  1. Today .. it's very wet out there
  2. This watch now looks exactly like the Jos (PC) model as it was originally released. I wonder why they are not offering you the latest updated dial. This watch is available in aged dial and bright white dial.
  3. It used to look like a train wreck to me but I've come to like it. Enjoy it!
  4. a cell phone in a safe has to scream at the top of it's antenna lungs to try and reach the cell tower. the battery would die a quick death.
  5. 21j is a term used to describe (normally) the chinese copies of Japanese Miyota company watch movements. They are good workhorse movements, as inexpensive Chinese copies go, but they use an indirect drive mechanism for the seconds hand and thus there is famously a bit of stutter in the sweep. (since you're an engineer, I'll say it's play in the gear train) The feel during winding is rough .. but again the common a21j 2836 and 4836 are the best kind of cheap China movement.
  6. I don't mind helping new posters. Most of my post count was accumulated trying to help some 1st post'r with finding the Dealers area or warning them against the ripoff site they are asking about. Besides, I like to see pictures of watches; I bet the dealers have received quite a few sales from lurkers gawking at someone's QC photos, then heading to the web site to place an impulse order.
  7. Who lets their 20 year old son and his 19 year old girlfriend borrow a half million dollar exotic sports car, might I ask?
  8. The basic waterproof nature of any watch depends on it's design. Is it a replica of a waterproof watch, to begin with? For instance, a Daytona replica with screw down chrono pushers is theoretically far more waterproof than a replica of a non-divers watch, even tho it's a chronograph. The bottom line, tho, is that any replica watch you buy will have almost no quality checks at the factory. The waterproofing gaskets could be completely missing from the watch you receive. No one checks.
  9. Welcome to the forums! Enjoy your new hobby
  10. Your Joined is 2007. That means you have been here long enough to remember when they were secretly selling clone ETA movements to the Forum at Swiss prices, before the cat was let out of the bag by Chris @ Eurotimez. Now .. ask your question again, and I will give my answer more plainly.
  11. I can not see the pics, since tapatalk is not behaving. If they have been sitting around unused for a couple of years then they are probably bone dry inside. This may be a stupid question but did you wind them 20 turns by the crown and then see what happens, or are you moving them a bit and expecting them to auto-wind? If they need a bit of oil then you are looking at less than 100 each for common service and less than 200 each for chronograph service (7750 movements) Edit: I can now see they are manual wind pams .. They are dry and need service.
  12. It can be a complimentary or derogatory term ... If you mean someone obsesses over minutiae in excess or simply has supernatural knowledge of a range of models.
  13. BK is a member here and the most well known "as new" modder. See his section "BKs Watch Garage" for photos of his available "as new" modded watches.
  14. I was wondering about that as well .. heh .. either the executive or his secretary was very drunk that day in August.
  15. This was last year, but Katt diagnosed, repaired, regulated, and return-shipped my Seagull ETA clone for less then 90 bux. your costs may vary wildly from mine.
  16. I was thinking the same thing .. a newb misunderstanding how a watch works.
  17. I didnt mean to insult, but you listed a litany of faults on it, and I just assumed
  18. If a canal st sub makes you happy @35, then the $48 noobmariners must make you pass out with joy. i should get 2 ....
  19. There are a few good "forum trusted" watchsmiths in North America. For simple ETA servicing, you should drop The Katt a note, and I'd expect a week to ten days turn-around unless he's gotten a lt busier recently. As for how much it would cost, it's never wise to guess how much someone else will charge you but a lot less than $100 shipping included is a safe bet. gkloner@gmail.com is the address you want to use. note: the katt is not a Forum vendor on RWG. He is over on RWI.
  20. Any trusted forum merchant can supply the newest 42mm planet ocean for you. Just look in the dealers' area of the forum.
  21. Some people need to draw their identity from their possessions. They have to wear a Gen because if they did not, they would be less of a person. Attack the Gen, and attack the person.
  22. The thing about having trusted forum dealers is that you are less likely to be lied to. If they say it's Swiss, then the only way you'll get a china clone is by accident. I'm not saying it will not happen, I'm saying it won't happen on purpose. If a forum trusted dealer started ripping off the membership, they would not be a trusted dealer very long, no ?
  23. Hehe guard your wallet!! Before you know it, you will be up to a dozen replicas.
  24. Domenico is a watch maker in the European Union , and Donerix is a strap maker in central america
  25. When they released that watch in September, it had the incorrect dial. People told Jos about the error and he had it fixed within a month or two.
