  1. I shot these pics with a Kodak EasyShare. That being said...the tripod's the thing.
  2. Thanks you very much. As luck would have it I am looking for gold hands this time. I will look at Borel and see what they have. Thanks, again. I have a 1601 that I am retrofitting another movement in. I looks as though...since it has a piepan dial...that the Miyota movement will fit perfectly. I will know today. The 8215 is a great "slow-beat" solution for franken work.
  3. I know this has been discussed but I could not find the thread. Is there anyone in CONUS who sells a set of DJ hands for a Miyota 8215? Hands for a DG movement will work fine but I can't find them. I have sent an email to Gary Clark to see if he has them. Mr. Slimball says that he does not have them. I might have to go to one of our dealers. Miyota hands - Hour = 1.65 mm Min = 1.0 mm Sec = .17 mm DG hands - Hour - 1.5 mm Min = 1.0 mm Sec = .17 mm You can broach the hour hand just a touch and it will fit fine.
  4. Can't see the pics. Says they were moved or deleted.
  5. The hacking lever is, absolutely at the bottom of the back side of the pillar plate. I have a 2846 and it does not have the little nib that the hack lever mounts on. With my 2846s and also a Miyota 8215 you can hack it with a little practice. Pull the crown out to the set position and set the minute hand to where it needs to be, then turn the hands counter clockwise ever, ever so slightly, without moving the minute hand, and it will stop the second hand. I can actually make my second hand go backwards a few seconds. You can get good at it. Contrary to popular belief it does not harm the movement.
  6. Just a note...it really needs to be an adhesive such that the dwo can be removed from the datewheel. On some movements you will have to remove the overlay in order to service the movement. I have found a way on ETA movements to remove and replace the ring with the dwo affixed, but on DGs and Miyotas you usualy have to remove it. Try not to make it permanent.
  7. Seize the day to you as well...and thanks!
  8. Pardon my ignorance, but what is the dealer name for Reg and is he one of our trusted dealers on RWG?
  9. +1 Ali. Also, I never understand posters giving a hypercritique when the OP is obviously very proud of their purchase and did not ask for a critique. If an OP says, "tell me what you think..." then, by all means, tell him, otherwise, let him be proud. That's what this forum is about...purchasing, modding, building, frankening, or otherwise procuring a watch that satisfies you and makes you happy, even is another person would want more. @1024...Great review on a great watch! Great pics!
  10. Unfortunately, no. There are not parts commercially available for the Noob. I have one and I changed out the insert for a Watch Material insert and it worked great. Just follow the instructions to sand down the outside diameter of the insert. If you are careful it might even pop it in without glue. Also, it is advisable that you not try to remove the bezel ring. It has been done but most of the time the ring is bent and will not reinstall. To change the insert you must pop out the pearl and then insert something into the hole that is left and pry out the insert, thereby destroying it. You are going to install a new one anyway...right. About the only gen part you can install is a crown and even it requires drilling and tapping for fit. Other than these things the Noobmariner is a great watch.
  11. It depends on what the rep is. If it is a Noobmariner a regulation bezel insert will not fit without some modding on the outside diameter. There are tutorials here as to how this is done. Watchmaterial can supply good inserts and pearls. See below. http://www.watchmaterial.com/home.asp
  12. Please tell us where you get the cases.
  13. I use a caseback wrench die.
  14. See here for comparison with ETA 2824. https://www.bernardwatch.com/ETA-2824-and-ETA-2892-Comparison
  15. The problem with the 16000 insert on a 1680 is twofold. First, the inside and outside diameter is different (as has already been stated) and the width of the ring of the insert, itself, is thinner. Second, the cup or dish of the insert is much flatter on the 1680. This is one of the things, coupled with a nice domed crystal, that gives the vintages such a distinctive appearance over the more modern subs/gmts/sds.
  16. Looks like a good 16234. M
  17. I understand that....???
  18. Justin, where did you get the cases that you mentioned? M
  19. I have posted, on several occasions, that I have purchased ETA 2846s from William S. McCaw Company for $57.95. they are new, but may be NOS... http://www.mccawcompany.com/
  20. I have Josh's 1680 and I purchased a 127 from Clark and it fit puuuurrrrrfectly. I was hopeful that this would fix another problem with the watch. The datewheel and date window and the cyclops do not line up, horizontally. The dwo is left justified in the window and the cyclops is right justified to the date window. Since I believe that the Clark crystal is correct, then the problem lies with the dial and dwo. I fixed the problem by purchasing a 5513 dial and a 19 crystal from Clark. Machined down the crown, vintagized just a smidge. Problem solved....
  21. I used the Raffles Time (I believe it was the #2) ring in a 1601 case with a 2824. It worked well, but with mod. I didn't find that it was too large, but as Diz said you have to machine some notches for the case clamps. No big deal. It's a five minute job with a Dremel tool and a cutoff wheel. For anyone building frankens or modding watches a Dremel is a must have item. Or, you can do it with a file. Oh, 2824 and 2836 is the same diameter so the ring will work. The other thing one must be concerned with is the height of the winding stem. It needs to match up (fairly) well with the center of the case tube. The 2824 or 36 differ in this respect. When you're working with gen parts with rep parts or the otherway around, not many things are straight forward and bolt on. [This hobby is not for the weak of heart, is it? Lots of stuff...lots of stuff]
  22. You could buy a pretty nice gen...but where's the fun in that?
  23. I used one of Raffles Times' enlargement rings in a gen 1601 case and it worked well. I had to machine out some places for the case clamps to pass through but that was a simple Dremel tool job.
