  1. Well if you ever need to induce narcolepsy the question is there. Try this for size: A woman carefully steers with her pedal to the metal. She has covered the length of a football field while leaving a neat row of tracks behind her. Yet after the last yard, when she stands up, she's in the place where she began. Even though she didn't go in a circle or turn back, this is normal for her. What has just happened?

  8. It's so much harder to catch a passing submarine these days, isn't it? When will this Bracks government learn to sort public transport!! Good to have you back to the fold, comrade!! The Crasssy Cannibals of RWGI Island have the annoying habit of eating each other. In fact, Big Crasssy went missing only last week, and it was thought he'd lost his way home until his bits and pieces were found on the beach. One evening, the Crasssys threw a dinner party, one of those bring-a-friend get-togethers. Six cannibals turned up and they decided to eat each other in turn. So someone was selected for everyone to eat (except the victim!), and when he had been eaten, someone else was selected, and so on. If it took one cannibal two hours on his own to devour one person, how long was it before just one consumer remained?
  9. It doesn't matter, unless you want to work out "a profit of". I said you were right!
  10. I see where you're coming from, 11% of the sale price, but the sale price includes the commission. I think the key turn of phrase in the question was probably "a profit of" - to my eyes anyway. Fair enough. Now how about this fish? (Yes is the correct answer! Unless it's no, then you're also right!!) And where is Ken?
  11. WINNER!!! WINNER!!! Yes, much better than having it attack you! (groan ) But with your answer, her percentage profit was 12.36% wasn't it? I think we've even had this one on the forum before, but what the hey... There are 5 houses in 5 different colours. In each house lives a person of a different nationality. The 5 owners drink a certain type of beverage, smoke a certain brand of cigar, and keep a certain pet. Using the clues below can you determine who owns the fish? The Brit lives in a red house. The Swede keeps dogs as pets. The Dane drinks tea. The green house is on the immediate left of the white house. The green house owner drinks coffee. The person who smokes Pall Mall rears birds. The owner of the yellow house smokes Dunhill. The man living in the house right in the middle drinks milk. The Norwegian lives in the first house. The man who smokes Blend lives next door to the one who keeps cats. The man who keeps horses lives next door to the man who smokes Dunhill. The owner who smokes Blue Master drinks beer. The German smokes Prince. The Norwegian lives next to the blue house. The man who smokes Blend has a neighbour who drinks water.
  12. Would it be worth pointing out that the commission is a percentage of the selling price, and the profit a percentage of the purchase price? Here's a daft question to keep us going (did we have this already?) Would you rather a crocodile attack you or an alligator?
  13. It's still not the answer I'm getting
  14. Ann purchased a house for $ 161072. She wants to sell it for a profit of exactly 11%. However, she does not want to sell it herself. She wants a Real Estate Agent to sell it for her. The Agent must make a commission of exactly 5.9% (in addition to Ann's 11% profit). How much must the Agent sell the house for? Give your answer to the nearest dollar.
  15. I dunno, he normally goes surfing with Harold Holt around this time of year
  16. Don't have a new question to hand yet - but quality answer!! WINNER!!
  17. WINNER!!! That was also the last of the regular cards! There were many that I was too lazy to type up (long questions) but I might scan them if I ever find the time. However there are plenty of questions out there!! BTG lives!! A cylinder 126 cm high has a circumference of 24 cm. A string makes exactly 7 complete turns round the cylinder while its two ends touch the cylinder's top and bottom. How long is the string in cm?
  18. Yes, badly phrased question. I think it meant how many round trips, which is five, but you are exactly correct. WINNER!! Captain Frank was passing through a small town whn he decided to get a haircut. There was only one barber shop in town, and it employed two barbers. One of the barbers had a nice, neatly trimmed head of hair, and the other looked like it had been cut with a pair of hedge clippers. Which of the two barbers should Captain Frank choose and why?
  19. WINNER!!! This question, I'm sure, will bring back happy team building / management courses for everyone A man, his wife and their two sons come to a river they wish to cross. They find a rowboat on the river bank; however the boat can only carry a maximum of 68 kg at a time. Both the man and the woman weigh 66 kg each. Their sons each weigh 34 kg. How will they get across the river using the boat, and how many trips will it take.
  20. Pugwash is quite right about this, but thankfully there is some respite for a couple of these matters on the horizon: END OF CHILD LABOUR: Indeed a lamentable problem. Too many rep-making children are getting better offers making sneakers. Or coal-mining. There is a solution though - you may recall how it was possible to stunt feet growth by binding them. Well what they have discovered is that if they bind the kids' hands to the coal picks really tightly, not only do they not drop the picks, but their hands stay nice and small. Just the way you want them for putting the hands on your $90 21J automatic. DRUNKEN MONKEYS: It's about time, but they've just started ramping up the AA for Monkeys campaign - let us all hope and pray that scenes like this will soon be a thing of the past, for all our reps' sakes: [PICTURES COURTESY OF www.ems-exposed.com] Incidentally, tritium lume ended the day up 12 points, so lick it while you can still afford to.
  21. WINNER!! Dan Manley invited Miss Goodbody and Candy Barr to his house for a barbecue. Since Dan's barbecue is only capable of handling two hamburgers at one (Aussie snigger), he wonders how he can cook three hamburgers in the shortest amount of time. It takes 5 minutes for each side of a burger to cook. Therefore in ten minutes two will be cooked, and another ten minutes will be needed to cook the third burger. Candy says all three can be cooked in 15 minutes. How?
  22. It's good...but it's not right! Keep 'em coming!!
