I think they both come standard with an H4 set. The H5 works well with DJs that have tall hour markers. I buy those from Egypt on the Bay. Just do a search for "ETA 2824-2 wheels". You can enter a note in the order that you need H5 and that is what you get. ETA branded, as well. Sometimes he does not show the canon pinion but he has them. Deliver is about 2 weeks but he is solid and communicates very quickly.

I'll need to experiment a little. It is the pie pan dial that came in the watch. I have the 1570...all serviced, but the hairspring is not straight, and I'm just not good with those. The coils are concentric, but it is leaning and touching the wheel. A new balance complete is about $400+, if I could arrange a purchase. I just love your 1016. It is my next project.

Thanks, FxrAndy...I guess the 2846 will not be a good choice for a 1601 case.

Attention ETA/Rolex experts. Does the ETA 2846 replace a 2836 or a 2824. I am building a 1601 and would like to use the slower beat movement. Also, does the same canon pinion and seconds wheel, for a 2824/36, fit a 2846? Thanks to all!

Anyone making flat 3 overlays or datewheels anymore?
preacher62 replied to LIBBY!'s topic in The Rolex Area
I have purchased several rep parts from him. He, apparently, has an arrangement with the factory... I just emailed him inquiring about "a dwo with open 6s & 9s and flat-topped 3s like the one on your best vintage 1680s." He gave me a price of $38.00 and I had them in 10 days. -

I mentioned that I had some dwos coming with open 6s and 9s and flat-topped 3s and that I would post a pic when they arrived. Here they are. This is the dwo that came from Andrew. This pic is beside a c. 1960 vintage 1570 Datejust wheel. The Rolex wheel is much sharper and the font is a point or two larger. I'm still wondering how to make the dwo that I purchased the same color as the Rolex wheel. -
I have purchased several things from Andrew at TrustWatch. He has never refused to sell me anything that I can describe adequately. You'll have it in a week to ten days.

You can order hands from eBay for less than $15 for the ETA movement. Just look for ETA Submariner hands. That would be close, not quite 5512 hands.
-
ETA hands will not fit the DG 2813 (i.e. 21J) movement.
-
You can buy stems for $3 or $4...from Ofrei, Esslinger, Cas-Ker, etc. or from the Bay.

Looks like a gen ETA 2836-2. Eight holes (instead of four) in the reversing wheels Brushed look of the mainspring barrel Three indents (instead of one in copy) for removal of balance jewel shock spring General look of brand engraving General look of regulating screw and ledger markers Looks right. Very fortunate.

This is what the wm9 dwo looks like on a gen dj dial. This was my first DJ attempt. I'm calling it a 16234 even though it has a plastic crystal. I might get a sapphire crystal some day. I even sprang for a 18K wg bezel. It has a gen ETA 2836-2 that keeps time in the +/- 2 sec/day range. You can see that it is left-justified but it never touches the edge of the window. Just another "rep" problem to solve. MOF I think it is not a problem. Sorry 'bout the scratch on the mag lens. I'll get that if I ever take the watch off. -

I appreciate that explanation, ....Kay. I have wondered but never asked. But, it's really not that bad. I will post a pic of my 16234. I'll have to make a "straight on" one as I don't have one. It's just in the single digit dates that it is really noticable. The teens are much less noticable and the 20s and 30s are just great. I have seen DJs on ebay that the dates are left of center just a little. Heck...we have politicians that are left of center...just a little bit. My love for the Rolex has always been based in the sub-type watches, but because of what some of you have done I made this DJ, and I just love it. The DJ is, arguably, the most recognizable watch on the planet and I don't see why more members don't want one. Probably the best franken you can attempt. Anyway, I'd love to improve that datewheel. I might have to just get into the datewheel business. -

I will do that. Should have them the first of the week. Are the window positions in different places on different watches with the same movement? I put a WM9 overlay on a 2836 and put it in a 16234. The numbers are a little left justified in the window. If what btocamelo says is true, and I believe that it is, they will not work for me, either. I was going to use both under a gen DJ dial. We'll see...Andrew is pretty quick to tell you (or ask questions) when something might not do what you want it to. He doesnt't seem to want trouble. -

I have two of them coming from Andrew, already shipped. $38 + $15. They are supposed to be open 6s and 9s and flat-topped 3s. It is the overlay from the factory that does his top-grade vintage watches. I'm looking forward to getting them as I am putting one in a 1960s vintage 1601. Only problem is it will be white or silver and I don't know how the stain it a champagne color. Might have to make a concession there. Andrew has been a great source for rep parts. I have bought bracelets, case parts, etc. from him. He usually ships within two days. I have them in a week. -
THIS is what you can do with BKs new TW sub

I agree with CHT. I have been wearing a modded MBK for almost three years. People have commented on the watch but no one has ever asked me to take it off and hand it to them. How gauche would that be. 999 people out of 1,000 do not care. -
I have 7 clone 2824s running in watches that I have assembled and they seem to run just the same as the Swiss made version. When they are clean and well lubed they are great movements. The shock springs in mine are just the same spring as in the Swiss. The difference is there is only one relief cutout to release the spring while on the Swiss version there is three. I find it easier to put the spring back in on the clone. BTW, jmb...rafflestime claimed to have had 3 of those movement rings and I ordered all three. At 1.00 each I saved a lot of freight.
-
OK, will do. I'll let you know how it works. Thanks for weighing in.
-
That's good to know. I will order a couple, however, JMB is going to make me one this week.
-
@Chi...I assure you, the intentions were honorable when I first asked the question.
-
I will and will post the results. Thanks! BTW...jeorg and jkay, RWG is about watches. You seem to have taken a wrong turn somewhere. We use "enlargement rings" also...just for a different purpose.
-
@Ali...thanks much for your reply. I see what you are saying. I posted my question here as it was not intuitively obvious as to how one asks Yuki a question. Didn't find a "contact us" tab or anything of the type. Do you know how to contact him? Thanks, again!

I know that someone here has done this. He does not list the 1601 case on his site, but rather the dive style cases. It seems that if it will convert a 1570 case to an ETA 2824 that it should work in any case in which there was a 1570. Right?
-
The pictures themselves were as enjoyable as the content. Thanks!

Poor Mr. Slimeball...Maybe I've just been fortunate, but I have ordered everything from bezel inserts to ETA movements and they have, on every occasion, been the right thing and received in a timely fashion every time. Just .02
