Help I Did A Stupid Thing...:-(
kingkitesurf replied to kingkitesurf's topic in Watch Repair & Upgrade
Actually you can't go wrong with it in IMHO. There's a few things you have to be carefull about.. - Get people like Bazz to help you - Take a good look before you start disaasembly (take pictures beforehand) - Have good screwdrivers and tweezers - Don't turn the watch upside down to remove something (I did and then had to puzzle out ho to get the parts back), better peel it of gradually - Just go ahead and do it, if you manage it's great -
OK but does anybody know where to order ETA 2836's in Europe
-
Thanks, the question remains whether it is the only broken part. Obviously something must have caused this (maybe I messed more things things up when trying to wind it by hand?). Does anybody know where to get the rubber seal?

Help I Did A Stupid Thing...:-(

Fixed it.. As a matter of fact it is quit easy but I had to remove hands and dial. With the help of Bazz and his super macro pictures it all worked out... Thanks man... This forum is great... My TWG white explorer2 is up and running again... Post pics soon... -
Guys, I have received a new Rolex rep with ETA 2836-2 that appears to have broken teeth on a wheel. I noticed this when the watch handwinding did not work... Automatic winding is dramatically slow so if you don't go about and sport continuously with the watch it will stop running in a few days. I decided to open it up and see. I notices teeth being knocked of a winding wheel... This gives a very loud click (not the regular light click) when winding by the rotor. Handwinding clicks loud and doesn't rotate the wheel. See arrows on picture: Besides the rubber tube seal was cracked. I will contact the dealer for this. But I would like to know what other possibilities are there to do (next to getting a repair covered from the dealer). 0. Fix it myself and get parts (where?) 1. Get it fixed, repairman needs to order parts and asks 60 euro for labour 2. Get a new 2836 or 2824 at ofrei 60$ 3. Get one at ebay (unknown price) 4. Other Don't tell me to go back to the dealer.... I will... But not sure if I can reach him... Please advise?

I have the same issue with the MBW I have. But in my case its a 2836. Handwinding does not work at all and the rotor clicks. It does not run anymore unless I go round with the rotor for 15 minutes. I opened the watch and saw that one wheel missed a lot of teeth. The wheel gets pushed a bit but then snaps back making this weird sound.... what to do

Luminous Material Rolex Expl2
kingkitesurf replied to kingkitesurf's topic in Watch Repair & Upgrade
Got it there is a company in Tilburg, Netherlands that supplies white Bergeon lume paste at 18 eur per 2 gram. If someone needs it look at the www.bergeon.ch website. It is not superlume... as you get with Ofrei by the way. -
Super... I found it using a toothpick I could barely see it (and I did brake the weel with my finger slightly...oops) It worked good... The watch stopped. I wound it a few strokes and it started again. Thanks for the tutorial and the excellent pics (what a macro!!!)

All is so true... I think I will buy a gen.... life is so much brighter and worthy that way... Maybe I will finally find some friends that way so I can show off how integer I am...

Pugs I messed that up... Overpushed the stem release button... and pulled the crown from its normal position... (see earlier post of the stupid mistake). So now it keeps running... and there seems to be a little reserve everytime I work on it...It starts running for a few minutes... There is really supposed to be a button and I look for that....
-
Does anybody know how I can release the mainspring on an ETA 2826. I want to work on the dial but the second hand keeps bugging me... Serious there is supposed to be a button to release the tension and make it stop for disassembly. Anyone?
-
I found ofrei to get superlume paste through the board here but does anyone know what color I need for an Rolex Explorer2 White dial and where else to get it in Europe? I have painted the hour markers black and had to got rid of the old lume paste.... since I am at it I would like to upgrade to gen supelume. And is it difficult to apply? The markers have a cup shape. Cheers

They all look nice and all look different so there must be different methods to go for... Question is eventually who is willing to share his method (I understand some of you have gone through huge aging processes themaselves mentaly as well due to the risks of messing up their beloved reps )... But if you decide to share some info here in the open or through PM I would highly appreciate it.

Does anybody in the Netherlands know repfriendly repairmen... Preferably in the area of Amsterdam?
-
I was so stupid as to release the stem out of my ETA 2836-2 with to small a pushpin (first time I did this). The push button did not come back up (and I supose it should pop back up). I now cannot put the stem back in... That was dumb. Is there a way to fix or can I throw away the movement now... It is a shame because it is the GMT adjusted version with the correct hand stack...For my White Explorer2... I was going to paint the hour markers black...

I have done it succesfully with a cup with 50%water / 50% bleach and a spoon of salt. Left it in with intervals of 15 minutes. After 3 dips it was perfect.

Who is willing to share the secret of making the hour markers on the vintage MBW sea-dweller dial look old... The silkish, moonlandscape look... I tried to post in watchrepair&upgrading but no reactions....Anybody? Please?

Palpatines beautiful aging of hour markers have inspired me to do the same with my SRSD. I am looking for advice on this vintagising job. How does one get this 'velvet moonlandscape ivory look' on the markers... You can also PM me with tips... Cheers

Yep, Knew that one... read it already plus the links in it. That is what I mean with no real instructions and tips. Mostly they are the results... Hope to get some step by step instructions

Today I will pick up my MBW SRSD. Some mods I would like to do.... And yes I would love to try to it myself... Is: - Aging markers/dial/bezel - Adjusting CG's Now I have looked over the forum...I only find generic terms and shots of results... nobody really explaines how it is done.... I would not want to mess up my new MBW... But I think it would be a super feeling to do it myself.... Let's say it creates a bond with the watch... call me crazy. So please help... - How do I get the bezel insert out - What detergent solution do you use to age the bezel insert... Or will sandpaper 1000 help to get the shine of - I found a lot of info on how to take apart the watch... so thats perfect - How do I age the markers and hands (old lume) that they get this grindy structure.... like Palpatine's. Or is this Palpatine secret... Do you also have to age the dial itself or does it stay intact to get a genuine look. Sorry for the load of questions...

Here in the Netherlands I don't think people are really that focussed on reps. I hand mine over all the time. Some people say 'Oh this is fake it's much to light' as in fact it is a little heavier than the genuine due to solid mid links. So you know they are bullshitting. Now I am proud of my reps so I say... It is a rep and not because of the reason you gave. And then I give them the details, ETA story etc... They are always impressed... actually it always turns out that they never held a real one. I love that. I love being called out.... It's always a great conversation....
