  1. +1 on the 3717 But....why not both ???
  2. Thank you, Francisco for yet another great review! In reading the reviews for the modified 7750's (daytona, portuguese, and this one), the addition of one or two (at vital gears) would make vast improvements. Given this, how challenging/difficult would it be to add a jewel to this movement? Certainly, I understand that the right tools would be necessary, but given the talent we have here, is it something that can be "reasonably" done? I must admit I'm just a novice at these things; however, after seeing some of the mods that are done here, certainly adding a jewel is possible...?
  3. Has The Zigmeister's How-to been re-posted anywhere? That post would be essential reading for any DIYer...
  4. Thanks, freddy333. I'll take my time on this one (assemble all the right pieces...and most importantly - do my homework). I expect there to be several bumps along the way, but, know that the end results will be very rewarding. At least that's the idea, right ?
  5. Thanks for the reply! Hmm...I'll see how much I like the vintage watch before making the transplant.
  6. Dangerous place for my wallet lately I have not gotten this yet (on it's way)...but got this Valjoux 72 doner watch for my upcoming 6263/6265 project. From the posts I've read, it seems like the movement looks pretty clean...and more importantly looks to be authentic; however, let me know if I've missed anything. I am certainly far from an expert, but over the last few months, I have learned greatly from the members of this forum! Hope I can put it to good use... Additionally, does anyone have any information as to this particular watch? It has a logo/symbol on the dial just under 12o'clock; however, I can not seem to find any information on it. Not as important - as I bought it more for the movement; however, I may just keep it original state for while...still looks to be a nice watch. Appreciate any info or tips our resident Val 72/DW6263 experts (and vintage watch experts) have on this one...
  7. Do you have a good source for 2893-2? I would be most interested in this! Especially if price is reasonable...i've gotta GMT IIc project waiting for a 2893-2 transplant! Let me know...
  8. eBay is always a good start. As an example, here is a seller I recently ordered an A6497 from. His cases, though, are generally for 6497 or 6498... http://stores.ebay.com/Alpha-jewellery-time
  9. Been trying to do some homework over what is involved in luming some of my reps. I came across this thread and website for Glowinc.com paint. Has anyone tried this? Looks interesting; unfortunately, since I am in Japan, I cant really get access to some quickly (do not ship internationally). On my next trip back to the States...I'll definitely pick up a few bottles to test out (if no one else has already tried). http://glowinc.com/ http://forums.watchuseek.com/showthread.php?t=159117
  10. If it's a cheapo canal street Rolli...are you sure it is a screwback? This may account for the unsuccessful duct tape and/or sticky ball method...sticky ball usually works on all my rolli reps. Best, of course, would be to get the proper tools (but even then, it wont help you if it's a snap back case)... I think someone just posted something about this...but can quite find the post now.
  11. The $299 one was sold out (as the msg on the description states)...this one is slightly different. I think either the band or clasp is different...nonetheless still a pretty good deal for a new 7750.
  12. Great deal! With the way these look in the photos (no offense to anyone), I don't mind using it as the a doner watch...for my incoming Flieger! Who knows, maybe these Pirelli watches look better in person... First time ordering from BlingDaily - are they reliable?
  13. Just donated on the AU Red Cross site...truly a terrible thing to happen. It certainly makes you realize and appreciate the things we all take for granted...and realize what a great community we have here! Come on people...there's still time...keep donating!
  14. An extra bonus for joining - I joined maybe two weeks ago! But certainly this will be the BIG event...great start to the year. I, too, would love to see your group shot - inspiration (or a warning ) for aspiring collectors! Since joining, I think I accumulated 15 or so watches (both reps and gens)...and have done so because of all that I've learned from the other members here.
  15. Best thing to do would be to post a picture of it for confirmation. Not sure for the SOSF, but all my others with Gen ETA have metal movement retainers...
