  1. Nice pics - I am glad you like the watch. If I had not had two of them, I wouldn't have let it go if you included the Penthouse Playmate. Bill
  2. Crystals don't get much flatter than modern subs and SDs - I have had a couple of hundred that beaded up just fine. Bill
  3. I gave up drinking for my 50th birthday last week. This week, I've got the nastiest flu I can recall Now, I have had a spanking. I have gone thru the list and edited my prior posts - now I am going back to bed to deal with DTs, Nausea Vomiting . . . and now a stinging butt Bill
  4. Oh. I am just beyond words. It would be different if not for the fact that he shows beautifully clear pics of every average 2836 in his inventory, but somehow neglects to show pics of this 2892? Josh, I know you read this thread - don't you think it's about time you spoke up for yourself, rather than have people who trust you make themselves look foolish. I am sad to have had to edit my prior posts. Bill
  5. Pug, maybe I'm confused - are you saying that this watch, clearly advertised as having a Swiss ETA 2892, actually has that miserable piece of [censored] movement that pics were shown of earlier? http://watchwindersworld.com/bo10005-instr...922-p-2262.html I am really hoping that isn't true. Bill
  6. Ouch . . . what can I say. OK, as far as the "synthetic sapphire" [censored] goes, I shall stand down and go sit in the back of the room. I really thought he had knocked that crap off. Mea culpa, mea culpa, mea maxima culpa. Bill
  7. I probably should address that as I missed that point altogether. If any dealer is passing off the POS pictured as a genuine ETA 2892, that's fraud -- it's completely dishonest and I would personally support a moratorium on that dealer until the ad is pulled and all watches sold like that are recalled with full credit. It may have been clear in the posts, but I missed it. Who did that to Whom? Bill
  8. EDITED Prior comments removed -- misplaced loyalty I suppose. Bill
  9. Since this is your first post, I want to warn you so you don't feel ripped off. It may take a few weeks to get your watch, but you have bought from a reliable source and you definitely will get it. The SMP is a real classic. Enjoy your watch. Bill
  10. Lord, I like this guy. That's my dream of a watch bench. Bill
  11. This forum is promising, and I would like to be the first to welcome you to it. Rep modding is challenging, rewarding and a hell of a lot of fun. Bill
  12. EDITED My original reply to this was along the lines of a somewhat scathing rebuke. Since then, I have been made aware of various things I would not have believed could be true. Therefore, I must apologize to Doc and redact my defense of the dealers and I do think there should be a specific section where dealer's [censored] claims are exposed. Knowing that the dealers do read these posts, I can only say that continuing to call mineral glass "synthetic sapphire" after we discussed this at length some time ago can no longer be explained as a language error, and calling some piece of [censored] garbage movement an ETA 2892 is outright fraud. Bill
  13. It's a "secret" I discovered quite accidentally while trying to drill CGs. If you put a watch in a rubber jawed vice and tighten it a little, the cyclops pops off. I'ver done it twice now with no damage to the cyclops or the crystal. Bill
  14. Not to mention that wonderful modded DRSD w/Stingray Band and deployment clasp I thru in as a gift! You are going to love that watch. Those stingray bands are incredible. Bill
  15. How are you supposed to remove the Cyclops on a crystal? I have a really neat trick, but I want to see if anyone else knows it. I finally found out the best way to do the lugs - I use a cobalt fluted reamer. Unlike the drill bits you buy for a couple of bucks, these are about thirty bucks each. They are tough and whip thru a lug like butter leaving a nicely finished hole. Bill
  16. I have seen them on EBay. There are some there now with bezels for $79. Bill
  17. Well, I'll be! That was a surprise. I confess, I am indeed Fifty today. That's pretty amazing - I never thought I'd live this long. Thanks for the good thoughts. Bill
  18. I just traded mine off. Nice watch, sapphire crystal, 2892 ETA movement and beautiful engraving with the black face. Bill
  19. Yep, I can see why - if they are truly 22mm in length, no way to get them in there. Bill
  20. I don't deal with Ofrei so I couldn't say, but they look the same. I just ordered a bunch more from my source. His e-mail is jeffreysmith@ec.rr.com Bill
  21. That's just it -- there is no way that I can see that they should either. I thought they would look stupid, but I wanted to wear the watch. I was very surprised to see that they look exactly the same as the watches I made myself crazy stuffing gen bars into. It isn't a freak thing either. Since that worked so well, I have done all my watches with bracelets that way. The ones I put stingray or shark bands on, I use the gen Rolex bars. There is no way to tell which of my MBWs were done before I quit fighting with gen bars, and which have the 22mm bars. Bill
  22. Some time ago, I had posted that I use 22mm springbars when I drill the lugs on a vintage Rolex if the 20mm Rolex Bars cannot be made to fit, and you cannot tell the difference in how they look. Our very own Chieftang asked for more specific information, so here goes. These are the springbars I use. Standard 20mm bars on top, below that is a 20mm Rolex bar, and below that is a 22mm Standard Spring Bar. While I have no doubt that our resident gurus have no problems getting the Rolex fat tube springbars to fit once they drill the lugs, mine don't always seem to want to cooperate - and getting those big fat tubes thru the endlinks is enough to make you crazy. I drilled the lugs on this GMT II and could not get the Rolex bars to fit no matter what I did. Since I wanted to wear the watch, I used two 22mm spring bars instead. Can you tell the difference? If you mic the lugs, they are just over 20mm wide - 20.16 seems to be a representative measurement. If you mic a standard 20mm spring bar 19.36 seems to be a representative measurement If you mic a Rolex 20mm spring bar, 19.7 seems to be representative If you mic a 22mm standard springbar, 20mm seems to be representative Just to make things more clear, I took the bracelet off again so you could see the lugs, the 22mm bar (back) and the 20mm bar front. Notice that the 22mm bar is only slightly longer, but it is significantly thicker. Once I reinstalled it, I think it looks exactly like the Rolex Bars look. Note that there are all kinds of spring bars out there so be sure and get the ones that look like this instead of the ones that seem to have little [censored]s on the ends. They install SOOOOOOOO much easier than the Rolex Bars and since they are thicker, and a little longer, they fit tight. Bill
  23. That isn't what bothers me - I can always find a way to get money to either of those guys, and if it came to it, I'd send them cash in an envelope. Nobody is higher placed on my "trust" scale. What I would like to know is why. Is this some slimeball competitor jacking with them, or some snitch for Uncle Rollie perhaps? I dunno, but we CAN figure it out. First question - any other major players had their accounts shut down?? Bill
  24. Concur . . . Gio's experience is exactly the same as mine. I found the initial statement about diligently researching the point to be interesting considering all the tests I have done with pictorial posts. Bill
