Thanks Ubi, perhaps I'm a bit confused about what V3 actually is. As I understand, the newer CPs have better sandblasting finish (and are less prone to scratches?). I thought those were called V3. I guess I'm wrong? If so, any way to identify the newer, better finished CPs?

OK, I got it.. Please, no more teasing... Beautiful watch, can only hope that it's reliable enough. Nothing left to do but pull the triger and play the waiting game.... Just one question though - Is there any visual way to recognize V3? How can I know for sure that it's not the older V2? Thanks a lot...

Obviously, it's in the eye of the beholder, but to clarify my question: Is there something special about their build quality or materials compared to other good reps? I'm interested in the chronopassion as my first AP, but more than 500$ is an amount that requires second thought for a rep.

Tony is supposed to be a very reliable dealer. However, I can't reach him lately, and I'm waiting for a watch from him, so at the moment, I would look at other places.

I didn't hear anything from Tony for about 3 weeks. He used to answer e-mails in 24 hours, but I'm waiting for a watch (288K), and didn't get any reply to e-mails for over a week now.

It's really too bad there aren't any good RO chrono reps.. IMO, they are much nicer than the ROOs. I really want them, but don't like that overstatement of the ROO.

That's life, you never know what to expect. I'm sure things would turn up for the best, as they usually do. About the collection, don't worry about it, it's about the quality and not the quantity anyway...

The only difference between that and a gen are the lume dots. Otherwise, it's as good as a gen. Now, think how much you can get for that, and if the lume dots fix is worth the price...

I have a list of my own trusted dealers, and when I want a watch I get it from the dealer that is the cheapest for that watch. All of them provide great service: Tony from asian7750.com (usually my first choice) Reg aka Narikaa (usually keeps cheap, great bang for the buck stuff) Lay from replicamake.com Mary from watch-international.com watcheden.com Andrew from TT and until not long ago Josh from PT, but I didn't care much for his attitude to QC pics, especially due to his high prices. Other people have other trusted dealers. I stick to those I know and learned to trust.

I didn't care much about watches up to 2-3 years ago. When I finally decided to get a watch, I was going to get a Citizen or a Seiko for ~200$, but then figured why not pay less and get a simple rep... I got a cheap POrikaa for 100$. At that time, I thought: "Hey, I just saved 100$ and got a better watch...". Obviously, I couldn't be more wrong than that. I got sucked into this world, and since than bought watches for more than 4K$...

If I'll ever see the need to pass it off as a gen, trust me, I could pull it off. I won more than one bet with my friends about pulling off things much harder than that. Can't explain exactly, I just have the look of someone out of Fortune magazine. If I had 1K$ for every time I heard that, I would probably be there by now.... Having said that, I'm not looking for 1:1 (there aren't any true 1:1 reps anyway), but I'm looking for a tourbi rep that would be a copy of a tourbi gen. The closest I found was an AP. There are many visible differences, but at least you can see they tried to copy a tourbi, and didn't just add a tourbi to a non-tourbi design. Now I have to decide if it's worth the 700$....

I've just seen some videos of those movements. It's very very cool, I just wish that there was a tourbi rep out there that isn't totally fantasy...

I was looking at some working tourbillon reps, espicially reps of VC, JLC or A. Lange Sohne. I don't really care about accuracy for those, it's not like I'm going to bump into someone that would be able to spot the rep, I just love that design. However, those reps aren't cheap. They start at 500$ and can go upto 1200$ in extreme cases, and I never saw them mentioned around here. Has anyone ever bought one of these? Is the movement reliable at all? Is there any visual (not functional) difference between them and a faux but moving tourbillon? Would appreciate any input on the subject.

Never seen a good quality rep. The thing is, most gens are a bit disappointing IMO. They don't feel expensive.. I bought a gen Waterman instead. Cheaper than most Mont Blancs, but feels much better to me.

First of all, let me say that I have no idea what really happened to him, and can only hope that nothing tragic. However, mind you, that the concept watch could be a great scam for someone to retire from a questionable and an illegal profession. Sometimes we forget, that despite the great service and nice attitude of dealers and makers towards us, that they (and some will claim us also) are criminals. These guys make a living by stealing intellectual property, and making counterfeits, probably abusing cheap labour. There are great people in the industry, no doubt about it. Many people here are amongst the friendliest people I've ever encountered, but we always have to be careful, and act with some suspicion.

Thanks a lot.. Just to understand, are the fat markers of the v3 easy to spot at real life situations, or are they more of the loupe stuff? To me it seems that the Trevor v5 is better since those flaws are harder to tell than really fat markers on the dial. Am I wrong?

Hey, I know my way around Omega and Breitling reps. Can spot the flaws pretty easily, and tell a good from a bad rep. When it comes to Rolex, the nitpicking seems to be a bit tighter, and after a lot of searching, I still couldn't find what are the flaws compared to a gen in the ultimate DSSD version. Could someone point them out, or give me a link to a review that mentions them? Thanks a lot.

It's actually quite a common scam these days. You buy a rep watch (with or without a box) and a gen. You put the gen in the rep box (or sell it without the box), and then sell the rep with gen box and papers. Anytime you buy a gen at the bay, or forum boards, you might end getting a rep. BTW, I have both rep and gen boxes, and the rep is quite good. You can tell the difference if you know what to look for (like in rep watches), but most people that own a gen will pass it as gen box and papers.
