  1. I'm about to purchase my first Aquatimer. I have a 7.5" wrist, and I like the 44mm heft of the Cousteau Divers (Lanikai's pics are legendary). I'd like to hear your thoughts on the following: Which should I get: 1. The CD 2006 Edition -- I know everyone here raves about it, but I'm not so sure that the Blue can be worn with a lot of things. And is it a sin to even suggest that I'd put a black rubber strap instead of the blue one? 2. The Slevin -- it sits a little smaller, which is a downer for me, but I like the metal. 3. The CD 2008 Edition -- I could go all out and get the most colorful of the bunch. But really, how often would you wear it? Seriously, how often do you wear it if you own it? I trust the judgment of many of you folks out here, and I'm leaning towards the CD 2006, but I'd love to hear some advice right now. thank you in advance. You have no idea how much I've struggled with this one (whoas me).
  2. I'm still jonesing for this piece. If anyone is willing to sell or trade. I even have a couple of gens that I'd trade. Nothing fancy. I do have a nice Hamilton Khaki GMT that I hardly ever wear that I'd trade. I'm open to suggestions or offers. PM me. I'll feel sad, lonely, and neglected if you don't.
  3. I love it! I think it's got pizzazz. Now I want pizza. yom yom yom yom yom. Ahem. Yes, i think it's an awesome watch. Seriously. I'm loving on these watches. Totally unique and every major collection should have at least one Graham.
  4. usually takes a couple of weeks. Experiences vary.
  5. I think the Krono Bauhaus is fairly similar to the original. I own one and it's a solid build. Like the original, be careful how you treat the enamel on the sides. You don't want to chip it. My first movement died on me, but I got a replacement from my dealer. Fairly painless. it works fine now, and I've had it over a year. 1. any of the collectors here should have the same watch. Doesn't matter. It depends on who you like and who you trust. 2. I think I just answered that. 3. They are accurate, and the functions seem to work. To be honest, I still don't know or care about the smiley face function so I can't speak to it.
  6. It does freeze up a bit. The transition from the login to the main page takes a while. It might be my connection, though. Thanks for asking. I hope it works out.
  7. Is this the one you're talking about? Ubi is right, it's not the ROO, but a Royal Oak. http://www.tt88time.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=241_246&products_id=2970 Also, jfreeman is right too. In entourage, he's actually wearing two different APs. He owns one in the show (the jumbo, see the episode where they go out into the desert and take shrooms), and he gets one as a gift (the gold chrono that he receives from the head of the studio). Lots of AP love on that show. Heck, Ari could be a case study for great watches. he also wears a vintage Rolex Panerai at the beginning of season 5.
  8. I didn't notice, but yeah. It's a little messed up. I'm also on the fence about the carbon fiber on the bezel. It seems like it lacks the luster of the Gen. This is a rough one to rep. I'm glad they are trying though.
  9. Do any of our dealers still have access to it? I love this piece! Anyone willing to part with theirs? Trade? Sale? eh?
  10. I consider this one of the nicest ROO ever made. I don't know if this was ever in circulation, but if it was, I'd like to know here I could source one.
  11. I never thought they'd make this. Any thoughts? http://www.tt88time.com/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=241_288 They have four variations out. I'm interested in thoughts from all you peeps.
  12. I value my reps just as much as my gens. The strange thing is, once I suspend the reality of the rep being like the gen, I have much more fun with the collecting aspect. When I change gears (ha!) and try to make the rep more like the gen, the craftsman element emerges. It's a great hobby indeed!
  13. I have seen many pics now of the 2008 Cousteau Aquatimer, but I've yet to figure out whether any of them get at the correct dial color. Can anyone speak to the quality of the blue in the Aquatimer? Is it too light? This pic shows the Cousteau diver with a much darker blue than any of the pics I've seen on the rep sites. Is it lighting? I'm going to pull the trigger on this one, but if the blue isn't right (meaning if it isn't vibrant enough) I'm going for the slevin. thanks.
  14. these are pretty awesome. congrats! and yes, give us plebians a shot at the corteberts. I knew you guys are always snatching them. You are a professional snatcher. well played, Moriarity, well played.
  15. I wish I had expertise on this matter. I have a friend who used silicone lube on his noisy rotor and that did the trick just nice. I haven't hear a complaint out of him since. I've considered doing the same for my noisy Chopard, so I'd be interested in hearing what people here have to say.
  16. I second, third, and fourth all the well wishes for this man. I hold Lani in high regard, and even though he doesn't know me, I think it's safe to say that all of us benefit from his spirit and passion. Get well, my friend! And thank you, Robbie and Ubi for passing on the information. Taken from one of my favorite movies, Tombstone: "Dammit, Doc, why the hell you doing this?" "Because Wyatt Earp is my friend." "Hell, I got lots of friends." "... I don't"
  17. I have to second Nanuq's advice. Never go for another version of the watch you love, even though it may seem like a way of having your grail. it won't work. That's why I've sold several Invictas in my life. If you're going to buy a watch like that, buy it because it's its own watch. Reps are different because there's modding and an hommage element to it. Get the one gen you truly truly want, but be warned, that one gen is going to give you a little farm of Gens you need to own, and then you'll have your gens and reps spawning all over the place. It's like rabbits man.
