  1. I say B is gen and that is purely for the coronet on the dial. It has a nice, flat oval that dims to the rest of the coronet. The coronet on the A dial has an oval that is too round and does not dim. (Not sure "dim" is the right word.)
  2. "Caddy-wampus" Justin...Is that an old horologic technical term? BTW..the Explorer is coming along.
  3. Amen! Ever since I saw Southcoast's signature, one of those has been on my list. I would rather have the vintage with the jube.
  4. It is 36mm and has a Clark 25-135 crystal. The white gold bezel fit perfectly...tight press fit.
  5. So...if I call this a 16200, instead of a 16234 then I am OK with the plastic crystal? But do I need to drill the lugs if I do that? Also, I am not sure where the linen dial fit into the product line.
  6. It's a gen dial and and Swiss made ETA 2836 movement, so there is trimming and glueing involved. I have done it several times though and have gotten to where I know where the bodies are buried...so to speak. It can be done so that the dial can be removed if need be.
  7. I would have had one of those Oysterdates a year ago if the mag was correct. Never been able to determine that this is correctable with a crystal change.
  8. Sorry...I'm always thinking about components and parts. Here is a watch that I purchased from Andrew (Trusty) a year ago. It has a vintage style dial and bracelet. It's the only quasi vintage style DJ I could find. http://www.yourtrustytime.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=1_12&products_id=854 Then I went on eBay and purchased a silver linen dial. I liked that so I went kinda crazy and sourced a vintage style jube bracelet and then a 18K white gold fluted gen bezel. I have too much in the watch, but I will always have it and then my son has his eye on it. Gen DJ crystal fit perfectly. Bezel fits perfectly. I need to change the crystal to sapphire but haven't. DJs are relatively easy to mod and come out with a nice watch.
  9. Just go on eBay and search "silver dial datejust". Here's one that's pretty nice...may be newer than you want. Price is about what you expect to pay. http://www.ebay.com/itm/GENUINE-ROLEX-DATEJUST-SILVER-DIAL-CAL-3035-3135-/170658545589?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item27bc0abfb5
  10. I've got one coming from Silix. It has an ETA 2671 on board and looks great but that hands are stubby. Trying to find some. The bracelet is the more vintage style with fold-over clasp. I do not like the Lady's Rolesor bracelet. The end links and mid links are not plated on the sides and it looks bad. I wish mine had hands like yours.
  11. iRolexU was 13 in 2002. I was 13 in 1959. Wow, that makes me feel old. Actually, I have a brand new Medicare card that has only been used one time. Great watch! I have 4 Subs and only 1 franken DJ, but I think DJs rule. By far the most recongnizable watch on the planet.
  12. I think it's a rep...from Josh...or maybe Andrew...no, probably Yuki stuff.
  13. I've been building frankens for myself for a couple of years thanks to RWG. I didn't think my wife cared anything about it until she came up one day and said, "How would you feel about building me a Lady Datejust." So, I have about $500 worth of stuff coming in with which to do that. ETA 2671, case, dial, hands, bracelet, etc. It's going to be a grand watch.
  14. Do you mean, "she loved that Rolex...man" or "she loved that Rolex man." Just wondering... M
  15. I've been around here for awhile, so pardon my ignorance, but what is the "cartel case" and are they all the same from the trusted dealers, or from which did this one come? How's that for a run-on sentence? M
  16. Could be just the lighting or the method of engraving. I don't know that any mfg. that actually colors the engraving or lithographs it on...maybe someone else does. M
  17. When you purchase a movment from watchmaterials or some other supplier, it comes with a dial ring, set of clamps and two screws. If you sent an email to watchmaterials on eBay, they might furnish you some. I'll send you some if you need. M
  18. There are two considerations in aligning the dwo. One is, of course, vertical alignment within the date window. The second consideration is horizontal alignment. This can only be done by centering the dwo on the datewheel. You cannot check the alignment of one number and if you think it is a little to the left or right, just move it over. The dwo must be centered on the watch. Wherever the dates fall, horizontally, you can't do anything about it with that particular dwo. The outside edge of most dwos almost perfectly fit the movements date wheel. I line up the date, vertically, in the date window and then check the outside edges to see that the dwo is centered on the watch. You place the dwo and then set the dial on and check by running date around. Take off the dial and correct... Put the dial back on a check... Take the dial off and correct. And the cycle goes on until you are satisfied. BUT THE DWO MUST BE CENTERED ON THE WATCH OR IT WILL NEVER WORK. It sounds like the centering is the part your watchmaker is missing if only 1/3 of the numbers line up. I use a thin glue that will give me 15 - 20 minutes of messing around time.
  19. This gasket does not appear to have an L foot on the inside. It appears to be on the outside, Unless the foot was compressed out. This gasket appears to be .43mm thick not counting any foot. Have either of you ever asked Gary Clark about this delimma? He might be the one to help.
  20. I took the crown from my Josh 5513 and chucked it in a variable speed cordless drill leaving enough space between the crown and the chuck to get a sanding disk in. Then I used a 1" sanding disk, turned over, in a Dreml tool. You set the sanding disk at the angle you want on the base of the crown, then turn the Dreml on slow and start the drill turning slowly. Voila...poor man's machining lathe. 5 minute job. Mine came out like this, but I appreciate the advice on milling down the crown seat in the case. I will add that for sure. Never thought of it. I think these cases are usable. We just learn something each day. Oh...and I also took some off the tube so it is still watertight.
