  1. I got syntetic shapire in my old rep and within a year of time I scratched it only in few places and the scraches are barely seeable.

But you sure can scratch real shaphire with few things, repmember that in hardness scale shaphire is 9 out of 10 that goes for shaphire. Theres plenty sharp tools that goes above or equal to 9.

    Exactly.

  2. What didn't he do?

"He studied watchmaking in France and in England and invented different escapement methods, including the tourbillon, and re-winding mechanisms. His watches and clocks are widely regarded as some of the most beautiful and technically-accomplished."

That pictured bust is on his grave. Unless, someone else wanted his face on their grave....

    Thanks Gunnar! :thumbsupsmileyanim:

    Been enjoying myself!

Damn just read the other posts... Do I get credit for the year of the invention and patent ?

  3. I think Zenith were one of the first to make the flyback, they may have even been the first (I think that's what it said on the video that came with my Zenith watch).

As many will know Panerai also have a flyback chrono - the automatic PAM212.

I can't remember which movement is used in the genuine watch though, but would be interested to know if it can be replicated.

    :victory:

  4. Answer = he controled all those brands.....he wanted to show that he cares equally about all of them......in fact the conmglomerate of a company he led now controls 18 major watch brands :o

"Today, Swatch employs 20,000 staff in 157 factories, and accounts for around 25% of the world's watch production. With nearly 20 brands in its stable, the company's portfolio covers practically all segments of the market, from low-end brands like Swatch to mid-segment Tissot and Calvin Klein, to exclusive, luxury brands like Omega, Blancpain and Balmain and Breguet. . Nicolas Hayek has always been a showman, often wearing three watches on each arm from wrist to elbow, and mystifying his interviewers with obtuse comments; "If I am desperate, unhappy, unsuccessful, I sleep one night and the next day I remind myself that a real entrepreneur is an artist that creates new things, new jobs and overcomes obstacles." Dismiss him at your peril though-his success is unquestionable."

I know, just adding some levity.

    :D

Fell asleep in the middle of my last reply last night and just added that now. Gonna have last nights dinner at 8am now :Jumpy:

  5. You got the correct person :thumbsupsmileyanim: but we need some more detalis about his life :g: and what he has done for watches..why is he wearing 6 or so watches at the same time? :bicycle:

    Go do your homework properly

    Horologist

    Gunnar Gran :)

Greatest Achievement: Being father of Salma... I can't stop watching her ;)

    Peeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee....

  6. Not lucky. Just price insensitive (read stupid!). But I do love it. On the bracelet it literally just fit right on once the bottom tabs were lined up. It may have been luck as it is the first watch I tried the bracelet on. :) If you have the new case style on the 188 that would not surprise me as the strap pin holes are drilled too close to the case. It would not fit on my Panda based on what I can tell.

Both the 188 and the 196 I have with ETA 7753 and old case. I will try it again. The same bracelet fits on the 029 ETA 2893 with little problem though.

And yes you were price insensitive with 187 but it looks so damn good. If I could afford it who knows, maybe I would have gone for it too, just unsure about that price and the Asian 7750. Looks so damn good though. I just hope it eventually comes out with ETA 7753 at a reasonable price (like the old case 188 and 196). :whistling:

  7. Didn't know about regular pricing until now. :wounded1:

I should have tried to get hold of a Japanese guy I knew in university (in Japan) and got him to order it. Or a friend of mine who is moving there in the next couple of months.

  8. Friday - 7753 188 on SS bracelet. New combo and I love it.

    Saturday - PAM 187

Sunday - Tribalized and Ziggified MBW Red Sub.

Apologies for lack of pictures. I dropped the camera and it died. :o I would have to cut down on rep buying to get a new one so it may be a while.

kruzer, I tried putting the SS bracelet on my 7753 188 but couldnt get it to fit ... I'll try again sometime.

Can't get one of the screws out of the lugs of the 196 so it's still on the rep strap too.

    187 - lucky guy :wounded1:

  9. The advantage of an ETA 2893 over a modded ETA 2836 (with either independent hour or GMT hand) is that you can get parts for the 2893 if it needs repair, while the modded ETA will have problems as it is modified in China to specifications no one knows.

  10. What's 4-5 mm loss from a regular PAM ?

You also get a nice wooden box with it, a screwdriver, extra spring bars, two Connolly leather straps with buckles on each - they feel great quality but I havent bothered looking at how to change out the bracelet as I like that. The instructions came on paper in an envelope, but by now most on here will know how to operate a chronograph etc.

And if you miss that PAM feeling ... it's got a sandwich dial! No relume necessary!