  16. Ahh, thank you...I didn't realize that there was another company "customizing" rolexes (learning something new everyday!). Also...names to the different bezels either 200 or 400 type. Are those photos of gen ProHunters? If so, then the white text markings are the same as the Rep I posted...can someone confirm that a gen rotating bezel is like this (i.e. 55 lines up with 2 o'clock when 60 is lined up at 12 o'clock)? Well, if there isnt much response, then I guess that's also an answer in itself... Didnt think I would...but I kinda like these blacked out PVD Rollies. Anyone else have these? Impressions?
  17. Well - it's not exactly stock Gen...since it is a Pro Hunter...so something like a modified Gen. Anyways, your watches (Gen and Rep) look great! I may just decide to get one with the "units per hour" at 1 o'clock version (non Pro Hunter). If you look at the photos (not the red text ProHunter), the "Unit per hour" is located at the 3 o'clock position when "60" is aligned with 12 o'clock. Anyone have any information on this one? Thanks, Godzilla for the comparo!
  18. Hi Everyone - I've been considering the Daytona Rep (despite the hesitance with the movement - even with the supposedly improved version). In doing my homework, I noted a difference in one version of the bezel inserts; however, my search did not turn anything up regarding this (please do point me in the right direction if the subject has already been discussed, apologies!). In comparing the rep/gen bezel of the Pro-Hunter Daytona Blk/Wht, is the bezel insert spacing off on these Daytonas? I've attached both the Gen and Rep photos I have. The rep is the one with the full on face (not at an angle). From my observation, looks like the following line up: 12 o'clock = 60 3 o'clock = "Units Per Hour" Text 6 o'clock = 120 9 o'clock = 80 However, even though all these line up on the Rep (just like the Gen photo), it does not line up for 1 o'clock=55 and 2 o'clock=50 on the rep. So, is this the case for all Daytona reps out there or is there a more accurate bezel insert? Is the other style bezel preferred (red ProHunter Daytona). More importantly, though, I've also noticed this "spacing issue" on some "Gen" 6263's offered on the Bay. Would this suggest that, at the very least, parts on the watch may not be Gen? Daytona and 6263 Experts - let me know what you guys think.

    GMT III

Simply beautiful...another one to add to my growing collection especially if they can put a "proper" GMT movement into this one. In fact, if Seagull will produce a GMT, I may need to consider putting this into my GMTIIc! Been looking to swap out the Asian modified ETA 2836-2 movement for something more reliable but a "reasonably" price 2893-2 seems to elude me for the time being.
  20. I totally agree with ya on this - would prefer a proper GMT movement. Sorry, but my initial source for the 2893-2 didnt quite work out...so I was just going down the path of sourcing another modified 2836-2 when the time come (hopefully not for a while). Do you have another source or suggestion on where to get a 2893? Would still like to continue this project if I can find one for a reasonable price (given the situation with ETA movements). Regards,
  21. Thanks everyone for the feedback. I am certainly talking about the version that is also offered by Eurotimez...not the less accurate $100 quartz version which is visually off. Anyways, it doesnt really seem like there are multiple versions of the $350+ version of the Discovery...only differentiator would be the QA process each dealer offers (from dropshipping to a more diligent QC). Please correct me if I am wrong...
  22. Apologies if this a a basic question - are all the Ebel 1911 Discovery's that are being offered by all the dealers(collectors) from the same factory? It seems like all are offering the Panda (as reviewed by By-Tor) for about the same price (mid-high $300's). I am deciding on which collector/dealer to buy this from...but seem to have some minor differences in pricing. Thanks again! Boy - am I just adicted to this...very, very dangerous forum (for the wallet)!
  23. Well, both views are very much appreciated and should be considered: 1. on gen Rolexes and well maintained movements - the occasional handwind is probably ok (done slowly and not too many times to get it started). Whew - good news for me... 2. on others/reps - perhaps additional care/attention should be given as one does not necessarily always know the condition of the movement. Even if known, care should still be taken. Avoid hand winding on if possible (i.e. I put them on the auto winder). I think a balance view (hence educated view) is what is important to me.
  24. Try the ebay store below: http://stores.ebay.com/WHOLESALEOUTLET990_...9QQftidZ2QQtZkm They have ETA hands for 2836, 2824, 2893...and others... Otherwise, I would suggest contacting your dealer as they maybe kind enough to sell you parts...
