  1. OK ... after Jumbies post and Neberkanezzars posting of the SC line .. i checked out their web site and they have some really good looking hides ... anyone have feedback on their quality of leather? they are not cheap .. not really expensive either .... but how is the hides? i really like the "look" and colour of the tanning .... thanks Jumbie and Nezz.. Lanikai
  2. Jumbie ... i think you opened my eye's to something i have been missing ... the vintage "rugged " look is what i have been missing in the straps ... i think i would sacrifice comfort (like everyone else i imagine) for the right look ... your choice of semantics is what did it ... the MP and GeF are more refined as far as finish goes ... is the Strap culture in the US or in Europe? asking for shipping purposes.. i think i may give your idea a try.. the more i look at the SC strap the more i think it fits some of my needs. thanks for the convincing words.. Lani
  3. No problem .... remember though that the TC leather is top grade and will darken with age, there is a Figlio Tan on the same page that is darker on special for 77 usd ... i have found that the good quality leather comes from Mario Paci and GeF ,... also the edges on the MP and GeF are finished better ... but that's just my opinion. .. the Strap Culture leather dosen't look all that good even if the colour is ... but i may be totally wrong ... anyway good hunting
  4. Jumbie, check out Elliot's daily specials he has a Toscana tan soft italian leather strap that i am ordering ... usd 55.00 ... it was on his friday special but it is still on his site .. it has a vintage look to it.. good luck Lani
  5. something is up with that ... it is not available now ..RE: something about the cyclops and crystal... so you may have hit on something
  6. last month i was told that the maker of the 199 and 092 wanted to do the 252 next but the people that handle the movement where not cooperating ... i guess the dealer with the intitial J stepped in and took care of business .. that is a gooooddd looooking watch ... i was just debating with myself ... i should just stop buying reps and get at least one genuine .. but after being in the jewelry business both wholesale and retail in the past i cannot see paying retail for anything that has soo many middle buyers .. so i will stick with the reps for now.
  7. that's good news .. at least things are headed in the right direction huh.
  8. i am probably the last 2 know but i will post anyway .. from very reliable source .. PAM 252 N POLE ... coming in the next 2 months w/large font Like i said everyone is probably aware of this already..
  9. congagualtions !!!!!!!! was the end result as good as the anticipation ???? .. bet you can't buy just one Live strong and wear your PAM WELL......
  10. I'm with you CT, with the reps i buy i could have gotten a gen 89, ... but then i'd be afraid to wear it ... lol ... actually i have one coming in Monday ... then i will oxidize it just by using an old plating machine .. i use the chemical that i prep the nikel with once i strip the chromium before you gold plate .. the trick is i have to use a negative charge through the anode and a cleaning solution with the charge to remove all the oil on the metal that collects from handling with hands first .. i've done 2 TI cases ... don't need to remove the movement... i will post pics once i'm finished ... the first one i did came out really great but i had to re-do it twice... that's when i remembered about the oils your fingers give off .. that will make the oxidizing splotty .. it has to be totally free of fingerprints and residue ....the look is inbetween light ti and PVD.... med gray looking like pewter, i'll post pics once it's done ...i was actually talking about the GMT with blue dial and ss case or ss case with black dial ... hope someone can come up with the date wheel for these.. thanks.. Lani
  11. Has anyone gotten the 088 or 089 and wished they got the other? pictures are one thing but i am drawn to the blue dial .. i think beccause it is different but the black dial for lack of a better word "traditional" looks good and is what i am used to seeing on a PAM DIAL ... feedback please .. thanks Lani
  12. Thanks .. but i think I'll take it to my watch smith ... he has the reg. machine and cost is really low... thanks though Lani
  13. Recently.. (last week) i got a PAM 199 it has been running slow... i wore it for 48 hours straight and it is still running about 5 minutes slow per 24 hours... is this something that can be regulated? it is the Asian Auto 7750 thanks, Lanikai
  14. thank you ...sssufer ; wheaton ... mahalo for all your work ...WOW ... invaluble information ... that was alot of time involved !!!!!!!!!!!!!
