i have ended up servicing nearly all my eta reps over the past year. i must admit not on a preventative basis;
they ususally break down. some even have come DOA. i used to be [censored] off but i have factored in about $100
to these purchases. for example- $220 rollie DJ= $330. still not bad when then gen is $5500
i think there can develop a certain amount of obsessiveness with our hobby. certainly many people would think
its a waste of their time spending hours on end worrying about the state of the crown guards on the 33rd sub they bought.
like anything i believe moderation is a useful guide. (too bad i lost that awhile ago with my 51 watches!)
i think our hobby can affect our friends & family if we spend too much time here at their expense (guilty again).
it can end up being a kind of escape if we are not relating to those around us. yet at the end of the day, if this is your thing
so be it. other people know every baseball or football stat, we know every eta movement or PAM model #.
Happy Holidays
someone posted @ RG saying they thought these guys all went out of business. they didn't.
Ideal and Bestswiss are still around. they are lying scammers but they have sold some nice watches. see allergy
doc's post in rolex section of his TW Best YM. its really nice!
here's mine doc. i think the YM came from Ideal, the Daytona is from Bestswiss.
you're right- they happen to be great watches. i think the daytona has a real swiss 7750.
the movement, date wheel, etc. are really great. the newer mov't are not nearly this good.
I have a 111 from Josh and a 089 from Davidsen. both are nice, about $300- 350. no problems with
the dealers. i have alot of experience with Josh, one time only with DSN.
the 111 seems to have a swiss mov't. the GMT an A7750
they're both nice watches. i also have a gen PO 42mm and its big enough for me. its also quite
heavy on the SS band. they say the 45mm UPO is a better rep than the 42mm one.
here's mine:

it may be technically possible to brush finish a newer rep but i doubt it would end
up looking like the old blackbirds. they were alot smaller (probably 38mm or so)
than the evo. better off just getting a brushed or perhaps a titanium model.
congrats- really nice finish on that baby. for now i'm gonna have to stick with my $100 noob YM
with the economy as it is, i can't afford the new YM for $775 or whatever it costs now.
