  1. I visit all three regularly and this is the first one I joined up and the only forum where I purchased from another member. One of the other forums is a bit less serious than this one, as their mascot and name suggests. If I post a question, I know that the other forum will get a repsonse fast, only because there is more activity on that forum. If you click on "view new posts", that one gets the most. Not to say that this one is any less in quality than any other forum. Each forum has their resident experts that members can rely on.
  2. I noticed you posted in the "other" forum as well. Generally there is no need to do such, as most hard core forum members will scroll through all three main forums several times a day. Also, your best bet for finding answers like this and many other ones, are in the tutorial sections, and using the search button.
  3. Don't know yet, but that's not the only thing you have to worry about. The button pin that locks the clasp together can come apart fairly easily. (shown just below your circled area in the pic)Already it happened to me and one other owner. It happened the very first time I put the watch one. I crazy glued mine together. It fits extremely tight now.
  4. yeah, I've been playing around with the regulator and it's been 4 tries lately. still haven't figured out the sweet spot yet. It is so tight, one tiny movement of the regulator moves the accuracy by about 20 or 30 seconds. ughhhhh.. Also, placing my watches this way or that way overnight seems to make a difference. I guess that's the fun of tinkering around with this hobby.
  5. although nobody has asked me or called me out, IF someone asks, I'd either just look at him with a face or reply: "What do you think?" If he decides to call out fake, then I'd just give him hmphhhh with a smile, and talk to someone else. I'm not trying to pass off my rep as a gen, but I think calling someone out is rude, especially in public. I reckon it to calling out a woman's pair as fakes.
  6. hahhhh I can relate 100% to your experiences. Both at work and at home!!!!!! I've surfed the 3 boards all day in between my work duties. Luckily my monitor is facing the door, so I can Alt+Tab to a work page when some one comes into my office. I've secretly gone to the computer at home to surf the dealer and forum pages. I have 3 reps at home and my wife outed me on my first rep, but hasn't called me out yet. She doesn't know of the other 2 watches. She still thinks it's a gen, so I'm "called in". But that in itself has its drawbacks, since now she is eyeing a $800 laptop now that she thinks I can afford a Rollie. (I'm pretty sure she suspects it's a rep, as I would never spend $5K on a watch). She's just testing me...... I'm eyeing 7 more watches, but I've been told by other forumites to slow down.
  7. save your money first and try the rubber glove method. i was going to buy a caseback opener for my Rollie to regulate the movement till, on a whim, I tried the rubber gloves, and lo and behold, the caseback started to loosen. I've opened it up several times already and am fine tuning the movement still.
  8. Nice car, but I don't really like the ironing board at the back, but that's jMHO. As for Rollies, I've wanted one ever since high school. I know a lot of people who have gen Rolexes, and they are relatives. I ended up getting a rep Sub, not because I couldn't afford it, but because I'm not wanting to pay $5000 for a gen. (secondary market notwithstanding). I've got better places to park 5K. I've always wanted an Omega as well, and the PO was a good fit. I like Pams now, but it was an acquired taste, much like beer in high school. I like beer now. As for cars, I have to have a luxury car. (I have Lexus) My second (ie wife's) car can be an all around Honda or Toyota. (But I'm eyeing a Mercedes though. ) If I get called out on my Rollie, I don't really care. So far, only two people have seen my Rollie since I got it and they think it is real. I did not mention it was a rep, because they didn't ask for its authenticity. In fact, I didn't say one way or another; it just wasn't brought up. Do people get typecasted as a repper or genner? I don't know, but it is easier for some (ie burger flippers vs executives). For me it would be hard to typecast me as one or the other.
  9. Got mine yesterday. Tried to resize the bracelet by removing the links and yes, it was a bit ch removing them. I got a rep friendly jeweler (I did reconnaisance first!) and he did it in less than 10 mins for $5 I do have to say that when I was examining the clasp last night, the ball that looks like a mini trailer hitch in the clasp fell off. The opposing end of the hitch where it gets attached to the clasp also fell off. I lost it on the hardwood floor at home and it took me 10 mins to find it. I tried to put it back together as it just "snaps" into place but the snapping mechnism just wasn't trustworthy as it unsnapped again after a few clasp removals. I finally ended up crazy gluing the hitch to the clasp and now, it seems to be holding. Just wondering if anyone else had this problem?
