  1. Wow! This last Franken just sold for $8561.00. Absolutely mind boggling! http://cgi.ebay.com/rolex-daytona-cosmogra...tem140051436038 It just doesn't make sense to me, don't these people know what they're buying?
  2. Whoops! Wrong again, 7750's are Hour- 2.00mm Minute- 1.20mm Center Seconds .25mm Subdals- .17mm So they won't fit the 2892 sizes, except for the center seconds at .25mm
  3. I'm thinking that the hand sizes are the same: 90/150/25 for all of the ETA's in the 2800 series and the 7750's, Ziggy posted sizes for the 7750's a while back.
  4. In repairing a two tone Submariner, the stem snapped at the base of the crown. I'd like to find a rep crown, because I don't really want to pay for the Rolex 18K 7mm crown and a gen tube (or aftermarket tube). I just don't feel like paying $100 to repair this watch! Does anyone know where to find one of these, preferably in the USA?
  5. You gotta love it when stuff fits! And your datewheel lines up with the window and cyclops and looks great! Cool watch.
  6. As I recall, it seems like those are two part rivets, which snap together in the middle. Check out www.ofrei.com/ or www.julesborel.com/ for the part. A watch repair shop would also probably be able to help.
  7. Ziggyzumba also speaks highly of the Miyota 21j movement. You could use it as a dependable replacement for an asian 21j, for example, in another rep watch.
  8. That screw at the base of the balance wheel bridge is showing up BLUE on my computer. LOL
  9. Since it's guaranteed 100% authentic, and assuming you were going to spend that (ungodly) amount of money on a watch, I guess a trip to the Rolex Service Center would be the next order of business to confirm that , yes indeed, your watch was 100% authentic. And since you just spent $23,000, what's another grand getting to the RSC and back? Maybe someone else would like to ask Philwatch if this watch has been authenticated by an RSC. I don't want to be blackballed! These guys get so touchy.
  10. Yes, Michael Young is the owner, I believe, and some people have used him here w/ good results, XRT, RBJ69, Saabin on the old RWG1. Custom parts, some of which have a custom price, but sometimes price is no object, if you want it bad enough!
  11. Alpha hands were popular in the 40's and 50's, like on an early 6234, but I've never seen the combination alpha minute and mercedes hour anywhere. Skeet and Urul, here I come
  12. I just figured the 1937 date was a typo, and should have been 1957. These people don't proofread their stuff for [censored]. I agree with the minute hand being bogus and I have my doubts about the hour hand, but I've learned to quit calling these guys down on their 100% genuine bs, cause all they do is ban me from bidding on their stuff. I've been banned at Astorlive because I questioned the date mag on a 1675 GMT. They wouldn't even address the question and just said 100% genuine. I think it was an aftermarket crystal, but they could have just said it was a bad picture..., no, 100% genuine on a 40 year old watch! I guess that's how they keep their 100% approval rating- ban the intelligentsia, no WIS allowed.
  13. I thought I saw an insert and bezel from a guy in Desoto, TX for $225us today on the bay- it looked authentic to me. Type in Rolex bezel and do a search! But really you only need the insert, I would think. Unfortunately, finding a gen is tough- you have to suck up to someone who has access to genuine parts, or keep watching ebay. You could try Raymond Lee Jewelers for an aftermarket insert. I like the one that I got for my 16610- it's not bad for a little over $20 w/ s&h. I bought the one for a 5513, but I think the ring around the pearl was a tad large. The original 5513 inserts had an acrylic pearl, no metal ring and the later replacements have a very thin ring around the pearl, thinner than the 16610 pearl ring. And the pearl is smaller, also.
  14. Yeh, I couldn't figure out what a "Swiss watch chip" was either, but obviously, English wasn't the sellers first language, because alot of his stuff didn't make any sense. BTW, NRG, I think that sub you posted is a real one. The only drawback would be that Singapore Watch Co. hasn't sold anything on ebay.
  15. Cool watch! Those 16800's are becoming vintage at this point, being 25 years old plus or minus. And I'm growing to appreciate those TW cases, esp. since they'll take a gen dial. Great job.
  16. Isn't that the DW mystery movement? The V23 copy.
  17. I bought that tool set 1-1/2 years ago and paid $70 for it and still think it's a great deal at that price, so it's only better at $49.95. Bear in mind though, you'll still want to get a decent set of screwdrivers and a Rolex caseback opener if you work on Rolexes. And yes, I didn't know what all of the tools were for at first, but I have since then learned!
  18. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...p;rd=1&rd=1 This guy is so stupid, that he's posted a picture of an ETA movement w/ Rolex on the rotor and thinks it's real! His first pic appears to be a Rolex stock pic, the second is of a TT GMT II and who needs a booklet to go with their fake watch? But this guy says he's not trying to rip anyone off! And God Bless! Also, it looks like he might have some shills running up the price.
  19. Choosing between Paul's sub and TTK's sub is mainly a matter of asking yourself which movement do you want. ETA or asian 21j? TTK's asian 21j is regulated and the one that I have is spot on. But I don't know what I'll do in a year or two or three when it needs servicing. With the ETA, you can always get it serviced. FWIW, I think that TWG and TTK have the same sub w/ asian 21j and Paul, TWG, and EL have the same sub w/ the ETA. At least the cases on TWG's, TTK's and Paul's are the same and the other details of the watches look the same.
  20. This looks pretty cool! These look to be drop in replacements for the ETA's, using some of their nomenclature even. I guess that article was translated from French, maybe, pretty rough and difficult to understand some of the phrases.
  21. http://cgi.ebay.com/Very-rare-SS-Rolex-Sub...tem220044560803 Here's an old crown- $109
  22. I just had the crown and tube on my gen 1680 (1978) replaced. It had the original old style triplock crown and tube where the tube did not have the outside o-ring. The old crown has the three dots on it. The new crowns (24-7030) are not compatible with the old tube (my watchmaker tried to screw a new crown on, but it didn't work) so I got the new 24-7030 update with the crown and tube. Now I have the outside o-ring on my gen 1680. Collectors like these old crowns, because then they don't have to replace the case tube and can say their watch is still "original". Mark Greenberg had one of these old crowns for sale last week on ebay, like for $50. I have the old crown and tube and will check the crown tonite to see if it has the foil over it.
  23. Now that I look at the Gevril dial, I'll agree w/ the 2824/DD set up. Zodiac, and Daniel Jean Richard also use that set-up. How this guy made a Daytona is beyond me, unless he put in a 7750/7753. Otherwise, you'd have some screwed up subdials. And why not just buy a Daytona rep w/ the 7750?
  24. I have a Zodiac Chronograph w/ the 2824-2 and the Dubois Depraz module. The running seconds is at three, and the 30 minute counter is at 9, so I'd be surprised if the Gevril has the 2824/DD combo, and I really wouldn't expect it to fit the Daytona dial. My Zodiac has a very thick case, also. Interesting to note that our Franken Tona is up over 5K this morning already, and the reserve is not met yet!
  25. The Gevril uses a Swiss 7750 movt (or is it a 7753?). They used to be around for $800-850, maybe less on ebay. Originally sold for around $1500. The only thing that guy has going is the swiss movt. On the original auction, it ended early because "the item was no longer available", meaning...??
