  1. Holy crap . . . I did it!!! Pics shortly . . .
  2. Hmm. I wonder how to tighten . . .
  3. Is this a v23 movement?
  4. I think there's very little hope of fixing this. I haven't taken mine apart fully, but I'm guessing that the teeth that define the detent positions of the bezel and the marker cavities are stamped during formation of the bezel. So, this relationship is "etched in stone." The other alternative is to rotatably reposition whatever it is (spring loaded pin or ring with bent arms) that engages the bezel teeth. If it's a ring with bent arms that engages the bezel teeth, then perhaps there is hope of modifying the ring or length of the arms so that they engage the bezel teeth in a different position relative to the case. Without seeing the bezel apart from the case, these are just guesses. Does this make sense, or am I babbling? I'm basing my guess on the two different types of construction that I've seen in taking apart four rep submariners.
  5. Ok, I may give this a go after the kids are down for the night! It'll really depend whether my smallest screw driver is small enough to remove the movement holder screws.
  6. I like the 005 - that looks like the way to go, and no worries about the way the movement looks. So, an 005 with 2.1mm palp crown, Davidsen capped hands, superlume (?) - and I'm good to go? Anything else besides a "Christmas" strap?
  7. Sorry about the many questions. But, as I push *lightly* do I pull also on the crown? (Of course, all of this after moving the crown to the outer time setting position)
  8. BigNasty, once the stem and movement holder screws are removed, will the movement come out without the spacer ring, or do they fall out together? I'm guessing that the spacer ring stays in place when I flip the watch over??
  9. Is this the stem release button, as shown in the pic below? Thanks.
  10. I've already placed my order with Palp for the 2.1mm crown. Estaban, which model numbers correspond to the non-display back historics? Thanks.
  11. Yeah, yeah - that's it. H movement with swan neck.
  12. CDG movement? It just seems that if they were available, people would already be buying and posting pics of them. And, the dealers would be advertising them. But, you're right, I should just ask.
  13. Ok. I think I'm going to attempt to fix the subdial hand on this thing. I can remove the crown guard and back. And, with the right size screw driver, I'm fairly confident I can remove the stem without screwing up the movement. Question is, how are the screw-down pushers coupled to movement? Are they easily removed? Once the stem and pushers are removed, it should be fairly easy to remove the movement/dial assembly from the case, right? I already have a hand remover. I'll also utilize a clear plastic sheet with a slit to protect the dial while removing the hand. Any tips before attempting this are greatly appreciated.
  14. I seem to remember a month or two ago some discussion about a new version of the 111H with improved CDG engraving and operating swan neck, like the latest "Panerai"-engraved ones. Anyone hear anything more about this? Thanks.
  15. It's all fixable (I think) . . . it just takes $$$$$$$. That's all. And, patience also. And, being resourceful helps too.
  16. Yes, but he's 'smaaaaarter than the average bear.'
  17. Well, I took the 187 to my local watch repair guy. He's an older gentlemen that's been in the college town where I work since I was student. Super nice guy. Anyway, he deals/services mainly in vintage Hamiltons, Gruens, and the like. He had a couple of Rollies in the display, a modern GMT and a Explorer I. He also had on a Presidential in gold. I explained the problem to him, and he pulled out his various tools to try to remove the back. He kept referring to the watch (and others like it) as, "these damn things with the modern ETA's . . . I just wish more of these manufacturers used Valjoux movements." In the end, he said he didn't have a tool large enough to remove the back without damaging it. Then, it occured to me that there are special tools for removing the genuine backs from the case. I didn't have it in me to suggest the balled up duck tape technique! He also suggested taking it back to the dealer, at which point I mentioned that it was a 'private' sale. Maybe he knew it was a rep, I don't know. But, he was kind about it all anyway. I found another watch dealer that claims to work on, "any other kind of watch, we can fix it." So, I'll try him tomorrow. Or, I may just wait until I'm read to send the thing in for a superlume and have it fixed at that time.
  18. Is the one on the way going to replace 229, or will you have two? Thanks.
  19. Well I've just finished running my chronos for 24 hours. Before resetting, I waited until the subdials and second hand were only a few degrees from their reset positions. Yet, after resetting I now find my 30-minute subdial hand to be misaligned at the 29-minute position. For appearance only, I am able to run the chrono for exactly 1 minute and stop the second hand at the 12 position so that on the wrist it appears all reset. Still, I may venture into my local repair guy to have this fixed. Bummer. Oh, why did I run my chronos???!!!! Arrrgggh. I just couldn't resist and had to press the red button!!
  20. I'd very much appreciate pics of the Jones next to another watch for reference - thanks.
  21. Yes, I am curious also . . . is the XaMas a step above the rest? It certainly is beautiful, though these days there seems to be many visually equally beautiful straps for the $100-150 range. Is the XaMas super soft, or is there a feel of quality that is not apparent in the pics? I've been keeping an eye out for a good deal on an XaMas, but based mainly on the ooh ahh factor that it seems to generate here. Please share thoughts. Thanks. (Btw, everytime I see XaMas, I read it as Xmas, which then translates in my head as Christmas. So, I read it as Christmas strap. I can't be the only one . . . lol.) (Btw, it's 4am and I can't sleep. But, I've been running my 187 chrono now for about 10 hours straight to get the oil running through the gears (I think). But, to my eyes, it seems that the second hand sweep has smoothened out. And, I'm still within 10 seconds - yahoo!!)
  22. I love it, E. It's gorgeous. This is a strap I would wear in the fall/winter. In spring/summer, I like to wear light leathers - but, this is me. Can we see a shot with the strap and head laying flat?
  23. I'm on the fence on whether to get the EL's latest FA Jones or 222, though I'm leaning toward Jones. Anyone receive their latest-version Jones with the engraved movement yet? If so, please share your thoughts on the feel, quality, appearance of the watch. Thanks.