  10. Remind me not to wear my rep 111h next to you. btw. the cg pin doesn't seem as high as I thought it should be.
  11. I got a gen Montblanc Meisterstuck and a rep Boheme. I prefer my Meisterstuck more, maybe because I know it's a gen. By the way, refills are expensive, at about $6 a pop. (At least where I get them)
  12. Use your tracking number and go to your own country's postal website to continue tracking it. If you are still in the HK Post website to check tracking, it won't update once it leaves HK. I made that mistake wondering the same as you untill I went on my country's postal service website (Canada Post) and continued the update from there, using the same tracking number.
  13. Well, just tried the rubber gloves method and I got it off. Once you get it turning a bit you don't need to squeeze the watch anymore to apply friction to the caseback. It can turn without any added force. Got off the case back and then adjusted the timing. Moved it by about 1 mm faster. We'll see how it goes tomorrow. It was running 1 minute slow a day. by the way, does anyone know if the watch is supposed to be hacked before I adjust the timing? I did it with the watch still running. Hope I didn't ruin it....
  14. Andrew over at TT now has one.
  15. Do those balls work on the threaded Rolex case backs?
  16. I found that I tended to like certain styles of watches, so I gravitated to brands that suited my style. I am still a Rolex (Sub, DSSD and DD/DJ fan). I like dress watches, smaller diameter watches, and don't like too many things on the dial. (ie chronos). I don't like heavy bezels or very chunky watches. I think Pams are an acquired taste. I didn't like them at first, but now, I am pining for a 111H I think everybody eventually ends up getting a Sub/ DSSD, a Pam and/or a PO some time in their watch collection.
  17. hmmm never really thought of that. I do drink lots of water, so it could also be fluid buildup in my system.
  18. +1 that's why I ended up getting the Longines Grand Classique, a distant second and a "settle" version of the 3919. AR and VC put out some really good dress reps. I might think of getting one or both reps soon.
  19. my point wasn't really to comment on bad bracelets, but the fact that my wrist swells up by mid day, making the watch feel tighter to the wrist, and was wondering if others experience this.
  20. In the morning when I put on my watch it fits nice, but come the afternoon, it swells up and my watch fits tight to my wrist without it moving anywhere, either up or down the wrist or around the wrist. Usually in the morning, it can slide up and down about an inch, and around by about a cm. I had to expand a notch in the bracelet clasp on my Sub today to make it wear better on my wrist. It wasn't so much so as to add an extra link, but the added lenght amounts to 4mm. I find it fits looser, as it should, but my wrist still swells up so that the watch does not slide up and down my wrist as much. In the morning it is so loose that it knocks the wrist bone knuckle. It can slide up and down about 1.5 to almost 2 inches on its own. Now in the afternoon it can still slide but I have to use my other hand to move it, and it slides less up and down the wrist. I am not a sweaty wrist person, but this bugs the heck out of me. A loose fitting watch is more prone to get nicked and scratched on surfaces that my hand might bang into. My gen watches don't do this afaik. Anyone have this problem?
  21. Patek Calatrava, Longines Grand Classique, Piaget Altiplano
  22. I have that, and if you spend some time staring at it, you will notice it compared to a high beat, but I don't spend time staring at the seconds hand moving around in circles all day. With the slow beat you can actually count the six beats per second. With the high beat, you kinda have to count the ticks really really fast.
  23. Is this PO better than the cartel boys? Or is it the same one? I too noticed that the seconds hand is a bit short, but at that price, who cares!!!! I think this might be next in line for me. I'll have to put my 2nd Rollie on hold now....
  24. I too am a righty. You and I must be cut from the same cloth. I can recall the exact same experience you are describing when I was in high school.
  25. Yes, I watch this, even though I have a very low BMI (20 or 21). But for the life of me, I cannot seem to spot the wrist shots.. If anyone can get a HD screen capture of the wristies, I'd like to see them.
