I tried a red and orange marker .. although I thought it was the right shade... it was too opaque so I went the Nanuq route with acrylic paint .. now I think it may be too orange.. oh well.. it beats not having any colour in the bezel markings.. I used a permanent sharpie marker for the black and rubbed off the excess with my thumb and good ole fashion spit... .... here are the results.. mind you .. you cannot see any orange outside the numerals with the naked eye.. and I think I'll leave it imperfect the orange as well as the black... in spots.. to match the rest of the vintage look.. I took this with a 40 second or so exposure for lack of light used a reading lamp on this shot.. gotta get this on a ss bracelet though.. AC/Lani

Well.. got the the bezel all done.. the black looks good.. the reddish orange is too opaque.. I'll give the enamel a go.. my 300nt looks reddish.. then under strong light looks dark orange.. I'll give "scarlet" a try.. the orange enamel from the craft store looks toooo bright orange..

yupers.. no love hea... . . if they only knew..

Good stuff.. regardless it could be a rock from Mars.. but whatever they are using is sure looking good (in the new steel).. as I noted in my review.. to me it has more chromium in the steel, thus it's brightness and sheen... whatever it is I like it for it's aesthetics.. colour wise .. I'm glad they came out with it(316f).. it sure beats the old steel they were using. for visual closeness to the gens. as I don't plan on getting these close to water except in the rain.. thanks for sharing AC/Lani

One final note on the clasp .. you may think it would be bulbous in it's girth.. not really... nicely compact for such a beast AC/Lani -

New DSSD Version ~ Perfect Clones
lanikai replied to lanikai's topic in The Two R's Watch Reviews - Lani & Ubi
Please excuse my detailed "lack" of posting the great replication of the glide lock clasp system for the DSSD.. it was not out of neglect.. I reviewed it with the V1 many months ago.. but it certainly deserves to be part of this review I will post it here and again redundantly with the initial review, then delete from this post when it warrants deleting and have it remain on the original posted review. To start the review of the glide lock clasp I would be re-missed if I did not mention the original ratcheting clasp belong to DOXA.. it was a novel idea (as stated in Doxa History) to create a clasp that wanted to create "easy use" of the Doxa dive watch by making it easy to adapt to the diameter of the wrist with or without a wet suit. As if any of you have worn a long sleeve wet suit can attest to .. you cannot put on a divers watch that is sized to your wrist over your suit. this is the Doxa "Flex buckle" clasp in a closed position Fully opened the inside view fully extended .. you could slip on the watch fully extended and simply slide the extension through the ratchets, and fasten the clasp.. easy So you know a very long time ago Doxa engineered the "Flex Bracelet", as they referred to it. But now to the DSSD "Glide Lock" clasp.. very similar in design, in that a ratcheting system was used .. but a bit more heavily armoured than the Doxa.. I'll start off by emphasizing the the length of the clasp not only for the functioning of the glide lock but as a stable balance to the weight and bulk of the watch.. again proving this to be a tool watch and not one so much for aesthetics. See how it covers practically my whole wrist.. a good base for the DSSD's bulk... without the base the watch would flop around on top of your wrist In relationship to the rest of the bracelet a good part of the bracelet is the clasp So let's get to how this beast works open the safety lock and click up the lever and you release the extension from the locking mechanism and slide the extension out of the clasp, it is fully extended in this pic. A side view of the released ratcheting system, each ratchet represents one click of adjustment.. Or to be more exact roughly 2mm per click, give or take a hundredth of a mm .. or about 8 working clicks.. open lever.. unlike the Doxa clasp the glide Lock needs to be adjusted before depressing the lever, thus locking it.. An inside view of the fully closed position, quite a bit more engineering in the clasp than meets the eye. close up of the ratchets In the fully open position on the wrist I take it on and off with the extension in the close position.. but on some day's where my wrist are bigger.. after the gym.. high sodium food day's this extension comes in handy.. it's very easy to take the DSSD off, as well as put on a view of the lettering of the clasp The entire mechanism on the Ultimate is very well made.. warning the DSSD V3 glide lock failed in it's attempt.. actually the V1 is the best out of previous versions, before the "Ultimate" But the ultimate DSSD is very well done no sharp edges and performs well One final note on the clasp .. you may think it would be bulbous in it's girth.. not really,..it's nicely compact for such a beast AC/Lani -

Rolex does not come out and state the He valve is another brands brain child but it is a part of Doxa History.. I'll be shooting for about 30 to 40 minutes.. I'll have the glide lock posted soon . -

Just an FYI.. the "glidelock" bracelet is nothing new.. in fact Rolex wasn't the first with this design.. it was designed by the same brand that Rolex got the He valve from. I'll post pics of the original mechanism on one of my vintage brands and review the glidelock on the DSSD after I get back from shopping have a good day all AC/Lani -

thank you for the tips B.......great minds.. and all that jazz the bezel colour for my 300NT is black and reddish/orange..same with my Divestar.. so what I did was use a permanent marker and coloured the numerals and ticks with black and red markers.. since the bezel numerals and lines are a little worn I did the same that you did with paint.... only I used the markers..and used my finger to rub away the over spill from the numerals and ticks, and a toothpick to get rid of the left over ink in the tracts, it came out rather nicely .. tomorrow I'll get an orange marker and go over the red..in the same manner .. hopefully this will produce the reddish/orange colour.. Doxa service dept. tells me the 1000T bracelet will fit the Searambler.. so I'm gonna call them this week and order one up.. the silver dial really need a ss bracelet to accent the dial I really like looking at the silver dial.. it is really appealing to the eye..

glad I could contribute to your search.. sheesh.. it went up $1.50 since last month... the pearl looks pretty decent.. AC/Lani

The doxa gents here are more lively than the orange fora.. fo sure hows "your" silver dial coming along P ????

I need to take some pics with the flash and compare them to these.. a flash in minimum lighting and the PVD should resemble these pics.. to replicate the lighting in each individual genuine pic is the challenge.. as the PVD reacts differently in various lighting..

Ziggy re-lumes according to oem specs.. of course if you SL a rep where the genuine calls for C1 or C3 or tritium.. it will definitely show as a rep.. AC/Lani

The Ultimate DSSD has the Glidelock.. which I did not review.. but the version in this review Here has a very good "glidelock" feature replicated to the genuine.. the V-3 was poorly done.. ironically the V1 was the best until this latest and best version.. IMO.. The clone movements (to my surprise) feel well made through the crown.. I like the feel of the gears.. unlike past Asain clones the Rolex clones in my Milgauss and Day~Date and finally my DSSD are keeping time with my genuine and service eta movement.. very nice .. as I said .. to my surprise.. my main concern is the time keeping no the aesthetics of the movement. I too thought the Milgauss was a "gimmicky" watch .. and was not attracted to it for sometime.. but I msut say .. I love mine.. the quality of the rep and the green sapphire which is AR'd and not "tinted" is superb.. instead of the blue hue it has a very strong grenn hue at different angles .. yet when in the sunlight or when your viewing the dial straight on it is very clear. some say the rep AR is better than the genuine .. and the rep has the 316F steel.. brighter than the old 316L of past reps.. looks like the genuine steel on the DSSD and the Milgauss.. here are some pics.. I have a pictorial of the Milgauss in the rollie section also. hope that helps in your decisions.. AC/Lani

@Zig.. I started colouring in the inner markings with a roller ball , I need to get a super fine art brush for the orange markers, with a loupe, it'll be like painting in between the lines.. gotta mix up the correct match for the orange a bit more red in this orange me thinks Thanks DL.. but.. the quest for the elusive 300T US Divers.... continues..
