Hmmmm... Is this limited to Subs only?
For me, my personal list-
1) MBW Vintage 1665
2) MBW Vintage 1680
3) DW 6263/5
4)
Would that last one even count?

anyone know what mods are done to the gen IST 7750 movement?
Y-
The 7922 in the GST Chronograph (genuine) has a new gear train assembly, barrel, mainspring and balance.

...I had my 22 b'day, a couple of beers with friends and so...
Happy be-lated birthday!

G-
Please share some details on this one! I like it!!
-
Haven't been able to take this one off since I finished it...

Could the swiss movement even be dropped in because of the day wheel? Want this watch but that aspect holds me back... if the asian movement goes I want to be able to drop a better one in.
With a gen dial, I'd think this would be no problem (since the genuine uses a re-worked ETA 7750)...

Hmmm... The tube gasket looks a little small and flimsy...
Crown looks genuine from this angle. But the money shot would be the other side to see what the threads look like.

Run (don't walk) away from this one!
(yikes!)

I always get a kick out of seeing the 2824 inside of these Tudors...
-
The boxes (wood and outer box shown) looks to be from an A series.
I'd be very careful in this transaction.
-
Perhaps davidsen?

Prices for the 3646 are coming up close to 6 figure territory... So, for a Trittico collection, it's a fair price. But factor in the extra dials, and it's quite a nice 'wow' package...

Ashamed? Never... In fact, I find myself wearing my reps more than my gens.
No one ever seems to notice what's on my wrist. And, all of my friends and co-workers know that I build a lot of what I have, so they tend to be more fascinated about what's involved with putting a watch together, and what's currently in progress...

LOL
It never ends does it?
Never!
Since you're bored, maybe you can answer this question: can you buy aftermarket submariner dials? How about the dails with the ETA movements attached?I can buy genuine dials... But, typically don't actively search for the aftermarket ones...

Now that the El Primero Daytona is finished, I am finding myself to be a little bored. So, it looks like I had better get some new projects going, eh?
What do we have here?
Hmmmm...
Hopefully more to come soon...
Cheers,
Randy

Fitting the dial to the movement should be fine.
The question is... Will it fit the case? Hopefully the dial will either be the correct size, or slightly too large (as then it can be trimmed to fit). If it's too small, then there's not much that can be done in that situation.
Are you going to do a Val 7750 to replace the Asian 7750 as well?

Gorgeous!!

For me, vintage is my preferred choice for watches. There is just something about the acrylic crystals, matte dials and charm that comes with a vintage watch. Gives you a sense of history- Of a time when watches were meant to be used, and when form followed function (not bling or glitz). It would take a very special modern watch to get my attention... But there are a few exceptions to the rule.

Yes- DW's case is 316, if I am not mistaken. I think your pal was taking a shot in the dark.... After all, what are the probabilities of someone owning a PN in new condition, and actually wearing such an example? Or, perhaps his YM was a rep too, and he is also a member of our forum.... Hmmmmmm...
I don't believe there is a weight difference between the two, nor are they different aesthetically (i.e tone, color)- What is different are the corrosive properties and nickel content....
-
I'd like to contribute a few as well
I've got more on one of my other drives... Just need to find them...
-
BTW- All vintage Rolex watches used 316SS; The 904L wasn't used until later (mid 80's) models...
-
Hmmmmm.... Weight on these guys should be dead on for SS. The only ones that vary are the 18k ones...
What did your old colleague have on his wrist?
-
At the moment, I have this on my left wrist-
And this one on my right-

Okay,
If it's a TW Classic, you can use a straightened paperclip to insert into the lug hole to push in/compress the springbar for removal. It's pretty straight forward; however, you may want to cover the lugs with some tape prior to removal to prevent scratching, etc. (should the paperclip or springbar removal tool slip).
If you want to fit some genuine 2.0mm springbars, the lug holes will need to be drilled out to 1.3mm to accomodate the 1.2mm springbar ends...

There are no decent 5517's around... They all have the wrong dial, wrong hands, wrong caseback, etc. etc.
Best thing to do is make one. Take one MBW 1680 and add the following:
-5517 dial with proper T marking
-Yao custom MOD sword hands
-T-19 Superdome
-Genuine 5517 bezel insert
-Pre-o ring'd Triplock crown and tube
-Custom engraving on the caseback
-Fit 316 SS bars to the lugs, solder over and polish
-Replace the 2836 with a 2846
Add some wear and patina to the case, polish out and repeat for that aged worn look. Follow up with a nice G10 to finish the look.
Voila. A nice 5517