  15. I have a bentley GT ...and it wears differently the GT is thicker and i wear it with a bracelet .. the 47 mm fiddy is thinner and flatter ... i've had one since the russian movements (same one on the RWG a long time ago sold in thailand for 35 usd... and it still runs great and i put it through the grind at work 24-7, i start my business at 1:30 in the morning and sometimes i am next to the ocean ... very dark ... i have gotten so used to the 47mm being so easily visible because every morning my workers have a deadline to meet .. So for me it is not only how it looks but functionality ... i sleep with a 47 mm super lume militare marina .. because when the alarm rings at 12 am i hit the snooze .. so having the "big" dial that glows in the dark really is a life saver at times .. everyone is right though ... beware of the addictive kharma of the PANERAI...
  16. LOOOKKKIINNNG GGGOOOOODDDDD .... can't beat the OFMP's ... i'm getting a strap fetish to go along with my watch fetish ... my straps now out number my watches 3 to 1 ... good to know everyone else is the same ...
  17. whatever makes you feel good about it and gives you joy wearing it ... my buddy has a 6" wrist and he wears the 47mm PAMS,.. he wears it well too.. i guess it's whatever makes you feel comfortable ... I try too wear watches that make me feel good wearing them .. not what other people think ...(at least that's what i tell myself) ..LOL .... what ever turns you on ... Reps. sometimes are like some women .. good from far but far from good.
  18. Since the Dealers are no longer listed on the board for reasons that i will not venture into ... try this site ... for a little more $ you can at least get a watch that .... well, let's just say that ... you ... i can't find the words to be unoffensive ... so just check out the site...perfectclones88.com ...PLEASE
  19. is this a genuine or a rep and what site is this on? the link must be encrypted .. cannot access it the maker of the rep. ... 194 claims no TI case is coming out ??? am i in the dark with this. or are you saying because it is coming out in gen. it will sooner or later be made in rep. ???
  20. Well for the sake of a good debate .. maybe they are the purist... reality is what you percieve it to be .. it would be pretty boring if everyone had the same viewpoint ... as for jumping from subject to suject i was trying to make a point over personal preferences not the items in question .. archibald, sometimes peoples habits trancend into their hobbies .. and if someone only wants to have or wear 44 mm or bigger watches then that's their right .. granted they may be missing out on a whole world of time pieces but that is thier perogative as is yours in thinking the way you do ... i look forward to reading more of your threads .. the board is very eclectic and that is a good thing ...
  21. As opposed to? it may have been that my semantics were not phrased correctly .. after really being mezmerized by the Panerais, when i put on other makes it just feels very strange to not have a Panerai on the wrist , even smaller sizes, even a rep., .... as i said alot of things that i collect, i enjoy just viewing them when i'm home and smoking a good cigar or drawing on my pipes (tobacco) ..lol ....if i came on too strong i offer my humble apologies ... i enjoy history .. obviously my knowledge of watch parts is not as indepth as most of the RWG members ... i don't have to explain what satisfaction we all have with these reps .... watchsmiths are a different culture from most "mechanics" i worked in Seattle at Mayer Brothers, watch parts department when i was working my way through school ... too bad i was not into these watches back then ... i would have taken more interest in Horology .. anyway ... i guess the old saying if you own 1 pipe you are a smoker if you own 2 you are a collector .. maybe same with watches.. so i like the history behind what ever i collect ... i know this is a watch forum .. but for example .. look up cohiba .. it is a brand of cigar from an island south of Miami and see what history you come up with ... same with watches, i sometimes get into the hisory behind a certain watch ... so peace and live and let live. Lanikai
  22. looks great.... u must be proud since u did the work yourself .. i got the same fiddy from EL .. and first the stem was not right the CG was too loose .. then the crystal exploded... does anyone know the reason for this .. it was not hit on anything .. it just popped ... then the movement came loose .. it has gone back to repair ... not to EL ... twice so far .. now i know who to send my watches to i feel a little better. the last 4 watches i got had multiple problems 1 ..the ugraded submersible had no thread in the lugs just a big hole ... luck of the draw i guess.
  23. thanks for the lead sssufer lanikai
  24. thanks Kruzer, i thought maybe DSN's lume at times may be too cartoonish in colour but i may be totally wrong..
