  1. Sorry I could't post this in the correct catagory (restricted rights maybe?). As I kept wondering why the color glow of stainless steel is either blackish, bluewish or yellowish and the hardness differs a lot between replicas and genuine I did some research. It turns out that there are many different sorts of Stainless Steel.... In this respect gen Rolex uses 440 grade and reps 316... which has less carbon in it. This difference IS visible IMO when side by side.... Here's some reading for the knowledge base... On 440 http://www.azom.com/details.asp?ArticleID=1024 On 316 http://www.azom.com/details.asp?ArticleID=863 On 904L http://www.azom.com/details.asp?ArticleID=1022
  2. Aha another give away... Funny thing is that I am happy with the fact that 1995 models had this t25 dial and non-sel. Thanks for knowing.
  3. OOps forgot I started the subject a day ago... Sorry bout that. Your article description and pictures are excellent but where did you get that specific version... forget about the hand stack....
  4. Super... This is really interesting!! My pearl looks flat compared to the real ones... But you need a freak to recognize it it think .
  5. @ By-Tor - In what way does the dial give it away? @ ubiquites - What is CG, The color of the dial is very deep black and I had a friend with a genuine 2002 model with the exact deep black color. Or do you mean the markers (who are pretty brilliant at night). what do you mean with the crown 'bad's' do you have an example of the genuine. The pearl is indeed bad. Serials are there.... or are those the 'yeah you have definitely fake stuff serial numbers' I googles the ref number and only found TT blue subs... This must be the big give away.... The main question remains was there ever a model with the full text on the dial together with the lswiss T>25 stuff, lug holes and no solid end links and no 6 o'clock laser etching. In my opinion this must have been in the 90s??? Anyone know this? Cheers
  6. As the rep virus strikes I am looking RolexGMT2 Black/Red (next to my sub and Explorer2). I am very happy with ETA movements and they are well worth the money for me. So I need a 2836-2 modified. Now I do not now what to look for exept the hand stack. What are important points in GMT2 reps that distinguishes them as a rep. Job
  7. No this is not a noob gag...I got it 1 year ago over the Internet... Way to expensive via Idealwatches/Replica center (the much disputed party here). Was a dangerous and stupid Western Union tranfer and held my fingers crossed for a while... Ended up with this and was really amazed. Went to a local Rolex dealer and asked him to open it up. His first visual impression was that it was real. His instruments showed the thickness of the sapphire (like genuine), magnification (2,5X) the 28.800 beats and the right engravings. The dealer was amazed to find an ETA movemnet in it and discover its a rep. It is a daily wearer and I am very happy with it. It stays very clean. Of course I only find out about this forum just a few weeks ago... so I bought it way to expensive.... I now also have a Latest version Explorer2 from Andrew and am very glad with it too.
  8. Can anyone here tell me if this Swiss ETA rep is of any visible quality. I think it's a replica of a early 90s Rolex Sub... What looks good and what is not like the genuine...? In short: - No solid end links - Diver extension - Screws in the bracelet sink in a little bit (not flat) - Open 6 and 9 with - Swiss >25 or something instead of swiss made - No 6oclock engraved crown
  9. I pretty much a noob although I purchased an EXP2 White version latest version. It is fine ETA 2836-2 adjusted with handstack right etc) but the markers are SS instead of Black and that is a real rep give away I understood. Now I want a Black/Red GMT2 ETA 28-36-2 adjusted... but I want to know what is good and what is commonly bad about them. Maybe you all agree on who has the most accurate available. Suggestions/ tips are welcome. Thanks. PS Search didn't get me results...
  10. Wow this makes me jump from joy D44HVJ. This must be one of the first series of that watch then. The watch was given to him back then with a new 911 Turbo and the language on the date is German (MIT = mitwoch=wednesday). Porsche is German. I really did not know where to look but the story comes together with your link!!! Thanks a million. It must have been from that series... Wonder how I can contact them. They are worth some money obviously... but emotionally it is invaluable for me.
  11. Since there is a lot of watch knowledge here I have a question.... Does anybody know this automatic chrono brandless watch.... I got it in 1985 when a business connection of my father bought a brand new genuine Porsche 911 Turbo ($$$). He got the watch with the car from the dealer and hated it because it was to big. He gave it to my father who hated it because of the size and so he gave it to me.... there was no brand on there anyway. Years I have worn it and loved it especially when the movie Top Gun came out in '86 and Tom Cruise wore the exact same watch in the movie!!!!! I turned to the jeweler and had him take a close look. He told me never to get rid of it because it had a special automatic calibre he didn't know but looked like an IWC. So my expectation are that it is a Porsche Design watch with an IWC calibre. Later came an combined watch that was branded indeed and looked exactly like it. If anyone has a suggestion please let me know.... I have no tool to open it up. BTW the metal strap is broken and I can not get anything black for it. I have seen the Vintage subs with the canvas strap. Where can I get those?
  12. You know I think it looks scary real.... Big compliments for that, I don't care for a logo on a watch like this. I would wear it for it's looks. As a matter of fact I would feel really ripped of buying "the real thing" for 20X this price... ha. Super cool TTK....where can I order!!! Do you have it with the orange leather strap?
  13. Looks real the crown size is big and most reps have a too small a crown