  18. I agree. The numeral "IIII" has a rich history, and an apocryphal tale is that it was the mistake of a king (although I don't know who) who had commissioned Swiss watchmakers to make a watch. It's also supposed to be a tribute to Louis XIV, who often marked his own title as "XIIII." I've also heard that is is done to balance out the number of V's and I's on the dial. In any case, it's sort of messed up to blame the Chinese for this. We purchase watches from these guys, and yet we still begrudge them their talent and skill. I think it's funny that when the West messes up, it's not criticized as much as others. Do the Swiss never mess up? I think not.
  19. Thanks, chronoluvv, you are a gem. A true hero and a scholar.
  20. Hello, Unfortunately, I bought a rep for a friend of mine as a gift, and now its ticking when it should be tocking (it's dead). Does anyone know a watchmaker in Atlanta that I can recommend to him and will work on reps?
  21. For me, it depends on the thickness of the watch. I usually wear thinner watches, or watches with a thinner profile a little more loosely. But if it's a bulkhead sitting on my wrist, I need to have it a little more snug. If it's a nice leather strap, then I need to have it feel fairly snug, but if it's metal, I like one finger for breathing room. I used to wear my watch super loose, and then I had an accident. Never again.
  22. I second AstroAvia's question. Where did you get that awesome case? Nice collection, man. Keep the faith. You made some excellent decisions, and your taste is great.
  23. Yes, they are quite amazing, and the pics here are far superior than anything I have (since I don't own them), but here are the two I'm considering. I'm taking advice for which should be purchased first, if you're up for it. these pics come from Andrew's site.
  24. Hello, all. I'm evaluating the Ingeniuer and the Royal Oak Offshore for purchase. Most likely, I will purchase a ROO with a white dial, and an Ingy with a black dial. However, I'm weighing the pros and cons of both pieces for future reference. It's my way of knowing which will get purchased first, and in the end, which will remain the watch I give the most wrist time. This is not a rigorous analysis. In fact, it's based more on my the general impressions these watches give off, which after all, are the doorways to the intricacies of the watch itself. Here are my thoughts on comparing the Ingy (non chrono) to the ROO (seconds at 12), both with metal bezels (no ceramics or rubber bezels) and bracelets. I know it might sound like apples and oranges, but sometimes I mix my fruits. Sue me. I'm using my experiences wearing the Gens at various watch retailers as my frame of reference for this comparison, and I've jotted these notes down over a period of 4 different visits to wear each piece. 1. Reliability -- winner -- Ingy. From what I've read, the Ingy is one of the most reliable reps out there. It has a strong movement, that if serviced properly, will last a long time. The ROO (I'm writing about the seconds at 12, but should also apply to the seconds at 9) is going to be more difficult to keep. I say that given that it's a chronograph, and I personally view chronographs as more difficult to service, modify, and maintain. 2. Durability -- winner -- draw. Different from reliability, I view the durability to refer to the basic integrity of the watch, meaning the scratch resistance, permeability, water resistance, etc. Both are build like tanks, and feel like them. However, since the crown is generally vulnerable on the Ingy, I take a point away from it in the sense that one swipe here or there spells doom in a way that the ROO doesn't have to worry about as much. On the other hand, the ROO has to contend with the chronograph features being vulnerable. Both are susceptible to scratches, and both have very solid bracelets, although the Ingy seems to have better praise on this site for its strength and finish. 3. Design -- winner -- Ingy. I struggled like hell with this, but I ultimately have to say that the Ingy wins by a very slim margin. Both have excellent finish. The ROO has an advantage in the design of the inner bezel ring as well as the rubber element underneath the bezel. However, the Ingy has an intangible quality that is due in part to its strange geometric elements on the edge. Those wrist shots that I've seen of the Ingy win me over when I would initially feel the geometry of the case was too strange. It's unlike any other watch in terms of its basic shape, and that's saying a lot. Both have great dials, but the "I" beam dial on the Ingy hits the light with more nuance than the waffle dial on a ROO. Also, no one beats IWC for its understated but elegant font. I thought Panerai was better at one time, but the crisp font of IWC wins me over lately. 4. Presence -- winner -- ROO. Despite the Ingy having a strange power over me in terms of its design, I feel much more... well, powerful when I've tried on the ROO. If the Ingy has an intangible way of sitting on the wrist and touting its design, the lack of subtlety in the ROO is what makes it such a wonderful watch. The numerals are nowhere near subtle, they beg for attention, as does the bezel. The Ingy almost draws your attention from one place to the next, while the ROO say "here I [censored] am!". On watches with metal bracelets, I've found that presence often supersedes design, and in this way, the ROO wins me over. Both weigh like they should, like quality timepieces with heft, gravitas, and vigor. So I guess I favor the Ingy slightly, but only by a small margin. I'd like to hear your thoughts when the opportunity arises.
  25. These tropic straps are awesome. Does anyone know if there are any that are made for non-traditional lugs, like the old IWC Aquatimer?
