  1. ... because the cheaper it is, the more likely it is Jay can afford the Gen.
  2. I know what you mean. I have another IWC Chrono on the way and I've still not got that Daytona that first got me hooked. Oh, and I still don't own an MBW, even though everyone says I should.
  3. Not to the exclusion of all others, however. Some IWC stuff doesn't appeal to me at all, but that which does does so with a loud voice.
  4. So, your definition of a compact collection is higher than the highest figure on the poll. That in itself speaks volumes. I think this poll needs redone with a proper range.
  5. I'm 3.5 with a hankering to get to 4. I've pulled movements but not hands.
  6. Ok, I'm going to state my case slightly more strongly than before. Why should we choose this watch over all the others? The IWC Aquatimer is a simple, yet elegant design. It can use a 2824 or 2836 movement making it a cheap, reliable option. The case is unique with an inner bezel that's controlled by a crown on the outside which gives it an unusual edge that isn't too difficult to reproduce with a gen version and CNC-based system. With a simple change of material (SS to Ti) and dial, it becomes the Aquatimer 2000, a more striking yellow-hinted design. Additionally, the bracelet is already available on the IWC GST models, meaning we know it can be reproduced without worry. With the choice of rubber or steel, this watch can go from wet suit to Armani suit with a simple strap change. With one not-too expensive initial purchase, two different watches can be generated on the CNC, either of which would be a welcome addition to many people's collection. My flag is firmly planted in support of this extraordinarily clinical yet beautiful design.
  7. 6+ really was too low. Over 50% of us have over 5 reps.
  8. You don't remove air to test it, you add air. Pressurise the container to 5ATM with the watch outside the water but in the vessel, then dunk it. The watch has 5ATM air inside it and if it leaks, the bubbles pour out, and water doesn't get in. It's a non-destructive test.
  9. I'd take that beer, and the next, and the next ... See, Ryyannon has met me.
  10. I've resigned to the fact I'm not even in this competition due to a complete and utter lack of time to put a decent design on paper. I wish all of you all the best and I know what my favourites are.
  11. Remember he has to buy a Gen to start this ...
  12. I'd take it back if it's still in its service warranty period. If you don't have the proper tools, replacement gaskets and torque settings, I would avoid removing engine casings. ps. Nice one
  13. That would depend on the watches. Two decent $100 Asians beat one average $200 ETA.
  14. Jay (Silix-Prime, for those who don't know him) did put some sort of limit and RT mentioned it in tyhe very first post. Guess what, none of your watches fit the criteria. This makes me think even if he did post more precise details, no-one would read them.
  15. Me.
  16. I don't want to know how many reps. It's more than 12. As for gens, I have two Seiko auto divers, a 1975 Tissot auto, an 1960s Poljot auto ... and a few quartz watches (Storm, Timberland, Swatch, Apple ...) but nothing super-expensive.
  17. You really didn't read it, did you.
  18. You have an ETA 2836-2. Stop worrying.
  19. Why rep it? Seiko Black Monster (SS) $149 Seiko Black Monster (Rubber) $149
  20. As much as I'd love to breeze this PoM unchallenged, I would like to read other peoples' stories. So, how about everyone enters just after the deadline, eh?
  21. I think people are missing the "basic movement" and "no complications" theme. Sure, a Nardin Freak would be cool, but ... with a 2836?
  22. Bergie, Sash, etc. They're here.
  23. Oh yeah, and do something that's not been done already. No Rolex GMTs, SDs or Subs.
  24. Excellent news as I like the SeaHawk. Oh, and the kazillion fathoms Whitebread.
