen for sure, but even the first one looks pretty damn good despite it's flaws. I'd hate to try to buy a used a Gen SD these days if it wasn't directly from a jeweler.

How Hard is upgrading Movement in a Explorer II 40mm Rep?

+1 it won't work. You're best bet is to sell it, and use the proceeds to get yourself an asian ETA clone and wait for it to stop ticking. You might be surprised how long it takes though. I have Asian ETA's that are still keeping excellent time after 4 years! -
After a long hiatus, I have the rep itch again. I've been looking at the SFSO v2 and the LMPO. I love both watches, both look like outstanding reps, and it's hard to choose. I think it's going to come down to the lume. I did a review of the SFSO v1 Asian vs the SFSO v1 Swiss back in 2010 and I was pretty impressed by both watches back then and it sounds like the SOSF v2 significantly improves over v1, which was already deemed a "super rep" at the time. The v1 SFSO's weak point back then was the lume. I've heard the new v2 SFSO lume is fantastic right out of the box. I have a 42mm PO that I bought in 2010 from Narikka, which was nicknamed the POrikka and was the best available PO at the time. I think it was a v4, and Narikka was the first to carry them. It's a pretty decent rep, and has been my daily beater for 4 years. It's been beat half to death though, and although it's still keeping perfect time, the crystal is pretty badly scratched, and the lume has turned a sickly shade of yellow. The lume "luminosity" was pretty lousy out of the box, and it always annoyed me. Time for a new one perhaps. I've heard that the new LMPO is incredible. I think it was voted RWI rep of the year at the end of last year. That says a lot! What I haven't heard much about is the lume. I'd like to avoid having to send it out for reluming, so I'm wondering how good the lume is right out of the box. So my question is, is the LMPO lume on par with the new SFSO v2 lume?. Put differently, is the LMPO lume good enough to pass for gen? I'm going to buy either SFSO v2 or the LMPO, and I think the lume will be the deciding factor. Thanks in advance!

I haven't seen a review or posting about these either. The display caseback is a bit of a bummer, but if it really is an actual titanium bracelet and case, that more than makes up for it in my book. The price is good enough that I'm sorely tempted if it's really Ti. TrustyTime has it too with more pics and a short QC vid. Who's got one?

Nice tip. It is amazing how much grime there is in bracelets, even right out of the box!

Wow. Fantastic work. That's a keeper for sure!

That brightz chrono is a looker. -
That's a bummer for sure. You've come to the right place though. I'm sure it's a fixable problem.

Enjoy the forum. You've come to the right place!

Incredible. You've done some fine work for sure.

Looks like a pretty nice rep. I do love the Carrerra. Here is a link to the PT watch with white dial and a7750 that GenTle very helpfully pointed out for you. http://www.puretime-...bracelet-a7750/ Here is a link to the corresponding pics of the Gen: http://www.fashioncraz.com/carrera-calibre-1887-watches/ Not perfect certainly. But only one in 100 people you show it to will have any idea what the gen movement should look like. The rep is a beautiful watch that's bound to get compliments either way.

Great bracelet for a very reasonable price. I suspect we'll be seeing some more of these in the near future. Thanks for posting!

Worth the wait, and the work! Looks incredible. More pics!

I didn't mean to discourage you with the post above. Anything is possible with enough money, patience, and the right relationships (modders!). There are guys on this forum who rebuild watch movements, regrind crown guards, and have custom parts commissioned. I've seen many frankenreps on this forum that have more gen parts than rep parts. Absolutely anything is possible here. My point is that in rep collecting, as with anything else, it pays to start with the basics and learn the ropes. You can absolutely get a fantastic carrerra with a display caseback, but you might need to do some pretty advanced stuff to pull it off. I just wanted to caution you above regarding the display caseback, because it might be tricky to get an exceptional rep right off the shelf. Take a look at today's (june 25th) wristcheck. A member here posted a really nice exhibition back Carrera. Looks like he may have done a rotor transplant with a gen rotor. The member might be willing to tell you a little more. Before you reach out to him though, I suggest you do your homework. Veteran members really appreciate and respect it when you do that. Go to the dealer section of this forum and look at what is available off the shelf. It may be that you can get exactly what you're looking for. You can also use the search function to see if the member has posted a short blog about the watch, you might learn exactly how he did the rotor swap. Once you understand everything you can using the search function and have browsed the dealer section, reach out to the member to see if he can tell you more. If you've done your homework, there's a good chance that he will. This is a great bunch of guys who really love watches. The next step, once you've figured all of this out, is to post a short write-up of where you got the watch, who helped you, what mods you made, what problems you ran into, and how you solved those problems. Now the whole community will have the benefit of your experience, and you'll be a full fledged member. The more useful posts you make, the better known you will be, and the more willing the high end modders will be willing to work with you! Alternatively, you can probably buy a decent example off the shelf from one of the trusted dealers here and wear it for months before the date font starts to irritate you, and then start the process above. Either way, welcome to the forum and best of luck!

Be careful with the exhibition casebacks. If you're really picky with your watches, an exhibition back is generally a bad idea unless you can source a gen movement. Lots of the low end exhibition case back watches have terrible Asian eta clone movements that aren't even close to the original. Just a heads up. Nice choice by the way; the Carrera is a lovely watch.

Remember kids, always read 20 - 30 prior posts that a member has posted before you do a member to member transaction. Most people here are nice. A few are absolutely batshit crazy. The clues are often subtle, but if you look carefully enough you will find them.

Are there worthy Women's Rep Watches out there?

I hadn't seen the ladymatic before. Looks pretty good. Wish I could find a white dial version.
