  1. By-Tor, That rainbow is awesome. I sense that compliments other pieces in a fine collection. I'd take any horological art-piece I can get, even if it's not perfect. The pieces Zenith makes at the high end are truly breathtaking, and if they were accessible to a guy like me, I'd do it. I considered saving for a Chronomaster xxt, but the dial markings (the shell design on the first dial and the star design on the second) are really what gets me motivated. If they made a piece in the 5-10k range that had this design feature, I think they'd attract more buyers. Thank you for the reference as well! kt
  2. This is my plead to all makers out there: I beg you to make this piece. I know that an El Primero is not replicated, but if some version could be made with a tourbillon of some sort, I would pay for it. I would pay twice even three times what you would charge for a rep that has a tourby on it. I'm sure others have seen Zenith's line, and if you could rep either of these, you'd make many many happy campers. My piggy bank is waiting for them.
  3. Hello friends, I hope you are all well. I am considering doing a modification piece using a 44mm california dial I purchased on ebay. i would like to put it in a 45mm radiomir case. Before I do so, I'd like to know if any of you have experience with this. Is it even a possibility? Thanks in advance. kt
  4. Yes, welcome. I'm relatively new here, but most people are very kind and helpful. A true community. kt
  5. I'm no expert on this, but you might want to try to use putty between this and a lug wrench case opener. Also, if I recall, there are rubber caseback openers available that can also do the job with a little elbow grease. I yield to more talented experts on this site though. kt
  6. awesome win, Dadog. I'm happy for you. What is the minimum mm casing this type of movement will fit in? Is this for a 44mm or 47mm project? Excuse my ignorance, I'm new to the mod game. kt
  7. This is beautiful. I have tried to find a cortebert movement for a mini-fiddy project watch, but I don't know where to find a good one. CE How did you find one new? You are the man!
  8. I'm in. Wholeheartedly! And since I have multiple personalities, I count for at least 5 votes! The 50F is Beautiful and would sell well.
  9. while the dremel has been brought up, does anyone have any advice what sort of rotary tool (corded or corldess, model type) you would recommend for these sorts of tasks?
  10. I would challenge those forums who question the validity of this site to consider the class antagonism that veils their so-called "purity." I have known many great owners of both gens and reps and the thing that makes me respect a person is their passion and their knowledge. To that end, this forum is a site dedicated to the rich history and culture of watchmaking, seen from people who have clearly not taken it for granted, regardless of status or political identity. For this reason, this community is bound by an affiliation to one another based on something valuable, something that cretins who pay far too much for their timepieces and boorishly pass it off as their birthright or entitlement would rarely understand. Fitzgerald once called this the "engine of hate." These forums are for watch love. Save your hate for contempt and obscene forms of class antagonism.
  11. You guys are pretty great people. I hope if the need arises, I can be as helpful as you guys are to the community. kt
  12. thank you, all for the useful information. Does the RG forum sell them for a higher price because of the shipping difference to people in the CONUS? If not, then that's messed up. All of these are great pieces of info. I love the pearwood contrast to the panerai aesthetic. Beautiful then, beautiful now! kt
  13. I think the Zenith is particularly beautiful. I like a thin, classic outline for a timepiece as much as any supercomplicated piece. The Glashutee Panoinverse XL is a ridiculously beautiful watch. I think they give some of the finest lines in their casings. What I'd give for a rep of that piece. Thanks for sharing these pics. I wonder if they're a hint for the next generation of reps and collectors' cases. kt
  14. man, I owe you one. This is three times you've already responded with great info. I hope I can reciprocate someday. have a good one. m
  15. Hello all, I have seen several of you show off some fantastic pannies. I was wondering if any of you know how to find a panerai collector's case to hold 6-8 watches. I know that the pearwood box can be purchased by several sellers, but I have never seen a place that sells the larger boxes. Any help is appreciated. As a side note, i can't wait to show you pics of my new 187 (when it arrives) on a custom hornback gator strap my cousin made. thanks, kt
  16. that's right. I've seen some beautiful Glashutte originals (at least cosmetically) that use the 21J and they spruce up a collection nicely. Dealers... here our call!
  17. This is an important question. I have discovered that some watch repair guys will be more sympathetic to your cause if you are willing to either purchase a gen from them or buy other things from their shop frequently. I think it's worth it to build relationships with local watchmakers if you can do it, especially smaller companies who sell mid-range watches who understand that not everyone can afford luxury gens.
  18. by the way, I'd buy this strap if you're selling it. Hell, if you're selling the watch, or up for trade, i'd bite too. kt
  19. That, my friend, is sexified. I have rarely been into the ivory pannies, but this is fantastic. Excellent strap. You've changed my mind. Question: which models do you think work for the white dials? enjoy, this beautiful piece. kt
  20. I totally hear you on this. If they made better reps, I'd be fully willing to buy one. The classic lines of the JD beg for a good replica. Additionally, the functions on most models wouldn't be so exotic that a good rep couldn't be made. also, I'd love to see the new SUW get some rep attention. Like so: The search continues...
  21. Hello all, It's a great pleasure to be on this site. I've already learned so much from several of your posts. I'm generally a Panerai guy with a lot of love spread to other watches, but I have a question that may prove moot. Last year I found a site, http://www.watch-ebay.net/ProductsListA.asp?id=91 , selling Jaquet Droz replicas. The site no longer works, and I've never seen any other places that have sold these pieces. I am particularly fond of Jaquet Droz, especially given their history and Pierre Jaquet Droz's impact on watchmaking. It'd be nice to start with a rep of the JD before moving on to the infinitely more expensive gen. Any thoughts, ideas, comments. Many thanks, kt
