  1. If what you especially want is the closeness with the gen, the 090 is not the best way to go. The date-change pusher on a side (which all PR asian 21J have) is a giveout on closeness. And, in case, be sure to get a model with solid (not see-through) caseback. If, on the contrary, you want a solid, nice looking watch with the added bonus of PR (which I greatly appreciate as my favourite complication), without spending a fortune on a 2892-A2 model, then the 090 is a good choice. But in this case you might also want to consider the 027. About AR coating, it is quite expensive. Check the posts by Finepics (for EU based AR) and chieftang (US based).
  2. With a minor flaw that will need mod...
  3. Color is the same (C3), but you can get different degrees of brightness depending on how many hands (layers) of lume you apply, and especially on how much the glowing pigment is diluted into the medium. Btw, maybe there are only two degrees of brightness: hands and dial -- and the difference in brightness between the larger hands and the small hand is just due to the different size.
  4. Well, there have been the (in)famous threads about the TRL... Yes, we were a bit too excited for the elegant, slow-paced TRC people!
  5. Ok fellow modders, let's go prepare our filing and soldering tools!
  6. Glad to hear that!
  7. Oops, I don't want to get misunderstood here. What I actually said is that they should buy from Mark; and, if they want, also from you and Archibald:
  8. Good to know. Thanks!
  9. Personally I can't wait, after the good crowns collection I already have (Lello's, Palpatine's, Davidsen's, Homer's), to start a nice collection of datewheels too... I too think that competition is good (especially to customers ). Still, I also feel that orders placed when the starter is gauging interest, taking preorders, and so, are somewhat different from orders placed in a latter, established phase when the pieces have already been produced and they 'just' have to get sold. Those first orders critically drive the maker on his economy choices, whether to carry on with the project or not, etc. So I strongly hope that anyone who placed an order with Finepics on his datewheels will honour his word -- and naturally buy from Lello and Archibald too, if they like. I'll do it this way. I would even encourage Lello, Finepics and Archibald on taking arrangements between them not to sell to anyone (if any) who steps back from a preorder to get the piece(s) from a different provider.
  10. I'll try, and as a last resource I'll try a scratch test. I'm quite surprised that this crystal came from China, I supposed Jimmy was US located. I hope Jimmy is not selling his good reputation to some x-jewelry-type ebayer (btw, x-jewelry is no more a registered ebayer...). I am not going to mount the crystal on a Jimmy's case, this was my first (and maybe last) purchase from Jimmy. But thanks for the advice!
  11. Similar here. Not for having spent all my funds, but for the no-paypal thing. If it not were for WU, yesterday I would have pulled the trigger on one of these Pateks. And I still did not find time to review all his today's offers! Damn those asshats who made TTK scared with paypal!!
  12. I may add that two AP RO that I recently got from Joshua also passed the test.
  13. Congrats, Mark! I just hope they are not planning to put some polonium into your dinner...
  14. Hi all, I just received a crystal from Jimmyzfu that he declares as sapphire. Sill, I get contraddictory results from my testers: electric resistance tells glass, while thermal conductivity tells sapphire. So far, electric resistance never failed on telling sapphire from glass, while thermal conductivity sometimes failed. Had anyone any previous experience with these Jimmyzfu's crystals?
  15. First time I got a mention anywhere. Thanks, Chronus! :sss:
  16. What about a Glycine? Large nice watches, gen not very expensive, anyone could afford one. The extra large F104 (52mm!!): My favourite KMU48 (48mm): The more modern Lagunare (46 mm): Or, for tiny wrists, the Ningaloo Reef (40mm):
  17. I stumbled upon this and can't decide on its genuinity. The overall look and AR are quite good, the numbers on the back look consistent, and the guarantee card correctly spells "certifiCato". Still it lacks all other cards, and pics are not good enough to judge about the crown and cannon pinion. I would say 90% gen, but what do you think?
  18. Well, the result is amazing! Great work! Pls also tell us something about that strap.
  19. Yes, it's bad, but it can get even worse. Just stay away from large black things like <--------- this one. And welcome aboard!
  20. Oh no, Clive, did you really have to inoculate this guy with the PAM curse? Here, he's done. Welcome, PAM-damned fellow!
  21. As fitmic said, ordering from an EU-located dealer will sooth your anxiety. Else, simply 1) stay away from Belgium and/or 2) let the dealers choice your destination and carrier. They know their job. PAMs and IWCs are a little lesser risky than Polex and Kartier on customs issues too. Btw, welcome!
  22. Well, we already had the Luminor Urina and the Luminor Menstruation... now we are served with APROs as well!
  23. Just FYI, naphta and other petroleum-based solvents usually do the trick. Common abrasive paste mixed with petroleum is even more effective (it won't scratch sapphire due to its hardness).
