From what I remember, RWG2 (here) was made as a haven for all the old articles on the old RWG. This worked well, right up until a Moderator over there was refused moderation rights here and, in a drink-fuelled rage (find the posts, I'm not dragging this one through the mud any more than this) deleted important key threads during the transition period. The ex-mod since cleaned up his act and is now a welcome productive member on this board.

If you want to use an adjective that's not replica, use counterfeit. One reason people here prefer the term Replica to Fake is that it's the Replica Watch Group, not the Fake Watch Group.

The dealers here don't refer to the 7750 copies as ETAs. These days, dealers referring to ETAs mean, like you said, ETAs made in either China or (rarely) Switzerland. In the past, this was not always the case.

There were two movements stamped ETA that may not have been ETAs. This problem doesn't exist for the 2824/2836 movements, or the 7750/7753 chrono movements.

You misread me. I apologise that my writing must not have been clear enough. What I was trying to do was not be angry at you, but I was trying to clarify your question so I could best answer it. At the beginning, you were trying to compare Panerai reps with ETA Auto gens, and I could see that if we didn't clear that up immediately, you'd base an entire debate on a false assumption. I hope this was dealt with before you hit your stride as we'd have all argued wrong corners and wasted an awful lot of time.

I buy replicas (note lack of apostrophe ...) to fool myself. Nothing wrong with that. Do people with Monet prints on their wall really try to pass them off as genuine?

We're both making the same point, but you just look at it from a different point of view. You keep going on about doubling the cost of the rep, or whatever. I simply see it as an optional part of the cost. If you want to buy a rep as a toy that may or may not see the year out, get an Asian 21j. The movement can be replaced wholesale when it dies for about $30. It's a hassle to replace, but that's the hobby part if this obsession. If you're buying a rep as a keeper, you need to factor in the cost of the first service. It's not a doubling of the price, it's just that you've only paid half of the price so far. To imagine you're the sole crusader trying to teach us that the QC isn't there smacks a little of arrogance, especially when I can find dozens of posts a month from respected members stating this over and over, quite clearly. You are not wrong in your views, but you're approaching them from a different perspective to most of us.
