  1. maybe it's not simply a matter of tightening the rotor, but also lubricating the ball bearings on the rotor wheel itself. It sounds like those bearings are not lubed enough, causing that sound. You might consider either lubricating them yourself or having someone do that.
  2. Wow, that's a lot to chew on. I like the Defaubre, and I may purchase one of those in the future. I don't know what it is about Kobold. Like Ronin said, their clean design is a real draw and I read from many sources that they are very good watches. In any case, I will consider what I've read, because part of the draw was to purchase a gen American made watch. The whole concept seems silly to me now, so I might just save and save and save until I find something that takes my breath away and makes me feel like I purchased something with a story to tell.
  3. Ronin, I think I'm going to do it. I'll post pics as soon as I get it. There's no way I can get one used. This is a limited run, and I just found out that in time, they'll raise in price on their second run significantly. I think it's a good choice to make given the attention they're getting. I don't buy watches for investments, but even if I did want to sell it, I'd most definitely get my money back. So I might as well do so. It's on...
  4. Yeah, I see a similar thing with Trusty. They opened up a new site for lower priced reps. I think they're trying to diversify their inventory to determine what's going on with the economy.
  5. Man, this is a tough one. Maxman, I'm with you. I do have a few reps already, but I can't really justify spending a whole lot on a watch. But Master and chef are right, a gen is good to have in the collection, although I can't figure out for myself why that is the case. A Tissot has been on my mind for a gen for a long time, since I think they are a good brand and would satiate my desire for a gen. I might go with something like that and get some reps. I initially thought the Kobold was nice for a couple of reasons. 1) I'm a Sopranos fan and I know it has a history with several of the actors in that show. 2) it's really trying to be a new American watch company, and I want to support that if for no other reason than to add diversity to the world of watchmaking. 3) it's a freaking cool watch that's being sold right now at an introductory price. I think I might get it, and if it doesn't suit me, I'll sell it and get these reps. Besides, the FF isn't out yet (at least not the one I want) and there are a few others in the pipeline that could wait. I might just sell my PAM Tantalum I got on this site to get a little of both worlds. thanks again!
  6. Pho, you have skills. I always knew pens and watches went well together, and now I know a guy who works with both! Great job!
  7. Hello, I'm about to pull the trigger on a gen Kobold Arctic Diver (pic below from their website). I wanted to hear your thoughts. Should I get one of these guys or should I get a whole bunch of reps. I have hope that this year a bunch of cool ones will be out, like the Fifty Fathoms, a Zenith Chronomaster (45mm) and some cool IWCs. Also, I've wanted a Graham for a while. I could get all of these for the price of that Diver (which has an introductory price of around 2K dollars) and still have some money left over. Any thoughts?
  8. I like this alot. I don't like it as much as the new Chronomasters or the vintage Zenith stuff, but I like it more than the defy stuff. I wish they'd make a 45mm chronomaster xxt already, and I wish they'd do the 1955 vintage pieces as well. This flyback is a rare beauty though. I think the colors if they were released in contemporary times should be more bold. I don't like a blue that mixes with red, yellow, and green unless it's got an electric color to it. Otherwise, I'd vote for a neon orange to fill the spectrum out a bit. Also, if it's a rainbow, let me as for a violet shade. my .02
  9. Welcome! You have great taste in watches, and I'm sure you will find this place to be a wonderful place to learn and share. You'll also find that your favorite watches will often change, and you will have moments when you revisit your favorites with an even stronger sense of nostalgia. enjoy!
  10. It looks superb. I wouldn't touch the dial, but if you wanted to paint the tip of the chrono hand, I would have the stitching from the carbon fiber strap match it. That would be a nice detail. you're the man!
  11. thank you very much. I want to put it on a special cuff and found one on Andrew's site that was 36mm. I thought that was too small, and now methinks that's true.
  12. Does anyone know what the original case diameter was for the original moon watch?
  13. you're the man, Robbie. Thanks for sharing. Very illuminating. No pun intended.
  14. Do you want a dress watch or an all-purpose watch? b16a2 has some great suggestions. Sinn is a great way to go. I'd say that Kobold is another nice option if you're looking for something rarely seen on the street. Their Arctic diver is being sold at a discount right now. http://www.koboldwatch.com/products/arctic_diver-swiss.htm you could also consider buying a very good vintage watch within that price range. You could find an Omega in great shape for a very good price. A new Omega is a solid bet, though. It's got my respect on all counts for quality and beauty. Longines master Oris Atelier (that's a beautiful watch!) good luck and congrats.
  15. you can never assume who can afford a watch. that is, unless you want people to be unable to afford a nice watch, because that is the secret desire behind such an assumption.
  16. Jeez, Robbie. I feel like just took a semester in your most excellent course. If I learn half of what you know about 1/5 of this world, I'd be a proud man. Thank you for this information. I see it as a call to be as knowledgeable so that one day, I can be a citizen like you in this world.
  17. I'm in for a Black Bezel 45.5mm with all the mods listed herein. Hoping is not a foregone conclusion.
  18. this is truly great. Thank you for the resource!
  19. for me, the whole point of having a rep is enjoying something that is beautiful, but would otherwise be inaccessible to me. It's not about representing myself to others, it's about my enjoyment of a piece regardless of its price. I find that the broad majority of people here enjoy a piece for its intricacy and passion, and whether or not some j-hole would judge me for wearing a timepiece that is supposedly out of my range is irrelevant. Of course, discretion is a skill and a virtue, but so too is passion and joy for any timepiece, so I stick to one prime law: appreciate the intricacy and beauty of a thing first and foremost.
  20. Thank you very much. This makes me feel much better. Ronin, thanks for the link!
  21. Hello all, I'm just checking to see if anyone had technical difficulties recently. I tried to log in last night and only this morning did the site come up. I may have missed something, or perhaps there was a maintenance underway. I just get concerned, because I entered my password several times, and I don't like doing that when a site doesn't come up or when the site insists that I had an invalid password. Kind of creeps me out. Any information to calm this nervous wreck down would be appreciated.
  22. I often wonder what will happen to the industry when it reaches a breaking point in respect to problems such as these. Even if you can afford to get a watch serviced like this, who wants that kind of service? Hublot, I like your Big Bang, but what are you gonna do when the Big Bust hits you and the tried and true brands whose support of watchmakers and independently owned watch repairmen take your business. You'll be an overblown Ritmo Mundo selling your wares to fools and that will be the only thing your brand will stand for.
  23. I need a good camera. Enough is enough. What do you think is a good watch to wear in honor of Jason Voorhees b-day?
  24. I like the crownguard. the latch sits flush with the curvature of the guard. That's a problem I need to resolve with my PAMs. good job. enjoy.
